NGL, André Morell performance made me a interested in Tiberius and his reign prior to Capri- his stoic approach to Tiberius was just brilliant. Didnt really care for the post capri depiction by George Bakers performance in IClaudius (post Capri) - The Cesars is so great. I prefer it over IClaudius but adore IClaudius too.

I feel like I, Claudius is the historical fiction version of the same story. The 'What if literally every rumor Suetonius wrote down is true' but it's great in its own way. 10/10 camp. The Caesars is so much better grounded

André Morell really does a great job bringing Tiberius to life and showing us his stone-cold stoicism while still allowing him to subtly emote and then later have him break down in the sternest way he can while letting us know the inner turmoil and anguish he is going through.

Emperor Tiberius was a highly embittered man because of the waves of catastrophe that had beset his reign. However, Tiberius was no fool as some could ever surmise. Because he could either be generous according to the level of friendship to his subject and also be implacable to the same subject when the Roman ustice did so require of him. No matter how much the emperor was.

Funny how they don't mention that Tiberius had Julia, hsi wife & Augustus' daughter beaten & starved after he became emperor. And who else but he would have Agrippa killed. They really painted Tiberius in a exempiery light that is a little too high on the pedestal to believe. He also had Germanicus' & Agrippina's sons killed (except for Caligula). The truth is somewhere in the middle; he's neither a marble statue nor a complete degenerate. Interesting series though. I think Freddie Jones is killing it.

Those murders took place out of political necessity. Leaving Julia alive was as dangerous as it cpuld get - and Agrippa too, even though it's not clear whether Tiberius gave the order or not. Beside, this series shows the emperor's most torbid actions later on, so while it's true the portrait is sympathetic, I wouldn't say he's depicted like a statue.

@@melissakrauss1266 No one knows for sure, but the Tiberius described to us by the historians rather than by entertainment was a man who knew how to let his enemies take care of one another, while he always appeared to be sitting from on high saying: “that’s not what I wanted at all.” Tiberius allowed the party of Sejanus to remove the party of Germanicus/Agrippina - and then when he realized the nobility wouldn’t abide Sejanus as guardian over Caligula and Gemellus, he raised up Macro to remove the party of Sejanus. He was definitely shrewd and complicated.
