I spent a few hours tryna beat the full gauntlet using the Fading Onyx armor paint, while playing on Circuit mode. Here's how I managed to win.
The Fading Onyx armor paint increases the damage Kai takes...and decreases the amount of health Emergency Heal restores. Sounds detrimental, but good for a hard mode setting. Circuit mode lets you sacrifice health for bursts should you not have the proper energy to spare, while limiting your energy to 2. Kinda weird that they don't let you keep the energy upgrades, but I can go with this.
Now here's how I made things harder for myself.
My goal is to reach the Commander Circuit with as much health as possible wearing the Fading Onyx...and then survive after reaching him, a feat I managed to pull off on the Switch, and I'm repeating that here.
I have prepared two loadouts for this run, one meant for big damage, and the other act as the panic buttons. My problem is, I'm not confident when it comes to spending precious health trying to deal bigger damage for most of my time playing Circuit mode, especially not when I'm using the black armor, so clearly I'm in for a world of pain.
Both loadouts have Energy Absorber, Energy Multiplier and Emergency Accumulator for booster chips.
Main Bursts: Flying Strike, Rising Upper, Heavenly Piledrive, Catch Interrupt
Situational Bursts: Emergency Heal, Support Platform, Clone Array, Hardware Barrier
Energy Absorber and Energy Multipliers are must haves for Circuit mode, I feel. I use Emergency Accumulator so I don't lose health at the risk of being able to use less bursts. Chain Booster was gonna be part of the kit before being replaced with Energy Multiplier, but I can't for the life of me win with this equipped since I normally hold the button down, especially during the endgame bosses. That said, I've gotten VERY close with the Chain Booster, but I choked hard.
While Hardware Barrier is a good shield, for some reason it takes away another bar of energy whenever it gets destroyed, even though I didn't take any damage. Same deal for Trace's yucky goop, I dunno if that's intentional or an oversight.
I've neglected the Clone Array, which I have used in some failed runs, it makes quick work out of the Wrecker Tank and the Circuit Crystal, but since I had to build up energy to prepare a barrier, I can't risk using them. There were times I ended up using the Support Platform to avoid Blade's Freezing Cycle. And I meant to repeat the Flying Strike, not try to hug the Commander.
I didn't do this for the time attack, I did this for the self-imposed challenge.
