1. I flew full-scale planes in the 1970’s and have been flying RC since 1963. I use my transmitter’s flight modes to control the flaps and use flight mode trim on the ailerons and elevator. This allows me to trim my planes in the air so that they will glide just above the stall speed. I control the descent rate on final using the throttle, the same as I did in full-scale aircraft. 2. When a plane is about to stall, you must keep the ailerons centered and steer with the rudder. A gyro doesn’t know this, so when a wing drops it will try to stop the wing from dropping and the downward deflected aileron can cause that side to stall. 3. I have a set of DJI goggles and a SpeedyBee F405 FC, but haven’t flown them yet. Perhaps your video will motivate me to put them in something. I know it’ll be blast.

@@txkflier Thank you for sharing the insights👍 The main difference I feel between flying RC and full scale is trimming. We constantly re-trim after a power or attitude change in full scale. But in RC I trim for mid-throttle and use how much aft stick I have to hold to keep nose up as feed back on how slow the plane is going - in the absence of airspeed indication. So I have been flying FPV just fine for 6 years now without Speed OSD. But to truly apply full-scale flight training to RC flying, airspeed speed indication would be necessary. Let’s get on it😁

@@motionsic With RC planes that don’t have flaps, we trim for level flight at 3/4 to full throttle and leave it there. And when we want to land, we have to hold just the right amount of up elevator to slow down, but not so much that the plane stalls. This is one of the things that make flying RC difficult for newbies. But when you have flaps and flight mode trim, you can trim for the proper speed and use the throttle to control the descent rate. The elevator is only used for momentary corrections, the round out, and flaring. And if the plane climbs too steeply with power, a throttle to elevator mix can be used to tame it. Also, I assign the throttle position switch as the 2nd flight mode switch. If my flaps are in the landing position and I advance the throttle above 50%, my flaps with automatically go to the takeoff position which is usually 15 degrees. I have videos on how I use flight modes and my “TO/GA” switch.

WOW!!!! THIS IS AN AWESOME AMAZING SYSTEM YOU HAVE. IT'S LIKE YOU ARE ACTUALLY PILOTING THE PLANE AND THE ORIENTATION IS MUCH BETTER THAN TRYING TO SEE THE PLANE FLY FROM THE GROUND. WOW!!! REALLY AWESOME!!! My question. Are you able to install a camera underneath the plane and increase the landing the gear and switch from piloting to searching and vice versa? Thank you
@motionsic
2 күн бұрын
@@rogersmith8480 Thanks! A camera can be installed underneath the plane but usually people only choose one side or the other. Or just put camera on the very front so view to the bottom is not obstructed, depending on the plane type. I just choose to put camera at the scale pilot eye position to simulate what it would look like from a real pilot.

It's the reasons why I have airspeed sensors on all my FPV aircrafts. There are too many variables involved when using GPS ground speed, example you could be diving vertically at high airspeed with zero GPS ground speed.

Hey congrats Robert. This is what I've been doing at Apollo XI with HT unit that I got from you. I thought I could inform you how to do this when I join your club soon (early next year I guess). Are HUD built in goggle 3 and O3 ? I had to hack both 1st gen goggle and caddx and put WTFOS to do this. One question btw. Does this negate the need for reticle ?
@motionsic
Күн бұрын
Hi Romy, the OSD works already on Goggles 3. No hack needed. The reflector sight reticle serves a different purpose from the artificial horizon especially for head-tracker FPV flyers. Fixed camera FPV flyers don’t need the reticle. Then again, you can’t dogfight using the artificial horizon.

Hi Robert, If you wouldn't mind, could you explain how you wired up the flight controller? When I tried using the F405 Wing on my planes, I experienced excess current draw and lost control of the plane. Did you bypass the PWM outputs on the board and use a PWM receiver? Thank you.

@@ballinshark On this (my friend’s) setup, we only used the SpeedyBee 405 Wing FC for OSD, we did not use it for plane control at all. I am also setting up mine the same way. I stilll am not familiar enough with FC to hand control over just yet.

I have a question, is the demand for remote control planes and RC cars large in light of the presence of electronic games? Or is the demand for them decreasing? And what do you think of the future of these games? ❤❤❤❤❤❤

@@mohammaddmour9127 I don’t see a lot of new young people at our field. But that may be more specific to our field.
