A lot of credit has to go to Aaron Tveit. He was willing to take on a role virtually nobody wanted because they were afraid of the shadow of Travolta. While he didn't escape that shadow, he still put in a damn good showing and proved he had the guts to take on an impossible challenge. He may not have been as perfectly cast as Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens were, but considering the circumstances, he acquitted himself well. And let's be fair; out of all the GREASE characters, the one casting choice that's irreplaceable is Travolta as Danny. Any actor taking over the role would have been just as much at a disadvantage. Tveit made the most of a difficult situation and showed a lot of courage that a lot of other actors didn't have.
@joewhitehead3
6 жыл бұрын
I never even thought about that. You're definitely right about Travolta being irreplaceable as Danny, which was part of the reason why I wasn't too crazy about Tveit's portrayal. But reading what you wrote here, I definitely see your point. You gotta give him props for taking on the role

Reid Mason He did a very good job with this role great attitude and energy. Also great dancing and he does believe he is Danny and great chemistry with Julianne Hugh. And besides you can’t always compare with the movie. How many times has been adapted in broadway and do all the actors get hate for not being travolta ? No so I don’t see why this guy should. Can you guys stop comparing this to the original movie? I mean, they took less than 20 seconds to switch cars, less than 6 seconds for the guys to change costumes, PLUS they can't miss a beat or a single dance step. The camera shots also arranged to perfection. This Live is a magic all to itself.

I see a lot of people in the comments referring to the 1978 movie as the original. It's not. The first stage production of Grease was in 1971. If I have any nitpicks with this particular production it is that they toned down the lyrics. The original lyrics are a lot more raunchy.

This reminds me of when SNL did that 'Grease' sketch with Christopher Walken, with add-ins including "Gene Rayburn", and "Have you ever seen a dragon?" lol

Obviously this isn't going to be the same as the original...that doesn't make it bad though.
