It looks like the lot itself isn’t square, so he aligned the pad with the front of the grass or possibly the house. Non-rectangular lots are common on cul-de-sacs.

A pickaxe would have made short work of the trench digging and grass removal. It was one of the first hand tools I ever bought and it sees as much use as my shovel on home projects.

Thank you Dave ironically I had a pickaxe but didn’t realize it until after the trench lol we used it a little for leveling. Will know for next time!

Great video, thanks! Do you have a link to the drill bit you used to prepare the wood/ground for the rebar? Or could you make suggestions to something similar?

Hi Dave, greetings from Chile; really like your video, i'm just about to star building a shed with my dad and your content is really usefull for us right now.

Not bad. The only thing is the base will not last more than 15 or 20 years, perhaps less, depending on the amound of rain and snow in your area. I built my shed in a similar fashion back in the 90s but I had to redo the base about 12 years ago as the wood rotted out.

I have a question, I seen a lot of videos like this one and I seen that you guys add the plastic sheets to prevent weeds from growing, I hope it's not a dumb question but I noticed that nobody added a drain hole of any kind on the wooden frame to prevent it from flooding, isn't it necessary so the wood doesn't rot too soon?
@ApartmentMaintenancePro

Hey, the gravel rock here is extremely compacted, it prevents water from pooling, and drains evenly across soil the soil below the rocks. The weed barrier doesn’t affect the drainage.

It seems like the wood would trap the water inside the gravel area.. anyone test this in heavy rains?

Are you going to move in the near future because if not a concrete floor would have been a better option. Because you could bolt the shed to the concrete floor and it would be a lot more stable.

Thanks for sharing. I’m doing a shed base for an 8 x 12 shed but am only using 18” rebar. I don’t think the 4 ft rebar was really necessary as the 18” seems to work really well. Thanks again
@ApartmentMaintenancePro

Nice! Only reason I did 42” is because we have a 36” frost line where I’m at 👍
