A few of the towables one being a GD had several inched of tongue movement. It was crazy to watch the camper box move up and down while the tongue stayed steady.

Frame Flex is not just an issue for Grand Design. My 2013 Montana has the same flex! It's applicable to trailer frame manufactured by Lippert.
@glengronewold2274
20 сағат бұрын
This is true. In your time frame Keystone had some frame issues with a few of their products. And they have the same issues on some Montanas still today of the same nature. KZ did also on their toy haulers later in the decade. Lippert frames seem to always but the bottom line catalyst. The manufacturer gets to decide on how to approach the fix for their products.
@GDRVMajorIssues
16 сағат бұрын
@@glengronewold2274 Actually, to better clarify for you, the RV assembly companies spec out the frame via their structural engineers, not Lippert. Now Lippert does make suggestions on these frames but you have companies like Grand Design/Winnebago that do not follow those suggestion (sort of like TSB 24-001) and at least I can say from my research and conversations with sources, Grand Design will use different floor plans for frames that were supposedly designed for one or two floor plans. When Grand Design orders thinner (less than 3/16" I-beams - fact) and lighter frames that is on them, not Lippert. I'm not trying to defend Lippert here as we know welds could/should be improved or use more robotics but sorry, this is on Grand Design all the way! And by the way, Grand Designs repairs are causing quite few customers to return anywhere from 2-5 times because of poor repairs that break again. They are trying to repair compromised frames and their repairs are just not working effectively with customer returning multiple times.

Class action lawsuits against RV manufacturers need to happen to the point where these RV manufacturers loose massively and get a wake-up call and fix their designs, processes, and customer service approach. They also need to implement at least an ISO 9001 quality/business management system.

What needs to happen is that plaintiffs need stop settling with the RV companies and take it all the way to trial. There, plaintiffs don't have to sign NDAs and the judge or jury need to award very large amounts of money to where they will feel it. Once it goes into settlement then companies like Grand Design get to keep it quiet like they did during the Gorecki vs. Grand Design lawsuit, that was supposed to be a class action lawsuit instead. He signed an NDA, got his settlement, and the rest of the class was left hanging. Ask me how I know!

I have never been a fan of Grand Design--their problems are well-deserved as they should have 1) actually engineered their products, and 2) engineered them to at least the standards of their marketing department's claims--but this is just adding to the nonsense.

@@GDRVMajorIssues I am well aware, but that substance does not underlie this report or investor-recovery filing. The points that Jason made in the video about it are exactly correct. It’s not a minimizing of GD’s or the industry’s issues, but only pointing out that this approach isn’t going to get those who have actually suffered the losses from those issues any kind of recovery, nor will it stop the losses of future customers in the process. The only real answer here is firm regulatory action that the dealers association is unable to avoid, no matter how much they invest in their political lobbying and contributions instead of in engineering and quality manufacturing.

The RV USA industry is at a critical juncture as hundreds of thousands purchased new and used RVs for the first time durning the pandemic and reality of how poorly USA RVs are built and serviced quickly came to the forefront! The RV industry’s self regulating board has legislators and special interest PACs in their organization. Thus, Bills that have been proposed to require massive improvements in laws that require the RV industry to significantly improve safety, quality control and consumer rights such as enhanced Lemmon laws never get passed or even out of legislators committees. Politicians chase the money at the expense of the consumer.

My parents have a Grand Design (or poor design) RV. No frame issues yet, but nearly everything else has had issues. All of the issues started happening just out of warranty of course. The power awning is dead. I have had to troubleshoot and replace several electrical outlets. The RV is a hot mess.

And before someone says these are minor issues, the outlet issues I found could have resulted in a fire which could be dangerous to the occupants. A bad frame means you can't tow it, a bad electrical outlet could mean you wake up to your RV on fire. Grand Design makes bad RVs. I will never own one.

How else do you think this will get their attention then? Does shorting their stock affect you? Then why worry about it and focus on the story behind why their stock is getting shorted. The reason! Yes, there is possible class actions but for the investors, not us as the consumers. That is all that has happened and even that still needs plaintiffs before it can be filed as a class action in a court of law. What else do you think is going to wake these RV companies up? Do you expect people to just sit back and stay complacent while they lose thousands of dollars and their valuable time? Just give this some thought.

So the man ultimately responsible for all these poorly built Grand Design RVs, to include all the frame failure is now in charge of ALL towable RVs throughout the entire Winnebago/Grand Design line. C'mon, it doesn't get much better than this, right? I almost forgot, the guy that Winnebago sent over to run all the production for Grand Design left after 10 days. Not to mix up the grand design pot too much, G D extended their frame warranty from 3 years to 5. Marketing ploy or giving customers a little peace of mind? Lots of you tube videos on this subject from reputable bloggers, like big truck big RV, Bishes R V Nerd and more. From my research on the frame issue, it seems that the frame issue is mostly on big toy boxes that are Easly overloaded. I have been repairing trailers for 46 years. Toy box owners always load up the storage compartment under the bed area with tools, helmets, BBQ, propane tanks batteries ETC. Exceeding to pin box rating. Then they off road the trailer, and guess what, frame issue. Should G D over build the frame on toy boxes to compensate? I think, yes. My G D fifth wheel is not a toy box. (2021 32 MKS). I weighed the trailer loaded and weighed the pin box weight. All weights are below G D specs. I feel confident that my trailer will make it long past the warranty period on the frame. Mike

When GDRV started to deal with this issue, they started weighing 100% of the RVs that came into their service center. Many of them were significantly overweight. So the word got out and owners started unloading their rigs before taking them to the service center.

@@ZonaJimDo you also include the RVs like the Solitude 390rk (with only two axles) that are GVWR overweight when they come off the factory floor? Do you also include the under developed frames for an almost 46' 5th wheel toy hauler (like my Momentum 395ms)? See we haven't even gotten into all that yet. Let's talk about the I-beams being less than 3/16' (to be exact, 0.188") for a 5th wheel toy hauler. I just love all these armchair quarterbacks who haven't done their research. It is almost embarrassing...for them! Actually, I instructed many of our owners to unload everything out of their GD RVs and weigh it at the Cat Scales (with no truck connected or on the scales) down the road from the Grand Design Customer Service Center so they could see the true dry weight compared to the so-called DOT weight stickers THEY put on these RVs. They are lying about the weights of many of these RVs and then try to use being overweight as a way to get out of someone's warranty.
