This was a very good episode. No excessive drama, just building a wonderful home for their family. Willingness to adapt and change was fantastic.

This couple did a terrific job with a very limited budget. But we saw here something we almost always see with this series: couples who would rather go far over budget than downsize. This house is 300 m2 or about 3200 ft2 for just one family of four; they could easily have reduced it to, say, 230 m2 or 2500 ft2. Insulated properly with the savings, thereby reducing their ongoing utility expenses, they could have stayed within budget.

It’s obvious that they aren’t building what most would like. But as someone that has designed and built his own house, they’ve done a marvelous job in controlling costs, but also listening to those with expertise.

Very nice - apart from the common lack these days of a stair rail. It just needs one slight wobble of the knee to send someone pitching over to a broken leg. I like how their initial determination to have the ground floor uninsulated and the whole interior industrially rough changed as time went on.

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Grand as, beautiful, comfortable and a family home that has all the neccesary comfort that exudes warmth literally and figuratively. Good stuff. Thank goodness I didn't comment at the point where there was discussions about no underfloor heating or insulation because I was about to make comments about installing an outhouse and nevermind with a fire or even appliances. That they could cook like they're in a relatively wealthy but incredibly spartan home by cooking over a charcoal fire as the daughter makes unleavened bread and boiled rice. Which now leaves me wondering if such a change of concept has also lead to changes in their cooking and eating habits because it seems to me they've embarked on an adventure.

NASA did not spend vast sums developing the so-called "space pen." They began development of a pen, but abandoned it due to the expense. The Fisher Space Pen used today was developed by a private businessman in the U.S., who spent his own money developing the pen as a patriotic gesture. After inventing the pen, he convinced NASA to try it and subsequently began selling them to the space program. They also sell them to other peaceful space programs. Pencils were a hazard, and thus abandoned because the graphite dust and potential broken points posed a hazard to electronics, and the wood is flammable.

With 100's of bloody awful windmills sitting off the coast I doubt one house makes much difference in terms of seaside aesthetics already ruined and actually the cladding is not unsightly at all. The pebble dash houses are not exactly a picture perfect postcard - are they? Posh - I think not. the owner is a woodworker... carpenter? Give him a few years and the place will look great - add a decent garden and they've got a winner.

Paul C. Fisher and his company, the Fisher Pen Company, reportedly invested $1 million to create what is now commonly known as the space pen. None of this investment money came from NASA's coffers--the agency only became involved after the pen was dreamed into existence. Additionally when the graphite from the pencil broke, it lodged between technical components in the craft,. So No, NASA did not spend millions of dollars developing the space pen.

The story about the ballpoint pen/pencil is not true. Pencils are not used in space stations because graphite is conductive, and the idea of conductive dust getting into switches is why even the Russians don't use them up there. I just hope their simple sloping roof design doesn't have similar unexpected consequences :)
