I bought a grandfather clock brass face/ dial on eBay It has engraved on the dial that it was made by a Robert Alexander in Leith, Edinburgh possibly in the late 18th century. As it had a local history and interest to me I investigated its authenticity and concluded it was original and not a copy. I decided to build a working timepiece from it and this video shows its creation from inspiration through design, build and finishing. I bought every component part on eBay including the used Wilkes Router and all tools and materials shopping for lowest price. I have only modest skills so tried to get as many pre finished pieces as possible. This is not a cabinet makers dream build but I was pleased with the result overall. Final stage shows it built and enjoying its return to a working instrument probably keeping better time than it ever has :-)
