Thank you! The tri-clamp solution for the drain plug is simple and perfect. A low profile adapter is 28mm including the threads. That is far better than a permanent tap hanging off the side. Cheers!

Maybe you could make something like the spray arm from the new Blichmann Breweasy Compact. It's a stainless steel tube with tiny holes along the entire length that sprays the water in different directions. When you stick it in the grain in the middle of the grain basket it allowes a lot of grain to come into contact with the recirculating water.

I don’t have a G40, but it looks like you could rotate the T piece at the bottom of the site tube so that the open end (female) could face straight down rather than out horizontally . This could then hang over the edge of the bench and allow a tap to be permanently installed facing down. It would just have to always sit near the edge of a bench!

Nice video, a tip, the G40 has a standard IEC C19 plug so you can get a 15amp C19 cord from anywhere that sells them, being in Aus i got one from Jaycar for $14 and it works a treat, $14 cheaper than the official Grainfather cord, although the one i got was only 1.5m. I just hope that Grainfather in the future releases a jacket for the G40, it could make reaching temps faster especially in 15a mode.

Good tip too, does the Jaycar cord have the wire dimensions written on it? I guess it should have? Let me know if you can what it says. Should 2.5mmx3 or something like that. Cheers!

I'm in the states, where do I get the 15 amp cord, and can I get an adapter to go into a 30 amp 14-30? Or would I be better off buying a new outlet?

Great videos on the G40. Thank you! Could you measure and/or tell me the diameter of the grain basket? Can’t find the measurements online.

Let me check. 412mm outer lip to outer lip and about 385mm inside diameter of the malt pipe. Cheers!
@stripeyjoe

I was wondering if you could blank off where the pipe pushes in at the top and use the 1/2 connection at the top of the valve instead, stick a cam lock on and use a whirlpool arm directly.
@HomeBrewNetwork

Yes you could, but the lid has no hole for recircing, so you’d have to leave the lid off, of course that will work but you’re losing heat. Cheers!

Could you get your strike water temp up quicker by setting it to boil and then punching it to 70 when it reaches say 68? cheers.
@HomeBrewNetwork
2 жыл бұрын
Well, I see where you’re coming from, but punching it to 70 at 68, would be exactly the same time and power used. It was full 100% power all the way to 68 anyway. Cheers VIC!

I love my G40's power but being I'm in the states I have the maximum power output. It actually heats faster than my roller mill crushes my malt when I'm doing a whiskey mash. I just couldn't be happier with the G40 overall. I put it on a roller plant stand platform too so's I don't have to lift it to move it around.

Hi. How’s the new sparge pipe working. Thinking of doing something similar. Is a normal plastic t piece from Bunnings ok heat wise or would SS be better?
@HomeBrewNetwork

It's good, I like it. I've used the bunnings parts in the past, but I always try and get stainless in the end. Just make sure its heat rated up 80c or so. Cheers!

Silly question; Just about to flip my G40 over to 15A (now that ive got the circuit installed), will I need to adjust/scale my recipes or the equipment profile in the grainfather app?

Maybe just boil off, but it won't be that much different . Should be quicker to boil so maybe a touch less evaporation during the heating. Cheers

@@HomeBrewNetwork that's interesting, if grain father were cheaping out they would use 1mm for the 10A cable as it can carry 10A but they have used 1.5 which (by the book) can carry 16A. NOT recommended of course because as soon as it's in the sun or insulated it's derated to 12A (for v75, V90 is 17A). 2.5mm is 20/16/22A respectively. It's great we have the option, Good job grainfather 👍

That’s also a huger volume boiling than your first wort, it won’t look as vigorous when full. I’m assuming you’re 220-240 volts? I put a Blichmann 220 coil in my keg, a dedicated, new 220 circuit in my kitchen, it’s a real beast, I think it’s faster than propane was..(in US..)
@HomeBrewNetwork

You have more amps in your regular 110 (15amp I think), then we have in our 240 (10amp) that's why in Australia we need a 15amp set up, 10 amp works but is struggling. It's all about the amps... Cheers!

@@HomeBrewNetwork yes..an electrician charged me quite a bit for the new outlet, but I think here it’s a 20 amp circuit. 30 amp circuits are for hot tubs, jacuzzi’s etc..the copper wires in the new 20 amp line are quite large..!
