Have you ever checked out Coast’s knives? I got an FX411 for Christmas back in 2017. It’s got a 4” blade, and it’s 9” overall. Steel frame lock with wood overlays to provide a palm swell. All of the dimensions of the blade strike a perfect balance between slicing or piercing and strength for harder use. No fidget factor in the thumb studs, but if I hold it in just the right place I can wrist flick it open effortlessly. The FX411 has been discontinued, but the FX412 is almost identical. Only difference in the 412 has no coating, and it comes with serrations.

No Bear Ops Rancor in S30V for $50? I know it's heavy, but not as heavy as a Buck 110. I have their Swipe lll too in 14C28N assisted open for those that want to pretend they have a switchblade. I bought the 3.625" blade one on sale from BHQ, but the 3.625 one is discontinued because Bear and Son didn't have it listed anymore. I sharpened a wicked edge on it, beggar opens fast.
@masemasemasie
3 жыл бұрын
There was a test proving that the steel on the rancor was not s30v but d2.
@MountainFisher
3 жыл бұрын
@@masemasemasie This is not D2. D2 will not take a mirror finish off a buffing wheel, leaves an orange peel affect. This took a mirror polish easily. I had to also sharpen it back by about .001 to .002 because they sharpened it without coolant and it re-tempered the edge. A very common factory knife problem like 80/90%. No kidding it's why most factory edges, even good ones, don't last as long in cutting tests. But I digress, this knife may not be S30V according to you, but it is certainly not D2. I've made too many D2 knives not to know D2 when I polish and sharpen it. So where is the article or citation that proves an American company sold D2 instead of S30V? Because if that is a proven fact there are a lot of knife dealers and knife enthusiast vloggers, journalists and KZitemrs that would like to know about it. I heard the rumor, which is why I polished part of the blade, looks nice. After hand sharpening two thousandths of an inch off it got harder fast. I've made S30V filet knives before I retired and while this certainly isn't HRC 61-62 it is around 59/60 hard and holds an edge like I'd expect S30V to do. Is it heavy? Yes, but while it is rough around the edges after I tweaked the pivot and put some light glue in it, it is certainly worth what Bear Ops ask for it, $85. It is not their fault BHQ or Knife Center sell it for $50. FYI it is a decent knife and I'd buy it again. Not all of Bear and Son knives are very good, I bought an over-ground Trapper in 1095 steel that looked like it had been used for 40 years and got sent back. I'd say they have some QC issues, but I seriously doubt they'd sub one steel for another.
