Patrick Michael Karnahan, of the Black Irish Band, heard this melody in a dream, the morning of June 30th, 2013. That day, humming the melody of this tone poem, still fresh in his mind, he sung the melody into a voice recorder so he would not forget it. During the day, Patrick would be sitting at a desk, going over his 'Basic 32' Fire Refresher subjects, with the United States Forest Service. Around 4:30pm, the class went out to do a Fire Shelter practice, and then class was over....
That night he would learn, on the evening news, of the tragic event that took place, miles away in Yarnell Hill, Arizonia. Patrick believes that this song came from beyond, from a spirit place. He would record this song during late in the summer of 2013, with his fellow band mates from the Black Irish Band. The very day of the recording session, the 2013 RIM FIRE would breakout on his forest patrol unit. Patrick was on the 'Rim Fire' for two months serving as a wildland firefighter/ patrol, on the North end of the fire.
The song- "Granite Mountain Farewell" is featured on the Black Irish Band's "Wildland Firefighting Songs". David Rainwater performs on fiddle in the recording, with Patrick on guitar.
This is the only song that Patrick has ever heard in a dream..... This song melody is in honor of the fallen heroes, to their lasting memory. #wildlandfirefighter #wildlandfirefighting #calfire #calfirefirefighters #wildlandfirefighters, #wildlandfirefighter #fire #wildfire #firefighter #fireseason #firefighters #firefighting #wildland #wildlandfirefighting #wildfires #forestfire #forestfires #calfire #hotshots #viewsfromwork #wildlandfirefighters #fireman #helitack #forest #nature #waterax #jagahutankitabersama #wildfireseason #california #wateraxpump #wemovewater #firepump #portablepump #wildlandpump
