Great video and list I've somehow not seen before 🙂 Almost the same picks as you, though I have a soft spot for the, as you say, underrated Lola T70, so I'd put that up to 2nd. I'd say the T70 is the best handling car that isn't the Porsche (though corner exits can be easy to wheelspin and lose control) and while it doesn't have the top end speed of the Ferrari it's close enough to keep up anywhere other than Le Mans or Daytona The Chaparral 2F is nonsensically fast (especially in the Extra mod) but it's terrible to drive when pushing for fast times (same goes for its Can-Am cousin the 2E), and when cruising the lack of gears makes it feel sluggish everywhere The Alfa in the Extra Mod probably would be 1st or 2nd, again, huge grip and it's just fun to scream a V8 to 10,000+rpm. I've not driven the Extra cars outside of the Porsche, 2F and Alfa though so maybe the Fords might have redeemed themselves 😀

The title confused me a bit at first; I generally regard these cars as Prototypes. A GT would be a Shelby Ford Daytona Coupe or Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Competizione. The Mark IV doesn't just have top end; it pulls/accelerates all the way through. The Chaparrals seem to have even more torque, speaking of which, both Chaparrals have only three gears, not just the 2D. There is a smattering of other cars that I wish came with this mod; these would be in the smaller displacement category: Porsche 907 LH, Alfa Romeo T33/2, Ferrari 206 S, Matra MS630, and Alpine Renault A210. Those, along with the Circuito Stradale del Mugello, would make the 1967 Sportscars mod about as complete as it could be.

Yeah true, but the mod is referred as GPLGT, hence I also use that abbreviation. I think a SC-X is in the making, an expansion of the original mod. I expect lower classes and maybe extra tracks, but only the modders know what are included ;)

Well, yes on the Alfa, a working wing on the 2F (as you demonstrated), and new physics overall for the cars. Maybe your rankings of the cars could use a revisit since the rework. As to reality for the cars, of the 8 big events, the 2F was on the front row for 6, with Poles at Monza, Spa, and Nurburgring, and Fast Laps at Daytona, Sebring, Spa, and Nurburgring. And it won Brands Hatch. So it was pretty good on top speed and also fairly good in handling. The 330 P3/4/330 P4/412 P was alright on top speed (came 1-2-3 at Daytona and 1-2 at Monza), though outdone by the 7.0-liter Fords and likely the Chaparrals as well. But its handling capability was sufficient to give it incredible balance, good enough for Fast Laps in both practice and the race at the Targa Florio. And yes, the base 910 was in the 2.0-liter class, with Porsche kind of flaunting things by putting in that 2.2-liter flat 8, originally derived from the 804 F1 car, I presume. (Having seen it in person, I'm not sure how they shoehorned Gurney into that 1.5-liter machine.) So you'd expect the Porsche to be very light compared to the big cars. It was the start of development for the Alfa, so it's harder to judge just based on results, though it looked to be pretty quick, and even got a few Top 6 (points) finishes in 1967. I very much concur with your assessment on the Fords and their handling, due to their weight. That said, Ford France SA got a GT40 Mk.I home 5th at the Targa (Henri Greder and Jean-Michel Giorgi), and Ford France snagged a 4th at Mugello with a Mk.IIB of all things (Jo Schlesser and Guy Ligier). So I at least think I know who I'd want doing the setups on my GT40 if I had one.

Hi Yannick, had the same top three, allthough for me, the Lola and Mirage finished both on P3. Lola for handling and Mirage for livery. Porsche is the most fun car to drive!!

For some reason, I really love the Chaparral cars. The 2D, even though it only has 3 gears, is a big favorite of mine. It's the handling with the insane speed it can pull is one of the reasons why I love the car. Also, it's like a micro GT40, but with extra power poured into it. Also, if the Chapparal 2D had more than 3 gears, what would it's ranking be for you?

They're all good cars, but the "nice noisy" Ferrari sounds like a sewing machine next to that big-block Chevy.

I think the thing about the GT40 is it was built with durability and speed as the primary focus, they work very well at Le Mans, but not many other tracks. Couldn't agree more about the Porsche, the handling of those 60’s Porsche prototypes was amazing. I’ve driven the 908 in Assetto Corsa a lot and that too completely outclases the GT40 and 330 P4 on technical circuits.

Very very VERY late answer to this comment, but I have to agree with you on the Porsche statement. Driving the 908 and the modded 906 in AC has got to be the best mid 60s prototype driving experience you can get anywhere. Sure, it might not pack as much of a punch compared to the GT40s and the 330s, but it sure does handle amazingly and has better brakes compared to those cars.

Hey we are waiting for the comparative of SC Extra! With the movable wing the Chaparral totally deserves the 1st place in my opinion!

I don't feel it is quite worth making another one of these of it only has changed physics and just one additional car (which is really fun to drive). The Chaparral 2F has become extremely OP with the addition of a working wing, which I personally do not really like that much.

@@GrandPrixYannick well you have your reasons. BTW I can't agree with you for the 2F. It's an hell of fun to drive in GPL. And it has not become unrealisticaly too much competitive with the updated mod, because in the '67 WSC season it dominated the pole position basically EVERYWHERE: 2nd at Daytona (1'55"36), 2nd at Sebring (2'50"6), 1st at Monza (2'53"8), 1st at Spa (3'35"6), 1st at the Ring (8'31"9), 2nd at Le Mans (3'24"7), and 3rd - but winner of the race - (3'37"4). And if it wasn't for the unrelaiable transmission, that used to broke every time after having dominated half of the race, it could have won the championship in a blink of an eye, belive me.... so i think that the GPL simulation of the Chap is really accurate. It isn't overpowered, because IT WAS overpowered ;)
@GrandPrixYannick

It is true it was overpowered in real life. That is WHY I rather stray from it! I'd rather drive a small (Porsche, Alfa) or medium engined (Lola, Ferrari, Mirage) car which are very variable on how they perform on each track, and is the reason why I consider the GT/SC mod to be one of my favourite mods. But the 2F is a killjoy, because it is literally at least a second faster on every track. While honestly the 'DRS-tool' it has is an epic tool to have in GPL, it feels like cheating in races. A very fast car =/= more fun. Same with the McLaren M8F, for example. Dominant car, but I feel it is difficult to cope with. I rather take the Shadow MkII. Aside that, I feel the new mod is also somewhat unrealistic overall because of their laptimes, as it is a couple of seconds faster. The biggest issue I have with it is that I drive lap times -with the 2F- almost equal or even FASTER than I ever have with the F1 1967 cars!! I'm not claiming to be a guru on the actual pace of the cars, but I feel there is absolutely no way that IRL the GT cars do get this close to them. Take Brands Hatch: Pole of GT: 1:36.6. F1 ROC '67: 1:33.2 and '68 (no wings yet, closer to GPL 67 F1 performance): 1:30.0 GPL PBs: GT WR: 1:31.5 (and that is the GT MOD, not the SC!), 67: 1:29.9. The GT/SC mod make huge leaps compared to their real life counter-part, so I'm just not really buying it. That's my only real complaint about it, though, otherwise I think it is great.

@@GrandPrixYannick well yes, i must say the same about the competivity of the Chap against the other cars, because if you want to win a race in a track with fast corners even if a little twisty (Brands, the Glen, Monza, the good ol' Spa, but also Riverside or Osterreichring) or you choose the 2F or else there's no choice but to accept to get a 3rd place behind the "high wings" - it would be possible to compete with them with the AI difficulty at 80%, but i always choose 100% because i like the competition and duels in race more then just winning - in the old mod, since they could not simulate the Chap movable wing, it was a little less faster on the straights and with less downforce on the corners, making it an high performance car, but at the same level of a P4, a T70 or (in fast tracks) a GT Mk. II-B or IV. Secondly, i must say that the best laps that i have personally done with the 2F or seen on YT in the various tracks are very very close if compared to the actual pratice laps clocked by the Chap in the 1967 races. I use to put the goal times for my fast lap taking it directly from the database of the sportcars races, that you can find at this link: www.racingsportscars.com/type/photo/Chaparral/2F.html That's my main data source for the great endurance races of the 60s and 70s... you should totally check it out and use it for your GPL sessions! :)
