(Fun fact: I am also a classical pianist, and you should check my music here: @pardonmypiano ) I hope my piano teacher will never discover my simulation haha...

Thank you for the earthquake simulation videos 🙂 Being myself a musician (harpsichordist and fortepianist in particular), I'd just observe that one normally keeps (or should keep) the instrument's lid closed. I live in Naples, in the South of Italy: in 1980 this town (and a region as vast as Belgium) was hit by a 7.0 earthquake (about 1 min 40 sec long), and many small towns and villages were utterly obliterated. Interesting enough, both the Conservatoires of the towns of Avellino and Potenza collapsed, but almost all the grand pianos were rescued from the debris and were usable after a restoration. So the advice is: keep the lid closed if the instrument is not used, especially if you live in a seismic zone ;-) !!

Well, it looks as if a grand piano is a reasonably good place under which to take cover up to Mercalli 10. It might need to be retuned after a somewhat lower level

And AWAY from that glass partition! The piano was fine until the partition fell on it. Even that brace that holds up the piano top did its job until the more intense earthquakes. Whoever made tbose pianos could put this sim in their ads to show the piano's sturdiness

Wow! That was realistic! I live 15 minutes away from a nuclear power plant, so if there was a strong earthquake here in southern Pennsylvania, which would be extremely rare, we'd be in deep trouble. I also think it's cool that the EAS was on, and that, too, was realistic. Keep up the great work! 😊

That grand piano is going to need a lot more than a tuning! Certainly no way to get your Rachmaninoff. EqS, please assure me that no pianos were harmed in making this simulation. My friend, thank you for the humor, but don't give up your music, entirely; after all, that's what introduced me to your channels, when the subscriber numbers were near their beginnings.

the true stages of earthquake intensity at a piano concert 1.: some fat guy in the audience has taken his seat 2.: staff is slamming the doors after a very late person 3.: Do they have special sensurround effects in the building to make you feel the music? 4.: playing Beethoven 5.: playing normal Tchaikovski 6.: playing Wagner 7.: playing Tchaikovski's "1812" with artificial cannon sound 8.: playing "1812" realisticly with guns 9.: playing "1812" with guns using live ammo 10.: Kick these heavy metal freaks out. 11.: Russian Wagner musicians at work. 12.: Switch to open air concerts.

Interesting choice for a radio broadcast. Very realistic with the sounds of the rumble and the items falling. Takes me back to the Bay Area growing up when we had a lot of quakes. Speaking of that, would be nice to see you do one for the Hayward Fault and/or Calaveras Fault especially since it is heavily urbanized for pretty much its entire length.

I wonder how other types of pianos would hold up. I have a really old upright piano that's been in my family for at least a century. It would probably collapse at a lower intensity quake.

Honestly, I was hoping the piano would hop around a little bit more. Have you ever played Super Mario 64 where in Big Boo's Haunt there is the "Mad Piano"? Thar be nightmare fuel!
