I love this band. Like most of you watching this video, I spent the better part of my youth living in the universe thay was the Grateful Dead. What an epic adventure it truly was. The shows mixed with the world that was the heads and the touring was awesome. I love you all. May the long strange trip that is our lives keep us happy and content forever.

How lovely to randomly read your letter just now. I had played The Stones version 3 times with a big smile on my face just enjoying the lovely joyus moving -on-song and then I Grateful Dead version even tho I adore Mars Hotel and played it half -to-death,,Ilove this version I discovered by accident and am enjoying listening to it as-I-write. ! Hearing it for the 1st time. I'm 65! xx xx

There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert. I saw them 13 times on the East Coast. The worst concert of theirs that I attended was in Woodstock in '69. The other 12 were superb. Then I came West and got married. I convinced my wife (Rebecca Wave -singer-songwriter) to see the Dead at Ventura Fairgrounds in '83. We brought our 2 month old (Naomi). Too tough on her ears We left during their second. That turned out to be the last time I got to see them. They were full of drugs and booze at Woodstock, but Great at Watkins Glen in 71. Previously I'd seen them in CT, little Rhody, and Taxachusetts (cities like Hartford, New Haven, Providence, Springfield and Boston.) Those were the days my friend I thought they'd never end...

Indeed, What A Long Strange Trip It's Been! Recently, I asked a friend if we would ever grow tired of listening to the Grateful Dead. "No," was the answer. And I knew it would be. And, thankfully, because of archivist such as Elizabeth Travis, the Grateful Dead community will always be able to enjoy the music of the most memorable band of our lives! God Bless The Grateful Dead!

Bobby Womack wrote it for the Valentinos, and it charted for them, but the Rolling Stones made it their first #1 hit in 1964. Now it is nearly a standard. A good number of New Orleans brass bands play it and it has been covered by lots of other musicians from Waylon Jennings to the Grateful Dead, here.

I was there the night before, July 18. It was a great show too. They were in great form, full of energy. They encored with Quinn the Eskimo, a big surprise. A lesser surprise is that so many people feel inclined to make nasty comments on Grateful Dead pages. When this song was released in 1964 it was a big hit, the first for the Stones in the "U.S.," if I remember right. It was a pretty cookin' version, and the guitar work, especially at the end, broke new ground.

On this day in 1973 {June 15th} Bobby Womack performed "It's All Over Now" on the NBC-TV program 'The Midnight Special'... Along with his sister, he was the co-composer of the song; and it was originally released in 1964 by the Valentinos, of which Bobby was a member, and their version peaked at #94 on Billboard’s Hot Top 100 chart… And also 1964 the Rolling Stones covered it, and on July 12th of that year their version peaked at #1 {for 1 week} on the United Kingdom's Singles chart, while in the U.S.A. it reached #26 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart... Sadly, Robert Dwayne Womack passed away a year ago on June 27th, 2014 at the age of 70... May he R.I.P.

Proof I was a Deadhead. I don't know if I was at this show :) I know I caught all of the '88 shows at Alpine. The night I went, in '89, it was raining hard, and half of the songs the guys sang involved rain (Looks Like Rain, "have to stand out in the pouring rain...", stuff like that). Luckily I was in the 13th row, under cover. The year before, there was a drought, and it was in the mid 90s F every day.

you sure do get your monies worth with the dead no scrimping on any song or tune no short order here, plenty of meaty goodness just tap your foot and nod your head and just look around see the crowd breath their, the vibration.... be at home and chill. even if its just a video a recording of an event an evening years gone in the past. just a tiny small bit of imagination and your right there in the crowd...as nothings changed here, timeless. the greatful dead yet again raps the tuning fork that sets the human experience into vibration

I wonder if they knew at the time that it was "all over now" for them at one of the best venues to EVER see a dead show (ALpine)? Remember the rumors we would here every Spring about a return to Alpine? They would of had to leave the lots open all night to do Alpine again. Too many people and not enough places for them to go. Believe this was my 4th show. I didn't miss more than a few shows after this one though!
