Maybe later for a good folder. I do have a limited Reel Steel modern folder with a good D2 walk 'n talk with jade G10 & a pocket clip. It was from the guys at Knife Nuts podcast. Got another four plus inches of snow. Now piled four feet high in some places in the yard. Oh, tell more about new strop and compound on it please. Hope your staying warm Erica and Nicole too.

Carbons and tool steels are my favorite. 1095, O1, super blue, D2, 3V and M4 are fantastic steels in my opinion. My steel choices in stainless is very bland and basic with the S30 family being my go to, mostly S30V, S35VN and Spy27.

Thanks for sharing. I had a french folder in my youth made by Opinel with a carbon steel blade. Edge retention was great, but it needed so much maintenance.I'm happy to use modern steels.

Fun fact. A funny way to get a patina for 1095 carbon steel knives is the potato method. Grab a sufficient sized potato, stab it in (don’t avocado hand yourself), and leave for a few hours. I have a Otter brand knife that are like GEC traditional folders. Did it for that and for my Opinel so they stop rusting

Good to hear you got the strop! I use Venev diamond stones (just the two coarsest ones. I finish all my knives on the 400 Venev), and Rex/Maxamet/ZDP189 move nicely with them. It dramatically changes the sharpening experience. I used to get anxious at the thought of reprofiling a hard steel, but now I think nothing of it.

Awesome job. Edge looks really good. Far as sharpening, I am clueless. But after I am done, it is better than factory. I might have ruined the edge but for some reason it cuts and slice better. LOL

There's a reason Tops knives still produces a majority of their knives in 1095. Along with a Majority of the Bushcraft Community knives.

I unfortunately uh... Caved into the overpriced knife second hand market but for some input I have with Cases till it my #71 comes in is this: Pocket folders like these you will end up changing the blade angle a lot. The amount of traditional folders with uneven profiles or grinds but cut like a champ are everywhere haha. 1095 has a place always, it will get work done! I crawl through alkaline heavy dirty that rusts the frames of trucks into dust, maintain it and it can work.

Good video Erica. Got a Ontario navy knife in 1095. Works awesomely. There is a reason it is still in production despite being ancient.

If heat treated right 1095 is a beast, ask tops knives about that, there storm vector, bushcrafter, and all there other knives and machetes, watch dutch bushcraft knives on youtube, they torture test knives, tops always overperforms
