Video tutorial of the Granny Square Triangular Shawlette Project. A simple crochet pattern and makes for a great gift idea.
Level: Beginner
Yarn: 2 skeins (5 oz each) of Caron(TM) Simply Soft Ombre Worsted Weight (Medium 4) Yarn in Sunset Autumn colorway
Crochet hook: US size I/9 (5.25 mm)
Additional items: tapestry needle to weave in yarn tails.
Abbreviations: ch=chain; dc=double crochet
Pattern:
Make a slip knot and then ch4.
Round 1: Make 2 dc in the first ch. Then ch3 and turn your work.
Round 2: Make 2 dc into the top of first dc from previous round. Skip top of next dc and insert hook into top of last dc from previous round and make 3 dc. Then ch3 and turn your work.
Round 3: Make 2 dc into the top of first dc from previous round, *[iInsert hook into gap between the sets of 3 dcs from previous round and make 3 dc]*, then, insert hook into top of last dc from previous round and make 3 dc. Then ch3 and turn your work.
Repeat Round 3 until work measures desired size (note: when repeating Round 3, repeat the part between the * symbols for all the gaps until the set of last 3 docs from previous round). When done, pull yarn through the loop, leave a 4-6 inch tail and cut it, and then weave in the yarn tails.
Variation: to create a more flexible shawlette, can add 1 ch in between sets of 3 dcs (as shown in video around 10 min).
Finished measurements of shawlette shown in video: 48” width at the top and 25” length along the center to tip of triangle.
