i did pickup a set of these for my strat, hearing them first hand you can hear a difference and that's great.. but the biggest improvement in option is "comfort" an improvement in tone and comfort to play are huge in my books, definitely would recommend them too anybody.

The bent steel design from early 1950s has a tiny range of travel for the saddle screws. that was what Fender used 60 years ago because it was simple and cheap to make. But for adjustments and stability, a solid saddle beats bent steel ones in most every way. The saddles of the mid-1950s were all they had because no one else made them. But now we have materials and designs and choices.

Thanks Darrell for this Demo. I was curious about this set of saddles for one of my Strats. I do hear a difference in sound. These saddles sound great clean but like one post said, the original saddles have more "bite" when distorted. These saddles are completely made of their proprietary PTFE (Tusq nut) material. Graph Tech does make Strat & Tele modern style saddles that are made of steel but have GraphTech's PTFE (the slipperiest substance on Earth) embedded in each string slot. I have heard they are much better. Thank's again! You are one of my go-to guys since I started modding and building my own guitars. You got me hooked on Obsidian wiring for all my Strats as well as the Hipshot open gear Locking Tuners. Great to see your channel growing and wish you continued success! I highly recommend watching Darrell's channel. He provides great demo's, tone comparisons, build and modding tips as well as lessons. His reviews are honest, well rounded and he does not push any particular brand. He is always trying new products, techniques and lets the viewer decide if it works for them. He is an outstanding, versatile player so there is something for everyone who plays and or builds/mods guitars.

These TUSQ only saddles I agree are almost as good just a little less treble bit at the top, However, are much better than the String Saver Steel/Teflon Saddles, you'll find a midrange boost and very little treble really didnt like that....who wants more midrange? Im am going to bye the Tusq only nut again and saddles, they are great. Esp for my fender its to trebly so perfect.

(Sound comparison starts at 1:44) There's definitely more distinction between each string with the Graphtech... great separation of individual strings, and clarity with the graphtech... don't think there's really any question, the guitar sounds far more "strat-like" with the graphtech saddles, with better overtones, and a much clearer voice in every example you played... having heard the improvements with the graphtech, I wouldn't go back to the fender saddles again, ever... a very noticeable improvement.... I've got stainless steel saddles on my strat, but you've definitely got me considering picking up a set of graphtech and see if they can improve the sound a bit more...

Gérard Angé Yes the tusq saddles are still on the strat. I think the highs do sound a little more refined than the bent steel. They have a certain sweetness to the sound, but might not be the best choice if you want a raw and harmonically complex upper range.

Thanks for the demo. To my ears, it seems like the Tusq saddles slightly rolled off some of the high frequencies, almost like the tone knob was backed off a tiny bit, but the difference was very small. This is the opposite of what I was expecting based on the description from Graphtech's website. But in a truly blind test, I'm not 100% confident I'd notice the difference. Do you have any experience with Graphtech's String Saver saddles?

Darrell, Thank you for the very nicely produced youtube video! I have been using roller saddles on my Strat that seem to fail regularly… I have been looking for and alternative that keeps me in tune and still provide a nice round clear fat sound… I have been looking at the Tusq, and the StringSaver Saddles and also the KTS Titanium saddles. I agree with the other commentator below about the over all change in the sound with the Tusq. I also know that after time things can get even better of they can get worse… So with that said…. after three months are you still happy with the Tusq saddles? That is the real test! Thanks Again, Gerard

I could definitely hear the difference, because the Graph Tech saddles gave a much clearer, ringing tone. I think for maximum effect, you need to change the nut too. I put a Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut and saddles (both made from the black self-lubricating compound) on an Epiphone Les Paul 100, and the transformation was amazing. The tone and sustain gained so much, it almost sounds like a hollow-body when playing unamplified. WELL worth the little bit of money and time. I will do the same for my MiM Strat soon, as well.

For me, the tusq has a slightly roll-of in hights, as serveralpaperclips also stated. But this is very subtle. Also my impression was that the dynamic is a little bit better, but this can depend on playing the music in a slightly different way. The tusq is really good, but I think that claiming "it's so much better than steel!" is just stupid marketing blabla which we hear all day long from all this guitar tuning companies, guitar techs and "guitar experts" which want to make us buy their stuff, magazines and instruments. I think the last example shows very well how the Tusq has less emphasis on the high end, which is a plus for me. I never liked the spikey sharp high end on fenders, but I must consider Leo Fender's age when he invented his guitars. Most people loose sensitivity to high frequencies as they age, and probably with Leo too. That might explain his original "settings" when he tuned the pickups to his liking, which to me had too much volume on the high frequencies. The tusq has more focus on a frequency range close to the human voice, thus sounding more natural/piano-like to my ears. Thanks for the demo.

That is good for me because the door bell just rang and Fed Ex delivered my new ash sienna-burst American Standard with Shawbucker. I alread ordered a set of Graph Tech saddles but the chrome ones I want are on back order and will ship in a month. I'll have a month to use the bent steel and If I love it the way it is, I won't "fix it" and may return the saddles or hold on to them. But I have had Strats in the past and made this change and never regretted it. You're Tusq saddles did not subtract anything and they lube naturally with graphite for tremolo use and don't snag anything if you mute down there.

Hi again. I have another new Strat--a Deluxe Roadhouse MIM. It turns out that the G string comes back sharp after trem use every time. Upon looking into it, at least one expert has posted a video in which surprisingly, it is not the nut or the string tree but the bent steel saddle that the string does not slide back on to perfect pitch (unless yanked). I therefore am going for the chrome Graphtechs which have a graphite string rest on them. Just another consideration as to what makes a difference. Cheers Darrell.

hi.. you lost a little pick attack clarity with the tusq saddles. I didn't hear much difference between stock zinc saddles and tusq though. The stock bridge on my 93 anniversary strat has the offset zinc saddles and I can play as aggressive as I want to with no string breakage or tuning issues but if I did, I'd probably go with brass saddles which wouldn't be any brighter but might produce a little more sustain. There's 2 reasons why brass is used for bells which I know I don't have to explain. Stamped steel are uncomfortable, to me and I wouldn't switch to them simply for that reason but it doesn't mean that I'm going to change what I have on my Knoffler or my 62 reissue with Callahan hardware. With my 93 I overcame the darker tone by switching to Elixer nanoweb strings which also greatly improved tuning stability because of the coating with less nut wear and improved tap harmonics. My take on nut material is a different story. I'm good with stock nuts as long as they're working. Why? Open notes. I don't play very many of them. Thank you very much Sir. You helped.

To my ears, the graph tech saddles have more definition and somehow remove some of those unpleasant harmonics. The bent steel ones retain more character and bite though. Gonna be a tough choice ;)

Steel saddles are better in tone but Tsuq saddles are designed for better tuning stability not for tone. Thanks for the video anyway.

I started with eyes shut, put on my Superlux HD668B headphone and listen to both with the intention of not going to review which is which that I was listening to and to this end I can't say one is better than the other, both is nice sounding so in other words., no differences worthy to talk about like comparing different brands of strings.

I thought they were both good sounding. The tusq sounded a bit brighter and better defined single notes. I think they could sound identical by adjusting the EQ settings, with the possible exception of the clarity. IMHO

Tone is the same, with weaker attack.. (graphtec saddles), I'd say if you play a lot of shows live, go for the tusq saddles, or if you're a studio/bedroom player stay with originals..

Metal saddled have more high frequency content, IMO. The tusq saddles sound very close to the standard graphtech.

Very difficult to trust lap top speakers to draw any sensible conclusion from this. As an accomplished player yourself it would be very helpful if you gave your impressions of what you heard and felt as a player??

Good point. Try to connect your phone to a decent set of speakers or some sound isolating headphones/earphones. I noticed a little more brightness in the fenders & more warmth in the others but adding to your point, I'm also aware that KZitem compresses video & audio. I'm also curious to know his opinion on the differences.

These will be perfect complimenting my 52/57 pickups. They're a bit bright. Tusq should calm them down a bit.

The Graphtech saddles sound clearer, and they are less mushy under overdrive and distortion.

Its all a marketing hype . Guitar players in the 60,s 70,s did not use graphite saddles nuts etc. Hendrix clapton knopfler played just as good on vintage saddles and resin nuts and there sound was as good as today . I use stainless steel bock saddles and the nut that came with guitar . What fender use now . I dont notice any diff in sound on graphite at all.

I thought tusq was for acoustics. I got solid brass roller saddles instead
