Great Falls Hike | Virginia | U.S.A. | Sixty and Travelling
Great Falls are a series of rapids and Waterfalls in Potomac River near Washington DC on the border of Maryland and Virginia states. There is an exciting, almost 2-3 km long, trek along the Potomac starting from Riverbend Park, winding through the Potomac Heritage Trail and Great Falls Park and finally reaching the Great Falls Visitor Centre which is the starting point of three wonderful Overview Points on the Great Falls.
When we started on this trek from Riverbend Park, in the beginning it was quite an easy trek with cool riverside breeze, lot of greenery, quietly flowing Potomac and interesting tidbits along the way. But as we progressed, the trek started becoming a little tricky with uneven surface, frequent ups and downs, narrow slushy passage on the edge of the river bank, and steep though small climbs at some points. But such stretches only helped make our trek more exciting slightly tiring, but definitely much more enjoyable an experience. About half a kilometre before the end point of our trek, the path again became very simple and even. After reaching Great Falls Visitor Centre, we rested for a while and then visited the three Overview Points, one after the other. Each one of these overview points are big tourist attractions in their own way. Together these Overview Points give a very comprehensive view of the Great Falls.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, dark clouds descended on the area and it started raining too. But rains didn't last for long, leaving a very pleasant, cool and great setting behind. It was time for us to sign off after a great trekking tour.
Bye, till our next adventure!
