David - a very informative couple of videos. If I can add a couple of comments. This week I picked up an old Speed Graphic that made it here to New Zealand. It obviously had not been used for 50 years and superficially looked dubious. However everything was more-or-less intact and with a bit of judicious lubrication applied sparingly (Mo, synthetic oil, silicone) sprung back to life. Despite what manuals say, things do dry out. I would suspect your sportsfinder wires may work properly if very lightly lubricated and possibly, the timing of the focal plane shutter could have been corrected by a bit of lubrication as mine was. It is somewhat surprising that both the focal plane and shutter material deteriorated so badly in your camera - usually they are pretty robust and the storage conditions must have been extreme. As regards the age of the camera, if you have an original Kodak lens on it, this gives the year - in my case, using the Kodak code "EC" makes it 1941 which ties in with other features you describe. My lens is slightly longer than normal - a No 32 Kodak Anastigmat F4.5 6 3/8 inch in an Alphax Shutter which has a self cocking option but no flash terminal and only goes to 1/100sec. It almost certainly is the original as the Kalart rangefinder couples perfectly with it. And, by the way, it takes superb pictures!

Really useful. Thankyou so much! Mine is a 44 model, has a kalart rangefinder but no viewfinder……with the standard 127mm f4.5 the results are brilliant on hp5…….would dearly love to see you making a vid on calibrating a rangefinder model and maybe a piece on lens selection…….I’m just blown away by how easy these are to use

Nice and thank you! For lenses, really any will work. You can get some affordable and suitable process or barrel lenses that take great photos but aren't in such demand due to the lack of a leaf shutter. I used some copy machine lenses on this camera and those were curious, too.

Pretty good video 3 out 5 stars. Pro-tip ; when setting up any view cameras, 1. Place camera on tripod and use an 8 inch bullet (pipe) level placed on top of the rear standard and use the tripod head to level the back horizontally. 2. Place the level on the ground glass vertically avoiding any small screws and level the ground glass vertically 3. Drop front bed by pushing struts that attach focusing rail to camera box, place level vertically on front of the lens pressing gently while avoiding contact with the front element and level the lens. If the tilt and rise are common on front standard (Both movements use the same control) 3a. Raise front standard to halfway point and lock down enough to maintain halfway rise. 3b. Place level vertically on front barrel of the lens carefully avoiding the front element and level lens. Now you are ready to compose and focus and meter (via eyeball or light meter) Rather than making 2 duplicate exposures, maybe vary the exposure by by a half stop using the aperture if you're only shooting 2 sheets of film there by increasing your chances of nailing the exposure. Personally 3 exposures 1/3 stop bracket. Random thought a 90mm lens needs 90mm of distance (nodal point to film plane) to focus at infinity and 180mm to focus at 1:1 (life-size) on the ground glass. David, thanks for taking the time to create this detailed video. Couple comments though: Would appreciate more detail on the control mechanisms for the focal plane shutter, explaining the use/relationship of the controls. Also, your camera vocabulary is sometimes imprecise. You talk about a "film back" when you are really talking about a "film holder," which fits into the film back on the camera. Minor but for newbies watching, it's best to get them speaking in accurate terms.

It is quite possible to use flashbulbs with an Anniversary with a Leaf Shutter also, via a flash solenoid & a Graflex/Graflite flashing unit! I do not know, offhand, the speeds available using certain FP bulbs-e.g.-GE#5, with the focal plane shutter; but, with a Pacemaker, only 1/500 & 1/250 sec.are available as there's only 3 curtain slits vs 4 with contacts on the curtain itself!

@@DavidHancock Oopsie! The Pacemaker FP shutter contacts are only for 1/1000& 1/250sec.! Brain fade!! Only had mine for 3 weeks& just starting this trip down the rabbit-hole!! But I've stumbled on a gizmo that lets you use an Anniversary's FP shutter with flashbulbs! A Kalart Sistogun!! This fits around the lower winding key and, when plugged into the Graflex flash case, gives the requisite 20ms.ignition lead for FP bulbs! Who knows what other mysterious gizmos roam out there!

There are tons of different models of graflex, it seems the size of the lens board could be different? How could I tell if it’s a anniversary edition of pre anniversary edition or just a normal speed graflex? I’m so confused;(

Hey David, thanks for the videos. In your first video you mentioned a replacement back for your speed graphic. I have a graflex, I'm interested in getting a replacement back and ground glass for mine. Where did you find yours?

Thank you! I found mine on eBay. Holgamods, I think, was the seller. They're available periodically, but not consistently.

It's a little flip switch on the camera's fold-out bed. I think that video 1 shows the location.

Thank you for the info, especially the link to finding out how old the camera is. I have a Graflex with a (I believe) 127mm lens. What wide angle lens would you recommend? I am also looking to changing my bellows-even though they are still good. Would you have a recommendation where I may purchase new bellows. Thanks again.

Thank you! I like a 90mm for wide lenses. The wider lenses, 55, 65, and 75mm, are VERY expensive, in general. 90mm lenses can be had relatively inexpensively, especially if they (like mine) have relatively little ability to cover movements.
