Learning helps. but exploring is the only Real Way to learn. Since January 2021 I've explored and visited Many springs, hiking trails, and rivers, including the Upper and Lower Ocklawaha (including both major dams), the Upper and Lower Suwannee river, Santa fe river (got me into exploring over my past hobby of fossil hunting/ snorkeling, actually early 2020), Myakka, Hillsborough, Withlacoochee, Corkscrew swamp, Payne's s prairie, Black bear hiking preserve, Ocala forest some, Salt springs, Manatee springs, Alexander springs, Yankeetown/ WIthlacoochee river delta, etc. Know I must be missing some big ones... Nothing like True FL Nature, and I've just scratched the Surface ;)

Great job! This video will help spread the word about the plight of the Ocklawaha, an iconic river in the stranglehold of an obsolete dam and reservoir, to Floridians in other parts of the state. Most of them know nothing of the ongoing tragedy of this dam & reservoir, a system their own tax dollars are paying to keep in place. Remove Kirkpatrick Dam and let the Ocklawaha run free!

Thank you Free the Ocklawaha for uploading this educational documentary! I wrote about the tragedy of the Rodman dam for a college essay recently, so I really enjoyed watching this informative documentary. I gained more insight into the imperative need to breach the dam--well done!

Well done video! I hope I can see the damn dam breached in my lifetime. I first became aware of this mess as a UF student in the '80s.

It’s been almost four years since this documentary was produced. Did it fall on deaf ears since nothing has been done?

Sounds like a reasonable endeavor. However, allow me to play devil’s advocate. What are the opponents saying for not restoring the river? And why has it not happening?

This is a very well-produced promotional video for this latest non-governmental Ocklawaha River restoration initiative.

I am a registered Florida voter and -- avoiding any possible perjury issues -- would be agreeable to signing ONCE a real LEGAL official petition to place a real question on a real LEGAL official ballot pertaining to restoration of the Ocklawaha River by the breaching of Rodman (Kirkpatrick) Dam as long as the wording of the petition is true, accurate, and correct with real documentation and scientific literature citations to support its argument.

Does the Senator not know that the Silver Springs glass bottom boats still run the springs?

At 49 years since the Cross Florida Barge Canal project was halted, perhaps it is way past-due time for this Ocklawaha River restoration issue to be placed on the official ballot in 2022 or so as a referendum question of some type for actual Florida voters to make their wishes known about (and politicians to take a stand on)? Supporting peer-reviewed scientific literature and reasons for, projected costs, projected returns, and so on could be explained in a REAL legal petition that attracts the signatures of registered-to-vote Floridians. Maybe 10,000 or so certified names of those who legally have voting rights in this state would be required to make it happen?

MY OPINE, SERIOUSLY: At 49 years since the Cross Florida Barge Canal project was halted, perhaps it is way-past-due time for this Ocklawaha River restoration issue to be placed on the official ballot in 2022 or so as a referendum question of some type (non-binding or such) for actual Florida voters to make their wishes known about (and politicians to take a stand on)? Supporting peer-reviewed scientific literature and reasons for, projected costs, projected returns, and so on could be explained in a REAL legal petition that attracts the LEGAL signatures of registered-to-vote Floridians. Maybe 10,000 or so certified names of those who legally have voting rights in this state would be required to make it happen? COME-ON, ARE WE ACTUALLY SERIOUS ABOUT THIS ISSUE - OR NOT?

If the dam is taken down how will waterside properties be affected? Won’t the waterside properties all become high and dry as the lake becomes a narrow shallow river? Homes will lose their lake front quality as the waters edge goes out hundreds of feet from homeowner’s docks? How about waterside restaurants with their boardwalk dining? What happens to their waterside appeal when water’s edge goes out a hundred feet? What happens to ANYBODY who has invested their life savings to have a lakeside property when the dam goes and the water becomes a narrow shallow thing? I am not taking anyone’s side. I am a transplant here so #1 I don’t have the right to take a strong stance for either side but I’ve seen this exact situation before and I saw how some people benefitted and others were very negatively impacted……they were ruined. Most reports I’ve seen tout nothing but fantastic new opportunities as the rivers adjust to a different flow. I still see that many people will be negatively impacted so why not put the demolition of the dam on the ballot and let folks vote on it.
