@@mash_ruu2197 It was a rough go at first but I've gone from a high dose of thyroid med to a very low dose and I'm starting to think I might not need it anymore as it seems my Graves' "may" be going into remission. In July I decided to go full carnivore/Atkins-like diet and my Graves' started to improve to the point where my T3/4 crashed to almost zero which was the opposite to where I was. I also added in a lot of exercise - 3 days a week of weight training and 3 days of cardio. I'll have more info next week as I go for my 2 month check up and to see if the 5mg of this methimazole is lowering me too much which would indicate that I might have normal thyroid function back.

@@DracoxRPG that is, I think it might be thesam as me because I also started with a higher dose but I'm now reduced to 1 cabimazole pill a day but the problem with me is the drastic weight loss and my heartbeat 247, did your symptoms go away after you start taking a low dose? And sorry for the late reply, I wasn't in a good state of mind

@@mash_ruu2197 I've been on the meds since September 2019 so a bit over a year. As far as I can tell all my symptoms are gone but I am still on 5mg Methimazole daily but I notice that after I take it I start to get really tired and like you said, I get some strange heart rhythms. I had my blood work done today for my next check up which is the 28 of this month (December). Once I get my TSH, T3, T4 numbers I'll put them up here. No worries on the late responses but I hope you are doing better. I just put myself in the headspace that I wasn't letting this defeat me so I changed a whole lot of my life to combat this condition. It gets better. When I cut all the bread and sugar out of my diet I noticed a huge change within a couple weeks but that was me, everyone is different. Keep up the good fight!

I happened to just stumble upon your video. I also have Graves Disease. I was diagnosed when I was 20 in 2006. I was given RAI as I didn't know any better back then. You do feel alone at times and like you are the only one struggling. I wish there were support groups or something to help those with this feel like they aren't alone, but I have never found anything like that...at least in my area. Wishing you the best in your recovery! Mine has been a very long road...10 years later and still have complications from this terrible disease. Thank you for putting the information out there! :)

I just want to say thank you so much for your insight on Graves Disease, my daughter was diagnosed when she was 6 yrs old :( she is now 8 yrs old and we are having to move forward with more extensive options. My heart is saddened by this, but listening to you describe how Graves has affected you gives me so much more insight of what she is going through. As you can assume an 8 yr old can only describe things to a certain extent with her somewhat limited vocabulary. So again thank you. Hope things are going well for you now.

Thank you for sharing your story. I was diagnosed in August of 2020 with Graves’ Disease. I had the hand shaking, nausea, bulging eyes, accelerated heart rate and weight loss. My sense of smell and hearing were amplified I didn’t know that was a part of it until your story. I just thought I was becoming very sensitized to scents and sounds. I was put on meds. Started with Strumazol, then that was changed to Euthyrox and Propylthiouracil. This caused my wbc to be dangerously low. So I was told I would have to think about doing surgery or rai therapy ASAP. Non of these options were acceptable to me. So my internist after having checked my lab results stopped all meds. I will be monitored over the next year to see if my thyroid function has normalized. During this last year I have made some changes to my diet. I do hope I have a positive outcome in the end. Much success to you and your journey.

Wonderful. Thanks for sharing your experience and describing your symptoms in detail. Thank to the others that offer their comments too. For other readers out there I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease in 1991 (Australia) and have treated it with carbimazole (‘neomercazole’ brand) ever since while closely monitoring bloods now for 28 years with my long time Doctor (GP). There was no internet when I first diagnosed and much more info readily available now. The first explanation was that I will eventually fall into being underactive (hypo) and that is yet to happen - they don’t really want to discuss that because it doesn’t fit there paradigm. I have both paternal and maternal blood relatives that have NOT coped well with ‘hypo’ and so I remain happy that I have not reached it yet (more challenged yet to come, I suspect). My take on dealing with medical professionals for any reason is be an advocate for yourself (or your family/friend, if you are the carer) - I would have NOT have these skills when I was younger but age and life experiences toughen you up; get 2nd opinions from others. I am constantly frustrated at how ‘medical professional’ (GP’s and surgeons alike) strongly advocate for a particular option and really gloss over the side effects that you will need to manage regardless of the three choices available to sufferers (medication for life, removal with medication for life, RAI with medication for life, while partial removal is no longer recommended). All options need a thorough explanation so that the patients choice is an informed one. Remind yourself that a surgeon treats you ‘but once’ while the individual lives on to manage it for there entire lifetime. The professionals rarely see the longer term consequence of living with it each day, despite the multiple cases they see and ‘treat’ daily. None of the surgeons seem to check in with you years later - regardless of whether they operate or not. My GP retired 5 years ago and my new GP is clueless and defensive when I discuss the deeper detail along with my personal perspective. When he sent me to a new endo this year (2019), the endo (rudely) asked why I was ‘not managing my condition with a specialist (endo) for all these years’? My reply was I do manage it with my GP and with regular blood test and medication dose alterations along the way if ever needed. Furthermore none of the 4 endo’s I have ever seen suggested I catch up with them regularly (but I would have got a referral to them if my symptom reappeared or if I could not moderate my levels if my dose needed to change). Over the years I have had to increase up and sometimes drop down. The new endo was a STRONG advocate for RAI - it’s simple (ha!) we take you off your medication just prior, then just give you one pill! It damages some of your thyroid he said (Why don’t they say destroy it). Then he described that he had only the ONE patient that subsequently had a thyroid storm follow RAI and developed the eye disease (the rest were fine). That was his sales pitch! No thanks I politely said - I come back if my back is to the wall and I want RAI. When I left I said so should I catch up with you each year to two now or how should I change my management plan. He said just ‘keep doing what your doing (with GP) and you only need to call on me if you feel the need’. I was flabbergasted and concluded that basically if he wasn’t going to treat it his way he wasn’t interested, not even for data collection purposes (or to help others) even though I presented a very unique path than many. Like I said - frustrating! Following that, I’m now back to re-reading up on it all again from multiple sources because it pays to be your own advocate. Best of luck to those with Graves’ and to those that pass to the dark side (hypo). I hope your journey is on calm waters. Blessing too to those close to us - they get to ride the roller coaster with us but it’s not for free. 😘

+Patricia Johnson I'm so sorry to hear that!! I would definitely NOT advise going for the RAI.. There are so many bad outcomes linked to it! First of all you would have to let your body go back into the hyperthyroid state for it to work (which is bad enough) and then there are many side-effects (I mentioned some in the video) that can come with this treatment! Please consider getting the surgery instead (I had mine about 7 months ago - best decision of my life)!! I know it's scary but I really think it's worth it in the end:) All the best to you, I hope you're going to get better soon!!

Do you ever feel like you are being a bother asking your doctors for extra test? I do, I feel as though they think I am naive when I ask for extra test. I read some of your updates and I am happy to see that you are feeling better. It scares me to think I could possibly feel worse if I removed my thyroid and it is permanent.
@FranklyFranca08

+Patricia Johnson YES!! I know exactly what you mean.. but you have to think of it in the way that it is your right to get whatever test you want done! You're the opposite of naive when you take your health serious and make sure you get the best treatment possible! Just tell your doctor you'd feel much more comfortable getting those tests done now, instead of just waiting and waiting for things to get better, without doing anything.. Don't be scared to feel worse after the surgery! It might be tough for a short period of time, but in the long run you'll feel soooo much better! All the best!!

Here I am as well. We aren't alone. I've had it for over 20 years now. Had RAI and everything was fine for 20 years with no issues on 150mcgs. All of a sudden 3 months ago I became severely overmedicated on that dose. Have no idea why. I lost 32lbs. They lowered it to 100mcgs but now I'm extremely cold and having worse sleep issues. I upped it myself to 112.5mcgs just to give me a little reprieve. Still having sinus tachycardia issues though although those did get better when they lowered my dose. Still haven't gone away yet. They say it eventually will go away. Get your blood tested regularly or if you feel weird. Lesson learned. I felt out of breath a couple of months before the nightmare really started.

Thank you so much for sharing this video and your experience; you went into such detail and it was really relatable. I too suffer from Graves' and Hyperthyroidism... I was diagnosed in August 2014 after months of feeling horrendously ill. It is now September 2016 and I am awaiting a date for my thyroidectomy surgery. I felt extremely ill for months, I lost 2.5 stone in just over a week, I had my heart beat in my ears and head really loud, I lost vision in my eyes for a while. After being back and forth from the Doctors after being told I "just had a virus" I had had enough. I finally saw a Dr who took me seriously and knew what it was before I even had the blood test. My levels were more than triple what they should have been (apart from my TSH which I had none of). My heart rate was 180pm resting. My Dr said exactly the same thing as yours: "how are you even standing?" I was put on the 18 month trial of Carbimazole, and luckily I developed no side effects but I had to watch my body very closely and I had numerous emergency blood tests as on some occasions I kept getting infections and random bruising and mouth ulcers - luckily, these weren't caused by my medication. In Feb of this year all my levels were normal and they stayed that way until late April. I went completely overactive again, and because of this I was told to have either radio-iodine treatment or to have a thyroidectomy. I've opted for surgery.

Thank you for sharing this information. Knowledge is power. I have Graves disease as well, and my hormones/thyroid levels are all out of balance. When I had insurance I had a good endocrinologist and I felt better, now that I do not have health insurance, I no longer have my Endo. and I am dealing with a CNP who is relatively clueless, and doesn't seem to listen to me or care! 🤔 Needless to say, my health has drastically declined. My heart rate frequently increases, heart palpitations/ tachycardia, tremors, muscle pain and weakness, depression, , insomnia, gastrointestinal issues, dry skin, agitation and more. I have always been a very upbeat, extremely friendly person. This is not me. I'm the person who makes everyone else happy. It feels like this disease is slowing killing me, physically, spiritually and emotionally. But I am gonna keep fighting.😊I have some challenging days, but it makes me appreciate the good days even more. I will be praying for you!

I am sorry things were so hard for you, but you know you have a lot of support. In regards to feeling sick all the time, I know you mentioned that. I have an IgA Deficiency myself and there are other primary immune disorders that can make you ill often. Not to add more things to worry about, but I just thought to inform you because people with PIDD are more likely to develop autoimmune disease than the general population. Mediation and/or mindfulness is very necessary for reducing stress which has a big affect on your immune system (it does not have to be religious).

Hey and thanks for this wonderful video! I'm a 35 year old guy living in Sweden who got diagnosed Graves about 3 weeks ago. I started taking thyroidblockers right aways, just like you described and now I got this horrible rash when I started to combine with Levaxin. I'ts literally driving me crazy! I am also going for surgery as my thyroidhormon is so high that there was no reason to go for the 18 month thing. They told me right away there is no point! They haven't told me yet about all the aftermath that you are going through though... You are saying that you can't exercise? That is my greatest worry as I one of my biggest passions is roadbike racing. However all the doctors hre say I will fully recover without issues basically. I am starting to realize after reading up on the internet that there is alot of people out there that don't get the whole story from the Doctors. Thanks again for you story and I hope you feel good nowdays! Cheers! / Adrian

+cellosan Hi Adrian! Thanks for your comment:) That rash could be a sign that your liver is having some trouble.. that sometimes happens from the antithyroid drugs! Have you gotten your liver checked out lately (including blood tests)? If you haven't, that might be something to think about! I'm sure you're going to get through surgery just fine and you will fully recover, but I think it's extremly important to not rush things (like excercise) and give your body plenty of time to heal! I know it's frustrating to be so limited, but it's worth it in the long run:) Everybody is different, you might not have any of those "after-surgery-problems" I was describing.. If it happens though, just know it passes! Today I have almost fully recovered:) My heart, my liver and my metabolism are doing very well again! I sleep well and I have no moods swings:) Also I'm off betablockers and I can get back to working out! Hang in there! Sending many healing vibes! Keep me updated on your progress if you feel like it:)

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I'm living with Grave's Disease for a few years now too. Luckily we went to the Doctor right away, when I realized something is wrong with my heart. It was just beating so fast and loud, I couldn't sleep at night. I became really shaky and couldn't participate in PE lessons properly anymore (My sport grades became so bad! :D) On top of that my thyroid had become a lot bigger, so it was kind of obvious that something wasn't right with it. After being diagnosed with Graves Disease the Doctors put me on medication right away. I felt a lot better after that, but the symptoms did not go away.. So right now I'm in the process of deciding if I would rather have the radioactive therapy or a surgery. First I wanted to go with the radioactive pill because the idea of somebody cutting up my throat just really scares me. And I'm afraid of having a scar right there on my neck for everyone to see. But on the other hand I really don't want to put anything radioactive into my body.. Seeing your video really encouraged me, also because I don't know anyone personally who is going through the same thing as I am. My friends try to understand, but I'm pretty sure they don't really get it. Because it's, just as you said, not visible to the people around you. Right now I feel very scared, but I think I'm going to do the surgery anyways. So, I would be very happy, if you did a video about your experiences with the surgery :) I am glad, that I have good doctors, who know what they are doing. It must be horrible to have a doctor who doesn't have a clue, like you experienced! I hope everything turns out good with your new doctor! Lots of Greetings from Germany! Lucca

Very informative. Way more info in this video than my Dr ever gave me when I found out I had Graves. I’ve had every symptom it seems but the hardest for me was the constantly being angry and irritated even with small things. Even after RAI I feel better but not a lot.

Hi Franca, thank you for sharing your story and for the clear information you presented. I might have a problem related to hyper, my TSH is undetectable (below .01) yet my T4Is fine (1.55) but the doc wants to wait 3 months before she does more testing which I feel is too long to wait especially considering I have severe symptoms like exhaustion (have to sit down a lot) and edema. Anyways if you happen to have any thoughts on this I would appreciate picking your brain a bit. I am beginning to understand how thyroid issues involve a lot of patient advocacy by the patient herself unfortunately, as you alluded to in the beginning. Your experience is quite different from mine thus far but it never hurts to ask as you seem quite well informed. Anyways sorry for this ramble. You look very healthy and have a glow about you too if I may say! You're lucky your Mom sent you off as well as your gyno. In my case I hope something is wrong because I want my symptoms to be treatable as messed up as it sounds :( anyways, congrats on being well informed and making such a hard decision, again you look and sound great so it's a great testimony to the fact that a disease is not the end of a happy life!! That's inspiring for me so thank you!

+Natalia Galaxy That seems a little odd.. I would definitely try and wait for a bit and then get another bloodtest done. Maybe you should consider getting a complete blood count done, instead of doing just thyroid related stuff?! I totally agree with you, 3 months sounds like a long time (especially if you're not feeling well at all at the moment)! Thank you for your very sweet comment Natalia:) You totally made my day!! I wish you the very best and hope you'll get the answers you're looking for very soon! Keep me posted if you'd like to do so:) I would certainly be interested in hearing from you again!

You did a very goid job explaining this disease. I was sick for 5 years before my thyroidectomy. I tried and had a reaction to PTU & Methamazole. I was so far gone that I'm missing time. Alot of foggy memories. I just did what i was told. I saw many different docs and eventually they decided RAI was the next step. So in my state of mind i just went along with it. It didn't work and i was back to square one. At which point it was finally decided that i needed a thyroidectomy. Except i was so sick that i had trouble finding a surgeon that would take me on. They turned me down because my disease was so out of control they knew i would go into a thyroid storm. I did eventually have the surgery and a thyroid storm thankfully i had an amazing surgeon that kept me alive. Anyways the post op is a long road. I would recommend trying cytomel or another t3 in addition to synthroid. It helped me dramatically. Also for me staying on a strict schedule with my meds and avoiding certain foods keeps me more level. I was diagnosed when i was in college 12yrs ago. I hope that you've started to level out and the feelings of dispair and loss of control are a little more manageable. You're very brave to put your story out there. I wish it had been around when i was going thru this mess.

Hello just want to ask after your surgery did the doctor remove all your thyroid gland and you must take synthetic medicine to replace your thyroid? I mean for lifetime? Or just a period of time until you recovered? I hope you’ll reply. I am considering to undergo surgery because I read about RAI and my 1st doctor also told me that RAI is not 100% sure. And medication is not long-term treatment.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I have hashimotos thyroiditis that is the opposite to graves. I also do not have much quality of life as the fatigue, headaches and other little things prevent me from having it. I'm drinking eltroxin 100ug that I also think needs to be changed, have had this for 14 years now and it is a total rollercoaster so I know how you emotionally feel. It sucks! My sister was treated yesterday with iodine radiation as she has graves disease so everyone sharing seriously helps the next person going through the same. I get so frustrated when I say to someone that I'm exhausted they think I'm exaggerating! people don't realise how difficult it is to get out of bed or just brush your teeth and hair. Thank-you so much for being so detailed about your symptoms. This really helps me understand what my cat has been going through. I suspected he was hyperthyroid for a long time but the veterinarian insisted he was not. I researched it and found that middle aged cats get this. The certain herbs I've been giving him have helped but he is still losing weight, drinking lots of water and has a voracious appetite and his skin is still bad and bothers him at times. He also has PICA and has cravings for cement. He has had chronic early AM vomiting every other day for over a year....which is now much better. He also had bloody stools but Comfrey and Mullein tea took care of that in a few days! He was anemic but it seems Yellow Dock has helped a lot with that. Have you tried Ashwaganda? I'm adding that into his herbal tea along with a "Thyroid Calming" formula by Herb Pharm and a nerve sedative formula with Valerian Root and other herbs.

I have recently been diagnosed with another autoimmune disease. My whole life I haven't been able to gain weight, I'm drenched in sweat but also cold (no fever), extremely fatigued and now my resting heart rate is 130-145bpm. My TSH is the only thing that has been tested and it has always been on the low but normal range. I went to the ER the other day because my heart was racing so fast even though I wasn't moving around, doing any activity nor was I stressed. They said I have sinus tachycardia and my TSH dropped pretty significantly from a month ago, but is still in the normal range so they sent me home. I have just now had a blood draw for antibodies and T3, T4, iodine so we will see what the results are but I don't feel well at all. My Granny on my Mom's side had thyroid issues but she has passed away and I never got the chance to ask her specifically what was wrong with her thyroid

We have the same story sort of. I had Graves at 15 years old but I originally lost 70lbs before they figured it out. Had my thyroid killed. Was on 150mcgs for 20 years with no issues. All of a sudden 3 months ago I started having severe hyper symptoms. Lost 32lbs started having anxiety and panic attacks. Was told it was just anxiety but 1 month later through testing my TSH and T4 they found out I became severely overmedicated. Don't know why that happened after 20 years but it did. Now I feel hypo after they dropped my dose from 150mcgs to 100mcgs. I asked for atleast a change to 112.5mcgs and they wouldn't. They want me to suffer for 6 weeks before they move it. Most doctors have no idea how to treat hyperthyroidism or Hypo. Still can't sleep and have anxiety now that I never had before. It's been a battle the last 3 months. Hope you're doing better these days 🙏

Your video has been so helpful thank you. Why though will drs not consider how we feel and not just what bloods say. My situation was very similar to yours however I was hypo before becoming pregnant with my daughter. After I went into over drive and dropped to 7 and a half stone within 3 weeks of her birth. I just thought it was because I didn’t have time to eat properly, boy was I wrong 2 years of anti thyroid meds and a thyroidectomy in March of this year and I feel the worst I’ve ever felt. The exhaustion is unreal and they won’t up my dose yet which I find baffling as when my thyroid partially worked I was never on lower than 100mg of my thyroid replacement but now I have no thyroid it I can’t possibly be that I need more to feel human again. I feel so low, and nobody understands close to me. How can I get the drs to listen!! X

Informative video and thank you for sharing your story, however I would be careful with some of the information you present (I had Graves' disease as a teenager, I'm also a veterinarian and treatment of hyperthyroidism in cats has some similarities to humans). RAI is actually a very safe and effective treatment, I can understand a lot of people are scared by the idea of radiation but please do not put people off this option because it was not the best one for you, it is actually the gold standard of treatment for our feline friends! Remember surgery is not without potential complications too. I personally did 18 months on medication and my Graves has remained in remission since. RAI or surgery would have been terrible options for me as I would have ended up being hypothyroid and needing medication for life, however I would never try and put someone off those options if they were right for them.

Sorry for all your trouble. I have Grave's which is in remission. As I look back on my childhood and adolescence I see a lot of things with depression, anxiety and dry skin brittle nails. I don't know if that is related but after I had my son at the age of 38 I ended up with Grave 's. I lost the 40 + lbs I had gained during my pregnancy and then some and eating a lot. I didn't get the eye disease at all. I decided to do the anti thyroid meds for a year. I guess I was lucky because they started working immediately but the doc did have to lower them a month or so after because they made me too tired and my blood tests were off. I stayed it for one year. It came back after 5 yrs and I went back on the anti thyroid for 6 mos. It's been 12 yrs since my first bought of Grave's and 6 yrs since the second bought. I myself recommend the anti thyroid meds at least try them as a first treatment. I didn't want to kill or remove my thyroid because having to take thyroid meds for the rest of my Life wasn't something I wanted. Also the fact that most people end up hypo after thyroid removal scared me. So sorry no one every told you that part. Hugs and good luck to all!

Thankfully I ended up not having cancer but I had prior the radioactive treatment and after surgery they said I had hyperthyroidism and Graves for a long time. It’s not easy all the symptoms your right you kind of think it’s related to other things that’s what I was doing till one day you just really know something is just wrong. You said something that after your surgery Graves doesn’t just go away I was told it did as well. Is that true? You can still have Graves or the worry for the eyes?

Thankfully my Grave's was detected quite early and my eyes have not suffered very much! My grandmother had a lot of problems with her eyes though and once she got the surgery it stopped getting worse.. The surgery won't make your eyes less bulging but it will help in stopping them from getting worse! RAI is not a good treatment option if you have eye realted issues already! RAI can make the bulging a lot worse in some people, surgery won't ever have that effect! I know it's scary, but you're going to get through this, I promise:) I had my consultation in the beginning of July and a week later I've already had my surgery. It was very quick! But it depends a lot on what country you live in, in some places it takes longer than it does here in Switzerland.. all the best to you, sending loads of well wishes your way!!

I was diagnosed with Graves about 2 months ago. I live in Canada and the treatment options offered to me were meds, radioactive iodine or full or partial thyroid removal. My mother had Graves and her treatment options were the same - that was almost 50 years ago. Clearly, things have not changed. Like you, I don't want to do the radioactive iodine treatment. I'm on methimazole now but I'm considering the surgery. The meds have reduced some of the symptoms but my white blood cell count is now lowered. Lots to think about. Thanks for sharing.

But it passes and you'll get back to the way you felt before Grave's happened! All the best to you💕

Hey, I was diagnosed with Graves' decease about 3 years ago and I have been taking meds to get it into remission (to be expected, as you mentioned - I live in the UK) Having come off of my medication 2 months ago, my TSH levels have dropped again so my specialist has now given me the option of RI or surgery. Like you, I am opting for surgery but I wanted to ask, as well as everything else you have covered, how it has affected your menstrual cycle. I have heard that a lot of women really struggle with long and heavy periods after having a total thyroidectomy! Thank you for your videos on this subject - I have watched this one and the surgery one and feel I have gained a lot of insight into what I can expect from it. I hope you continue to feel better.

Hey there:) Thanks for your comment! I was still on the pill during my whole Graves’ journey, so I didn’t notice anything odd about my periods.. they were pretty light anyways because of the pill.. I stopped taking it about a year ago (2 years post-op) and they have gotten a bit heavier since then but I would still consider them very managable:) Wishing you all the best for surgery and a speedy recovery from it🤗

Hi do you know if we are supposed to follow any gluten free diets or anything like that? Apparently it helps those with hashimotos lower antibodies

There is absolutely no significant scientific evidence to support that (that I know of at least)! So I'm definitely not following a gluten free diet:)

I've had Graves Disease since December of 2015 and have been treated through the antithyroid drug therapy.. I recently switched my endo and they are gun-ho on me going the route of RAI. I really don't want to do that....I don't want to do anything extreme. And something that is noticeable is that when you are hyperthyroid you are much more manic and when you're hypothyroid you are much more depressed.... It's a hard choice to make but still one that has to be made :/
@NettieFIRE

Amber Monique, ‘bingo’ you’ve hit the nail on the head - if you are hypo you are more manic (me, diagnosed 1991) and if you are hypo (my Mum) you are more depressed. I couldn’t have described it better myself.

Decide on how you feel about the treatment no one can force you to do it it makes their job easier when you destroy the thyroid completely. If what you are doing has been working keep doing it.Also surgery is still an option but make sure the surgeon is very experienced with this surgery .

They have no idea how I feel. thank you for making this video. Drs never listen unless you are fortunate to find a special one. be your own advocate.

For your hypo symptoms have you looked into Natural Dessicated Thyroid? The right dose could help many of your symptoms because it provides all of the hormones your thyroid would be giving you. Selenium has been very helpful for me as well. I hope you continue to feel better and better every day.

+woebetideme Thanks for the tip! Yes I have looked into NDT but decided that it wasn't for me! I feel like the fluctuation of the T-Hormones in the pills are just too big in my opinion, I'd much rather use the synthetic thyroid hormones and have as much controll as possible over the amout I take:) I actually feel so so so much better than back when I filmed this.. I'm almost at the end of my 6 month selenium therapy and I feel like it has really improved my overall well-being! All the best to you!!

Hello @@FranklyFranca08! I hope you are feeling much better as you read my message. My teen daughter of 16 was diagnosed with GD a month ago. I completely understand your video. I watched my daughter really close and I can completely related your symptoms with hers. I wish you can send me more information about the selenium therapy please or there is a place where I can find out more info I would love to know it. Still waiting for her symptoms gets better and stabilized her hormones levels to consider surgery. The natural path is another way as well but i don’t know if my teen girl would have the strength to maintain her habits 100% clean for a long period of time and for life. We are still considering all the options. It’s is been rough time for her. Her heart was way to fast. I took her to a cardiologist to check her heart and fortunately I did it - the first Beta blocker was not working at all, when we went back to her first Endocrinologist appt after a month under medication treatment the doctor saw her heart results and agree to change her beta blocker under the cardiologist suggestion- a cardio selective choice. She is feeling better since she is taking it but obviously we don’t want she lives under medication the rest of her life. I changed her diet, no gluten, no sugar and green juices. Detoxing her system is helping her I believe. She is taking Mg, Zinc, water+ limon + Sodium Bicarbonate (Alkaline her body), Vit B12 I would like to know about the Selenium therapy. Thank you for your video. It is a great help for many around the world. Greetings from Peru 🇵🇪.

Thanks for this video. I just miscarried at 12 weeks and it turns out, I mostly likely have Graves. My constant illness was said to be Hyperemesis Gravidarum but finally they figured my thyroid was messed and it was too late. I'm now considering options - mainly RAI for fertility's sake.

Thanks for sharing your story. I have been living with Graves for the last 10 years, I was diagnosed age 19. I get what you mean about going from hyper to hypo is like being hit with a ton of bricks. The anti thyroid drugs make me so sleepy and depressed so I often don't take them. The idea of gaining weight without being able to control it freaks me out so that's another reason why I avoid taking my anti thyroids. When my graves gets to the point where I cant function then I will take a low dose of carbimizole and proplanalol. My doctors are tired of me self medicating and playing around with the dosage. The advice they are giving me now is choose Radioactive iodine or have surgical removal. I'm very reluctant to do rai or surgery as it just seems so extreme. What is the point of removal if you have to be on Thyroxine (thyroid hormone) drugs for life? My mother had rai over 25years ago and now she is on 700mg daily of thyroid hormone which has badly effected her liver. Its such a vicious cycle and it all seems like its never ending.I think you are so brave to make the decision to have surgery but perhaps your dr's should have given you better advice on what to expect afterwards. Didn't you do your own research online before surgery? Many people I have read about actually regret having surgery.I would love more updates on how you are feeling after surgery, I hear it can take quite some time to balance the hormones. Thanks again for sharing your story. I'm subscribing just incase you decide to post an update video.Good Luck xx

self medicating is NOT a good idea, I have to agree with the doctors on this one! I know it's hard but that is not the right way.. Getting the surgery was the best decision I could have ever made! I know it's scary though.. maybe do some more research and then decide what would be the best decision for you! Thyroid hormone is NOT a drug, it's just a replacement for something your body would produce naturally, so I can't imagine your mother's liver problems stemming from that at all! Yes I did loads of research, but every body reacts differently to such a big change, no one can ever tell you exactly how you're going to react to it.. I just posted an update video incase you're still interested:) I'm feeling wonderful now!! As I said surgery was definitely the way to go for me! Good luck to you too!!

I'm still selfishly dreading the op and and all the hypo symptoms that will come as a result.. I'm mainly making the decision to please my family to be honest... just hoping for the best. I've had graves so long it's hard to remember how it feels to be normal again. I'm soo happy for you though and wish you all the best for your future health and studies... I will keep you updated on my progress.... hopefully next time I will be telling you how great i feel post surgery xx

Thankyou for your video. It helps knowing there are other people who feel the same as me. I was diagnosed with graves disease 18months ago after my heart rate went to 300beats per min.. they had to defibrillate me... super scary. I have been on medication for 18 months and even with the meds its coming back so im trying to get my doctors to give me an op or rai but struggling with them. Strangly my step dad was diagnosed with graves disease when i wad 14, it took them 3 years as they couldnt find what was wrong. My step dad changed doctora and then had Rai. He spent 2 years trying to get the right dose of thyroxine and has now been taking 200mg for 20 years. The doctors back then said it was a really high dose and he still gets coments now if he sees a new doctor but it has worked well for him and he has been without problems now for 18years. He said he knows if he is taking to much as he gets hyper and not enough because he feels hypo .. i gues its about listening to your body. Im scared of what i have lost and whats to come but i can only hope i have an outcome as great ad his. Good Luck to You, chin up as your a brave woman and just know that during the hard times your not alone 😊

+Alicia Gilmer Thank you for that sweet comment Alicia! I'm sorry you've had to go through those tough and scary times.. I know it's really hard sometimes and gets super frustrating! But it sounds like you're trying to move forward with your treatment, which I think is wonderful! I am SO glad I decided to get surgery, it has changed my life for the better in so many ways:) Today only about 2 years after my diagnosis I feel healthy and happy and am back to my normal self! I think it's great that your step dad is listening to his body, that's the exact right thing to do! My first doctor didn't want me to go to 150, but I was sure I needed it, so I changed doctors and got my 150 and it was the right decision to make! I feel so great today, I had forgotten how amazing it is to really feel good! Sometimes doctors just don't know any better.. I understand you're scared but believe me getting further treatment will make you feel so much better! You're important and you deserve to feel good💕 Sending many healing vibes your way!! Please feel free to keep me updated of you'd like🤗
