Enjoy this strangely engaging video taken at the end of a flow deflector moments after it had been fixed into the Leven in Stokesley. The idea is that the flow deflectors speed up the water and encourage it to move silt and gravel through the narrowed channel. This leaves a cleaner substrate that is able to support a wider range of invertebrates. Some of the silt is dropped behind the deflectors and eventually will become colonised by marginal plants.
