The Great Pyrenees is also called Pyrenean Mountain Dog, or simply Pyr. Indeed, their name came from the mountains where they originally served as livestock guardians. As guardians, these dogs naturally have strong protective instincts. Therefore, they are best suited for owners who can provide them with the right training and early socialization.
