So many waterways need this chlorine treatment. You should get a sales team to make bids.

My route is in Englewood Florida and I pay $5 per 2 1/2 gallons of 10.5% liquid chlorine if one gallon is equal to 1 lb of granular then using 1 lb pouch at almost $4 a piece is much more expensive than liquid. Is it more convenient? Of course but over the course of a week and almost 100 pools, profit margins begin to slip away. Not to mention now I have to keep an eye on my CH levels so they don't get out of hand. For me I just don't see the plus side enough for using granular. I wish it were cheaper, I would consider a combination if it were.

But what about the disadvantages of granular shock such as increasing ph and changing the pool balance? I understand the granular will do the job faster with less but when you go through trying to balance the water after using granular, does it really make it cheaper? Sounds like it will still be a bigger headache when its all done.

You're correct. Adding calcium hypochlorite will also raise the CH of a pool. This guy mentions he's is in FL, where I am as well. The water hardness is 250 - 300 ppm. By using cal hypo we're adding hardness to the water. it is true that a gallon of liquid weighs more than a pound of cal hypo, but we don't have the negative side effects with liquid. In the long run, liquid is cheaper. Some of what he says is true, but he's there to sell his GLB products.

Clean Pool & Spa - Ultimate Swimming Pool Care Guide I know you're obviously for liquid chlorine but they both do the job and have its advantages and disadvantages . I know people who use both without any long term problems

This guy didn’t mention that if you only use shock and tablets, eventually the stabilizer (Cyanuric acid or “CYA”) will accumulate and significantly reduce chlorine effectiveness to the point where you have to drain part of your pool to reduce CYA. Also, it’s not accurate that half your liquid chlorine will burn off as long as you have the recommended amount of CYA (30-50ppm). Google “Cyanuric acid chlorine relationship” to see for yourself.

@@ldzep44 yup, I switched to liquid chlorine for that very reason. I found that after a month and a half of using dichlor the cynuric acid was above normal and needed to add more dichlor more frequently as the chlorine was always low.
