Olga was born in 1882 as the youngest child and daughter to Tsar Alexander III of Russia and Empress Maria Feodorovna (Princess Dagmar of Denmark), which made her the younger sister of Russia's last Tsar - Tsar Nicholas II.
The family is said to have been very close during her upbringing, despite living under constant threats of assasination. When Olga was just six years old the whole family was in a train crash. The crash caused the roof of their carriage to collapse and Alexander III lifted it up in order to free some of his family members and staff members. Olga however had been thrown out of the carriage during the crash together with her nanny but both of them were unharmed. The imperial family suffered only some bruises but 21 staff members lost their lives.
In 1901, at the age of 19, Olga married Duke Peter Alexandrovich of Oldenburg. It was an unhappy marriage and they divorced in 1916, whereupon Olga married Colonel Kulikovsky later that same year. Olga and the Colonel had known and been close to each other for 13 years prior to their marriage. The couple later had two sons together.
Olga was also very close to her brother Tsar Nicholas II and his children.
During WW1 Olga worked as a nurse, but later had to flee Russia due to the revolution in which some of her distant family members and her older brother with family were murdered. Her destination was Denmark where she, her husband and her sons bought a farm with various of animals. They also grew their own vegetables. Witnesses say that Olga seemed happy away from court life, and that she coped with her greif by painting a lot. However the war soon became a cause for her and her family to move from Denmark to Canada in fear of being handed over to the Russian government. In Canada Olga lived a good life and she was happy as long as she didn't have to perform any royal duties, which she occationally did. She thought royal duties were stiff and too formal for her liking.
Olga was also the one family member who witnessed against one of the "Anastasia imposters" in court.
On November 21st 1960 Olga slipped into a coma and died three days later, on the 24th. At the time of her death Olga was 78 years old.
