I did too to be honest. RAW was becoming formulative by this point, despite the huge ratings. Russo and Bischoff had an action show going on while RAW was all about Rock and the precursor to reign of terror aka Trips.

It was terrible, Russo screwed up the soul of Wcw that Bischoff/ Sullivan had cultivated from 95 on. Russo didn't understand structure, didn't care about psychology, and just created crash tv. He had no storylines, and thought he could make people hot by having them do outrageous stuff that had nothing to do with rasslin. He drained the promotion of the charisma that Bishoff and others there since the early 90s had busted their butts to develop
@NoelComiX

@@chadhoganlive seriously, I really liked the cast of characters that the New Blood vs Millionaires Club story had built. I personally liked the combo of Bischoff’s gang warfare trope with Russo’s Y2K zeitgeist. I was all excited to see the Nitro after Bash at the Beach and all of a sudden the storyline was dropped and Hulk was gone.

Perfect timing with this podcast as I just reached this ppv during my rewatch of WCW. I appreciate Eric sitting down and trying to stomach this haha but i agree it's basically unbearable with Vince Russo's style. The mouth to mouth of the old man, the best of 5 tables match. Kidman wrestling Hogan still seems ridiculous to this day. Nothing made sense and was extremely gimmicked out of control. Jeff Jarrett did what was asked of him but him being champ/at the top was incredibly forced and not believable. Nothing was at this time. We had Vince Russo on the screen constantly.

I think the higher ups just let Vince Russo do whatever the hell he wanted to WCW around this time, just to get the company the hell off the air in 6-7 months. They had to know the company was done by this point, so what else did they have to lose really? Everything was a big joke, and too hokey by this point in time.

Im not a DDP fan but I was inspired when DDP brought out a crippled Kanyon to defend his friends honor but when Kanyon turned on DDP it got a little sour but when Kanyon showed off the new blood shirt it made more sense it turned out to be good but Kanyon had a lot of beef with Mike Awesome so that's were it was a little off.

I was always under the impression that if Bischoff didn't agree with any of Russo's ideas, he could veto them and then Brad Seigel would be the tie-breaker (he explained this when discussing the Bash at the Beach 2000 debacle) In that case, not sure why he allowed Russo to move forward with so many of these dumb ideas. Maybe he wanted to go along to avoid conflict. I also wonder maybe if this is where they could've split the roster into two, one roster for Nitro, led by Bischoff or Russo and one for Thunder, led by the other. Along the way, there could've been occasional cross-over. I still think there was alot of potential when Bischoff and Russo returned. Just poor execution (ie..blow torches, asylum matches, monster trucks, you name it)

Eric said that Nitro in 96, 97, and, 98 never ended in clean finishes but it didn't matter because they were compelling stories. I disagree. I was sick of the main event interference by 1998. I didn't keep watching because they were compelling stories. I kept watching because I was emotionally invested in the characters. I hated the endings of Nitro.
