They cover many genres, sometimes even in a single song. Their pool of songs is both deep and wide.

Grateful Dead came into being in 1965. Truckin' was released in 1970. They are the ultimate jam band and were known for their live performances, not for their albums. They toured for 30 years. Many, many people known as Deadheads followed the band all over the country.

According to a dictionary, Grateful Dead is a story about a traveler coming upon a dead body on the side of the road and arranges to have the body properly buried. Later in his journey the traveler encounters some trouble, and the spirit of the deceased man helps him out of the trouble. "Grateful Dead". The band's style has been described as "Americana". The song "Truckin' " is a retelling of some of the band's stories from the road. Especially the New Orleans story. Saw them about 50 times myself. There is only one Grateful Dead.

Truckin' means just moving along, nothing to do with actual trucks. There was a famous poster by the cartoonist Robert Crumb in the 60's that showed a guy taking a big stride, and it said, "Keep on Truckin' " Look it up. This song is autobiographical for the Grateful Dead, including their drug bust in New Orleans.
