My first real concert. Only 17, small town boy in the Big City. Big fan of both SMB at the time and the Grateful Dead to this day. High as a kite lol. Needless to say, I was blown away. Changed my life utterly.

Pat, I could have posted the exact same comment as yours, word for word!! I'd also add that for me, Lesh's angular style , and full, rich tone was a revelation- one moment he'd be up on the neck, then floor you [almost literally!] with a perfectly placed low root note!! Bro, your name sounds really familiar- did you ever perform with my twin Neal?
@pjmjazz

@@brianalger4844 Totally on both accounts! My bro Mark and talk often about the unique bass playing he brought to the band! And yes, I've played with Neal on and off for 25 years! We just 2 weeks ago our band's shared the bill at the Elastic Arts! Neal and the band were killing it with his new compositions! I know Neal and I have discussed the dead before!!

Yep, this was my first show. Those boomers hit me smack in the face right at the beginning of West LA. and wow I was mesmerized for the rest of the show. We called Good Morning Little School girl because we had been listening to Two from the Vault which had just been released that summer. Had no idea they hadnt played it in decades but wow, it really happened. That was the shit. The Hes Gones, and Saint were great too. Awesome Iko. This show was way better than the second show. One of the best shows I ever saw. Gloria!!

I was sitting in a bar in Minneapolis the night before this show. It was a Dead Night were they played recently recorded shows. My friend Jes came in, said hi and asked if I was going to the shows tomorrow. I said no and he was less than happy with me. After yelling at me for a few minutes he made 3 phone calls for my tickets, my ride and my place to stay. I had no business being at this show, Jes did everything but pack my clothes. He even got me to the front row. " Smile and don't stop" he say's. It was fun for a minute but than I had to run away. Too close for comfort. Crazy times. Apparently it was very important that we get a bottle of Tequila at 3 in the morning. So the decision was made that we would hail a cab and go to the Southside and complete the mission. We sorta hit a dude who jumped in front the cab. Cab driver kept going and says don't worry about it, it happens all the time. Our cab pulled in front of a building with no signs and bars over all of the windows and the door . The two ladies, who were with me, decided that they didn't want go in. I really didn't want to get out of the cab either. My thinking was even if I get out of the store alive, the cab would be gone. Well it was actually quick and easy. When I walked in everyone stopped and didn't say a word. I picked out 3 nice firm limes and a quart of Tequila and walked past everyone in line since nothing was happening. Nobody protested, apparently too shocked too speak. Cashier never did say anything to me. I read the total and left an extra ten bucks. Thanks for the shows and the memories Jes!
