I work at a small theatre which is part of a bigger chain, and despite playing trailers for Gran Turismo our location didn’t end up playing the film. I didn’t even know the film had released until a few days ago. However, the director of the film Neil Blomkamp decided to pay a visit to our theatre and schedule a private screening of his film during his stay in our town. He ended up inviting a few of us employees who had just finished our shifts to watch the movie with him, and I’m definitely glad he did. It‘s a solid underdog story with fast cars and emotional scenes, and having the opportunity to experience it with the man who created the film made it all the more special.

Right? Now can we please get a really great adaptation of Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, or Tekken? There have been a few that were ok, but none of them really got it, and it would be so painfully easy. Just fight. That's all. Talk less, fight more. Now that they saw that cinema as such isn't dead and there is a new high coming where it finally pays off again to take in the experience (spiderverse, super mario, puss in boots... all of those turned out to be suprisingly good) maybe they're interested in watching more cinema- movies again in general and GT could benefit from this momentum since the reviews are overwhelmingly positive so far...

As a GT and Motorsport fan, it was definitely better than I expected it to be - video games are at best a mixed bag when adapted to film. They took some Hollywood license with changing some of Jann's story and even some of the big events in the movie and tracks were morphed or borrowed from elsewhere for the sake of the narrative. Kaz had a nice cameo as well which will be a nice moment for eagle eyed fans - might have been good to see some of the online racing community like Super GT or Jimmy Broadbent featured (perhaps they could have been participating in the virtual races or something). My only criticism of the film is they missed a chance to hit those nostalgia vibes with some of the music from the games. Would have been special to hear 'Just a day' or something played on the big screen with cinema sound!

No preachy political messages, no girlbosses, no tearing down of male characters, no over-use of crap CGI (it was used sparingly in just the right moments), just a good wholesome story that genuinely got me in the feels. My heart started racing at some of the tense moments, I laughed at the jokes and the final conversation with the dad just before the final race legitimately made me tear up (being a father myself I could totally relate to the situation). @@Dar1usz I think you ignore how licences goes... You dont just put any cars you want in your movie. thats why in some racing games there are almost no damages to cars, cause the manufacturers dont allow it in their licence. There are rules and limitations my guy. Beside, the story wasnt mainly about the race, but the journey to get there. It wasnt a racing movie but more of a drama how a gamer became racing car driver. And yeah hes car had nitro, you think they were going to be replaying a real life racing car event? its a movie and these guys are actors drivers experts. And yeah it was nissan cars cause the guy whose story is based on was actually driving with nissan. So getting a licence from nissan with their cars was basically easier. Its all about licences.
