Not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I guess that proves the " Hall " is bullshit. This was one of the greatest 3 piece bands of their time. Speaking of time, their timing was spot on. Great lyrics and instrumentals. This Band, and an 8 track tape player, kept us sane while out at Sea... 60 - 73.

Grand Funk Railroad was a perfect name in so many ways. Don's drumming was high-powered and always had the effect of the classic steam railroad train engines that made the wheels sound so syncopated. Mel's bass was at the most lowest that a bass could be to physically be felt by the human ear and body and without seeming distorted. Mark's guitar playing was always high-energy output. They all worked very well together to create a heavy rock sound.

I was 18 when I met Mark, Don and Mel after a show in Charleston SC along with my band mates and my mom! They came down from the dressing room and treated mom as they would their own and talked to us about music, gear and technique as If they had grown up with us.

Probably the first rock song I ever herd or knew. I was around 9. Gran Funk, Steppenwolf, And Creedence Clearwater Revival we’re big right around this time. Then came Zep and The Who! A Epic time in my life and my first introduction to rock. I was 9 and would follow along on a tennis racket and pretend I could play. I couldn’t afford a real guitar till I was 14. 😂

What an outstanding video of him doing his iconic version of this tune...playing that Parker guitar and his "golden voice!" As a huge GFR fan...I saw them in 1970 on tour with Bloodrock...at Bill Graham's Winterland Ballroom in S.F. Mark was around 22 yrs. old and I was 17. I remember his solo shown here @ 4:18...Mark had his amps lined up like steps going up and while beginning this solo...walked up in amps/steps to the highest amp while playing...with all the spotlights on him...doing this solo...about 8 or 9 ft. off the floor. He continued with this solo on top of the highest amp. Then @ 5:07 (shown here) jumped down from his perch and continued his playing...while swinging his arm (helicopter style) and prancing across the stage...sending everyone into a frenzy. BTW...I was 20 ft. from the stage and with my 3 friends...we were all on acid! That was one of the best concerts in my life. Mark played his famous green Messenger back in those days. My ears rang for 3 weeks after that show! lol

THIS IS THAT JAM FROM GRAND FUNK THAT GETS ME IN A FRAME OF MIND THAT SHUTS ALL ELSE OUT, SOME AWESOME BASS, UNMATCHED LEAD GUITAR AND SERIOUS DRUMS AND LYRICS. THIS JAM IS STILL HELD IN "HIGH" REGARD NEARLY 50YRS. LATER AND IS MUCH REQUESTED BY MANY WHO RAN WITH ME THOSE MANY YEARS AGO (EARLY 70'S) AS A TEENAGER (18) WHO DON'T HAVE THIS IN THEIR ARCHIVES OR MAYBE WORN OUT BY EXCESSIVE PLAY TIME ON THOSE VINYL LP'S. THANKFULLY MY VINYL, CASETTE TAPE, CD AND DIGITAL FORMAT ARE ALL INTACT. THIS JAM WILL FOREVER BE MY FAVORITE BY GRAND FUNK ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE MANY MORE WHICH ARE CLASSIC AND ICONS WHICH ALSO GET MUCH PLAY TIME BY ME. "THE FUNK" STILL RULES. THEY GET MY VOTE FOR THE HALL OF FAME. OH TO GET BACK TO THOSE TIMES!!!!!

These guys sold how million records, how many million tickets, sold out Shea Stadium how much faster than The Beatles? All on a 1967(?) Messenger aluminum neck guitar with masking tape over the holes. That guitar should be the second most famous guitar in rock n' roll behind Jimi's left-handed Fender but Mark was known for his vocals.
