So, we have no idea what's going to happen... just keep creating, stay up to date on new trends, try new approaches to content creation and DON'T GIVE UP! Would that sum up the news? Am I forgetting something? (By the way, the music was a little bit distracting for me 😅)

Social media doubled down on short form videos overnight and completely ignored everyone else. I am a photographer, and I immediately became irrelevant because I didn't want to turn my photography into videos. But, that goes for every single person who didn't want to post 3 videos every day. Now, John & Jane Simpleton who just wanted to interact with their friends and a few favorite creators, they're no longer seeing their friends' posts because now their feed is full of video creators and ads. The everyday, average human beings, are the ones who hold the power to social media. Forcing EVERYONE to participate in short form videos was never going to be a sustainable practice.

I've been telling my fellow photographers for years: likes and followers don't validate the quality of your work. There's people who have tens of thousands of followers, who are mediocre photographers. There's spectacular photographers who have only a couple of hundred followers. As long as you do what you like and create what you like to create, the right audience for you will find you. Others, much like you described, just put out the content they think people will like to see. Then when it doesn't catch on, they cry about it. When in fact, they should just be honest with themselves and ask if it really is their best work or not.

@@TJ-ct9rr that’s really all subjective, though. On a technical level, those that know what they’re doing will usually go further. But it’s also a matter of understanding how IG works. All the best stuff is just people messing around. I always think of the ninja turtles. The idea is so stupid and the creators were just goofing off. It started as a joke but the property is worth billions now. Exactly the same thing when we go to search for something a thought or idea suddenly hits us and we go to find videos or information about it, i've been functioning on the internet like this since 2018 now after some really big let downs my loyalty only became to myself not helping people constantly make views. I'm subscribed to a small handful of channels but honestly i only regularly watch 3 of them one of them is tasting history with max miller because it's good stuff and interesting i learn something new every time. The rest of the time search for whatever's on my mind each day, sadly i have to remove a lot of them from my watch history after because it doesn't mean i want to regularly watch it and most videos are attached to clickbait but they certainly get multiple views because of how many times i have to edit my comments until they actually get posted and that's probably why they do it so i do enough. On average i only watch a few videos per day now mostly i listen to music and i don't care about shorts at all and i stay away from animal videos because the more you watch the more it takes over your recommendations which is the same problem with other social media sites. It sometimes tries to get me to watch them but i then click not to recommend the channels or say i don't like it lol as soon as i see it telling me to not recommend a few channels it backs away lol at least i can do that on here but on others i had no choice what showed up on the feed.

lets be honest, You can do everything right on instagram and it doesnt matter because instagram has taken away the ability for the people to make their own decisions about what they want to see. you can have the greatest content on instagram and have factors outside of your control decimate your reach. nothing you did wrong its just simply the algorithm has chosen that its not gonna show content like yours. thats pretty much what it comes down to. a new app needs to be created that is everything instagram used to be before the algorithms. i like the fanbase app personally

@@JMRabil675 that’s lie. Instagram employees literally have a heat up and cool down button. This is documented. Employees have the power to make their friends go viral they also have the power to cool down aka shadow ban people/pages they don’t like. This is a documented fact. It’s also a documented fact that black creators are negatively affected by the algorithms because they are programmed in such a way that minimizes their reach and engagements. Congress literally grilled tik tok about this in a hearing. So you can’t tell me nothing about how I’m wrong about this. You can do literally everything right and have the best content in the world and Instagram whether through janky algorithms, prejudice employees or many currently unknown factors will destroy the reach of your account. The fact that Instagram is an ad revenue based platform makes Instagram a direct competitor to us as creators. It hurts Instagram’s bottom line if you as a creator have a million followers and all your posts get sent to 1 million accounts. That means a company would be better off paying you to reach a million followers rather than paying Instagram for ads. So what Instagram does is kills everyone’s reach so that it is more beneficial for companies to Instagram instead of a creator who has a million followers but they only reach 50,000 out of the million. I can debunk what you are saying from so many different angles. The Instagram algorithm is a joke. It’s a total fraud and they are literally stealing from the user base.

I miss Instagram being photos, youtube about long form content and tiktok when it was short form and not constant ads. Also, I really needed to hear that whole thing about how you grew slowly over time and built an audience while watching others in your niche grow quickly. That's how I feel like I am now. I am not growing as quickly as other people, but I am steadily growing a consistent audience who is very active on my discord and watches all of my videos and live content. I just started posting to KZitem after wanting to since 2018... just posting to mainly show family/friends. Not trying to make it a job, just wanted to show off my adventures. And hopefully at some point get to start testing gear sent to me for free 😂 camping gear is expensive...

It's really weird to me youtube tried so hard to be tick tock with their "shorts" and now tick tock is trying so hard to become KZitem. It reminds me of when Britney Spears first came out and invested so much energy in trying to be Janet Jackson, and then when Janet Jackson revamped her career she was trying to be Britney Spears.

This video was…inspiring? I’ve been creating content that I put a LOT of effort into for years and I’ve recently seen a lot of videos about how people are sick of short form and done with the mundane promotions and ads. I’ve seen videos about how it’s taken bigger creators 8 years of posting to actually start to gain traction. Oh, the instant graduation curse. This inspired me to get back to it and continue to create and do my own authentic thing. I’m going to keep going. It’s for other people, really - not for me, at the end of the day. I create for others, because I have a lot to share. I’m so glad that the community is catching up on this. Thank you, 10x over for this video.

Social media deserves to fall apart. It should never have existed in the first place. Social media was a data collection mechanism for AI. We got duped into using it and supporting it through ads. It's a mechanism that completely devalues human beings. Like, we might not be at the point where AI can do everything, but it might get to the point where nothing you do, no endeavor you undertake will matter. It's essentially the end of human achievement.

KZitem changed its algorithm. Even large channels have a large decline in views compared to how many subscribers they have. My 10k videos currently have a ridiculous 500 views each. They clearly want to discourage people from living and focusing on real life and regular work. And this is happening not only on KZitem. Such a commandment.

1:13 One big problem with the paid model is, what constitutes an ad? Is something an "influencer" (whatever the hell that means anymore) is trying to peddle on IG engaged in advertising? I sure as hell won't pay for access any social media platform--most of them are cesspools--and if the intent is to replace ad-supported platforms with paid models, I suspect a lot of people will say, "I'm out"

I miss 1995 wild west internet so much. Yahoo chat had official fight rooms. I remember going in them and just lurking hearing people over voice chat go at each others throats verbally. It was a place where people could vent and it was SO entertaining. Now people are too sensitive to even have minor disagreements online without the ban hammer coming down on you on reddit or something. Internet isn't as fun to use anymore and all social media has done has fostered witch hunts against people that make mistakes.

One of the problems is that being a content creator became a job instead of a passion project people did on the side. Most people are hard up on money, they're not going to be able to pay Patreons for these creators that want to make a living off of their content.
@ALifeWellSteved

It’s inflation, plane and simple. The “creator economy” was a result of COVID money printing and now that all that stimulus is gone, rent/student loan payment moratoriums are over and prices have jumped upwards of 50% on things like insurance in the last 5 years everyone’s risk tolerance is very low. Companies have less money to spend on ads (if they’re even in business anymore) and crafting a content strategy is impossible when you’re hungry with no food. No one has time for this garbage anymore, and we don’t want to watch people in opulent studios wax philosophically when it takes multiple jobs just to keep the same lifestyle we had less than a decade ago.

Truth. And things are going to get worse for some. I’m seeing so many layoffs in my area- thousands of jobs, 10 to 15% of employees, one retail online company completely shut. Friends are telling me they have been told there are no raises coming in 2024- so they will effectively be working just as hard for less because of inflation.

I think we're all in agreement as creators that visibility is important. The hours, blood sweat and tears spent doing something with love has value. I only have 1,280 followers and communicate with 10-15 who value what I do. The most mediocre content accounts I have seen have followers in the thousands, which I fail to recognize. Nobody knows for sure.

Honestly, this is what the Internet was like in the early 2000s before capitalism took over and birthed influencers by allowing individuals to directly work with advertisers to have ads on their blogs (weblogs, or web diaries were around before Facebook, and then Instagram, and then Snapchat, etc. started taking off). I really miss the days when people were "making content" because they were having fun and it was a hobby. As we saw during the pandemic, people are incredibly creative when they're doing something out of boredom/joy, rather than to pay the bills.

I hate super short form content. I think it's brain rot. Some of it can be informative which is nice but for 90% it's awful. I never wanted short form to come to Instagram and it did, when that happened I knew it was headed to youtube. Now that it's on KZitem, if they start putting ads on short form content I'll be done with it forever I think. I think a lot of people don't mind a meaningful plug, or a 5 second ad before a video. But not 2, 5 second ads back to back before the video even starts, then another unskippable ad at the 1 minute mark, then a few more drizzled throughout and before you know it you've seen at least 6 ads in a 5 minute video. It gets extremely irritating because of the placement and the fact that they're just getting absurdly greedy at this point and I know they aren't paying youtubers enough for it either.

Thing is marketers started scanning analytics with all the wrong metrics, they don’t even know what they want to get from their campaigns. They used to throw money at creators and that would be that, but now they have to really think how to integrate that into a strategy and are blaming creators for weak results and driving down prices 😂

The problem is that people try to make money directly from social media - that’s wrong. Social media should be only used to get recognition, status, influence power, trust, etc. And then with this status, you can make money, but being influencer just to make money is so not-worth-it.
