Never knew this existed. Brilliant video guys. Most underrated channel on KZitem, don't get how you aren't on more subscribers. I could see your videos on TV, like BBC4 etc.

Gravesend is my home town. I always wanted to have a look in there but never had the chance. I've stood on top of the bunker as a kid though. Thank you!

The fact that the gear has been preserved in working order, is amazing. Really makes you feel "shizzle was about to get real". Britain entered WW1 and approached it like a 19th century war initially, and then entered the Cold War with a WW2 approach.

That’s an interesting comparison I’ve never thought of, but you are definitely onto something there

@@BeyondthePoint Kinda seems similar, maybe on a surface level at least. The first version of the Protect and Survive manual had some really WW2-esque advice which wasn't really relevant in the age of nukes. it got parodied pretty hard as a result.

@@thetelegothika5327 but Britain wasn't the soviet union, we knew we had no capacity to build underground civil shelters like USSR, the point of Protect and Survive was to reassure, not Protect, the entire thing is a giant work of propaganda designed to reassure your average member of the public that "it'll be the same as the last war" in reality as the same time as protect and Survive was being published the Home office and MOD were Expecting 60-80% Casualties even the powers that be knew that in the event the balloon went up Joe public was going to die one way or another, that's why all of the bunkers you see remaining from the period are for official Purposes not Civil Shelter, for example Royal Observer Corps, Regional/National Government, Military Strikeforce bunkers (for bloodhound and the Like) and Communications, even those weren't designed to be lived in indefinitely, the filters on ROC bunkers (even the HQs like at York) would last a maximum of 3 weeks then you were on your own. different Priorities between the Eastern and Western Powers I guess.

i lived opposite woodlans park and a few times i had gone down into this bunker as a child after someome had broken the outer door down it was always flooded and full of old documents and paperwork from graavesham council . You mention the door yes it is just a wooden door but there were a store of nuclear tight doors which in case of war you had to contact them and they brought one and fitted it !! typical goverment red tape lol also there is a rumour that there is a big depot under the park containing vehicles and equipment incse of war but its not really ever been investigated but if you look at the park you see a ridge across it so maybe some truth to it
