@A Bison I agree with the OP in that even the good cops can overreact and look foolish in the eyes of the public and the law. But , with the calls to defund the police it is usually based on a small number of cops acting illegally while performing their duties. The vast majority of police interactions that happen daily in the country happen without incident. In this day and age, you can bet that every police interaction is being recorded by one or more sources. So no, the "defund" cry is totally on the part of the woke leftist grifters trying to scam money out of public outrage using out of context and mischaracterized police interactions. Not all interactions are that way but none are sanctioned by any department when officers act illegally.

I was a retail grocery manager for some years, and I can attest to just how common this exact activity is. Usually, the back doors are locked and alarmed, and the manager is the only one with keys. Drivers will show up with a load, and sometimes you're caught up with a customer or something and can't get to the door right away to let them in. Instead of waiting, they'll walk around, get a bite to eat, use the bathroom, and walk back around and hang out until the trailer is unloaded/reloaded with empty pallets and recycle. I'm glad this man got his dues, and I'm suspect of the authority these deputies even had on private property to enforce those rules. Usually, without a written agreement to enforce them, they can't just roll up on private property and start enforcing stuff like that. Had they bothered to ask the manager on duty, I'm sure they could have cleared it up. But instead, they were on a mission, and now the taxpayers are out half a mill. Not to mention the inconvenience to the business. They now have a truck blocking the dock, and may have had to have another CDL driver shipped to the store to remove it. In my area, the distribution center was in another state 5 hours away. Good job deputies!

I've got a bunch of dealership experience with OHV's. They usually come in crates, or on a trailer that's on the semi trailer. Forklift or a travel crane is used to unload. And then the parts department might get a few pallets showing up that also needed unloaded. More than 2-3 trucks at once, and they have to wait off property. Pretty common in any business that receives actual FREIGHT to have semi's waiting to be loaded or unloaded.

My question exactly! Why were the cops patrolling private property? I had two cops in their car ask me, while I was in my car, why I was in the lot after the grocery store was closed. It was maybe 5 minutes after their posted closing time . I told them I was waiting for my wife. The senior cop (just saying because he looked older than the other cop and he was driving, but I digress) then joked by asking if I was sure that it wasn't the girlfriend I was waiting for. I did not find any amusement on any level from his humor and stonefaced repeated that I was waiting for my wife. He tried to cover up his lack of comedic ability by telling me he was just joking. I said I didn't find it funny and more to the point insulting. He wisely decided to just apologize and move on without arguing about it. I knew why he was there and watched him go car to car that had someone in it and probably ask the same question of why they were there before he got to me. He was just doing his job of making sure the people in the cars had a plausible excuse for being there and if someone was planning some criminal act, they might be deterred from committing said act. I just wanted to answer his question and then be left alone. I didn't want to be his friend or be his fan boy by thanking him for his service, like a cuck. I just wanted him to leave.

2 stories from my youth. 1st, went to a bowling alley with a group of friends after church one evening. Place was packed, so we turned around and left. Walked out to our cars and were discussing where else we could go. Police/security came out from inside and told us to quit loitering, get in our cars and leave. Didn't want to hear an excuse about looking for somewhere else to go. So we left, and never went back to that bowling alley again. 2nd. Couple years later, I'm a manager at a roller skating rink. Just locked up and me and a couple of friends were standing out on the porch chatting when the local PD pulled up and griped about us loitering (there was a no loitering sign right above us). Showed him when I unlocked the door and we all just walked back inside leaving him standing by his car.

Since we had plenty of time we naturally continued our conversation from in the restaurant for a bit before we started talking about the movie. As we were talking a police officer rolled up beside my friends car and asked us what we were doing. I answered truthfully and said talking. It's a lot safer to harass people than to actually go patrol high crime areas where bad guys might be found. There is nothing at all wrong with my car, my license plate and inspection sticker are up to date; I do not run red lights and yes I know it's unusual but I very seldom speed. Those stupid dumb cops are always trying to make their quota because the police force tells them to do that. Whoever thought up THAT dumb crazy way to run a police force? It comes from the original slave patrol - they literally were patrolling for runaway slaves. Ergo, if you see someone, arrest them, because they're bound to be guilty. My favorite interaction with a cop. I was a firefighter. We gone on a mutual aid call to a nearby district for a large fire. Around 3:00 AM we head back to our station. We still have work ahead of us, replace the hoses used, clean and hang the dirty hoses, clean and service all the equipment used, all to get the engine and crew ready for the next run. Driving through a neighboring town, well known for speed traps, I see blue lights behind the engine I'm driving. I pull to the side to let him by... he stops behind me... I'm thinking he spotted something loose on the engine. He walks up to the drivers side, "I got you for 28 in a 25!" I look over at my officer, a huge WTF on his face. I looked down at the officers, now remember I've just spent 12 hours working hard at a fire and still have several hours of work to go and no sleep. I'm tired, thirsty and hungry. Not a time to be a petty tyrant with me. I look down and the cop and said, "We have to this engine in service, come to the station to write us up." I then drove off. He never came to the station.

We were at a pizza place, and while waiting in the outdoor seating area for our pizza we decided to play a game of hackey sack. My gf and myself had our backs to the road while playing, and shortly into the game I heard an authoritative voice yell 'no loitering, keep moving!'. I turned around with an confused/irritated look on my face to see who was trying to kick me off of pizza joint property while waiting for a pizza, and saw two officers sitting in their cruiser. The look on their faces when they realized that we were adults, and older than they were, was priceless. They lost the attitude, put the cruiser in drive, and left without saying another word. Steve, Similar to your story of eating Pizza, I had an encounter in the early 1990's one Sunday morning around 09:00 a.m. while delivering Phone Books in DeWitt. While walking down the sidewalk and then up to each house and placing the phone books either inside the stormdoor if unlocked, or on the porch, a police officer stops his cruiser and as me what I was doing "Out here in DeWitt"? Told him that I was delivering phone books and held one up for him to see. His response was "Well, We'll be watching you." A much more legitimate reason for stopping me would have been that my 3/4 ton van was clearly overloaded with at that point close to 3500 lbs of phone books. If I had not installed extra heavy duty pickup tires on the van it would have had 4 blown tires. Despite the obvious overload he ignored that real violation to harass me for walking around in Dewitt on a Sunday morning. This was a DeWitt officer by the way, not state or county and it was in Phone Book Season, so they should have known that people were out delivering phone books to houses. Had County Deputies drive by outside of town during my two weeks and never slow down or seem to bat an eye about me delivering the books.

After we started to eat our ice cream a city cop pulled in and demanded we all leave. I had just returned from Vietnam and was not in the mood to take this guy crap. I told him I will leave when I am good and ready. With 12 of us and one of him, he decided he had better leave which he did.

Not law enforcement related but sort of the same idea regarding 'stupid' questions from an 'official': Years ago I was re-shingling the roof of my house. I had a pallet of shingles on the ground, a ladder going up to the roof and friend nailing off the new shingles. A local building inspector pulled down the driveway and walked over towards me and asked, "What are you doing?" Incredulously, I looked at the pallet of shingles and at the guy on the roof and I said, "I'm re-shingling my roof." He asked, "Where's your permit?". "For putting new shingles on my roof?", I replied. He told me that it was a 'new ordinance' that the town had come up with that required a building permit for doing such work. I suggested to him that I had a 'new ordinance' and that he was trespassing and he was not welcome on my property. He left and I never heard anything more about it - until I sold the house a few years later - when a 'certificate of occupancy' was needed to complete the sale. It seemed that, when the building inspector returned to his office after my 'trespassing charge', he had removed the existing C.O. from the file. This forced me to apply for a new C.O. which, in turn, required me to 'invite' the building inspector back in to 'inspect' the house and to inspect it using current 'codes' which hadn't been in force when the the house was originally built 20 years before. It caused a bit of a legal 'flap'. He eventually was fired, I received a C.O., and the house was sold. I had poked the bear.

The thing I liked most about being a "seasoned" Police Officer" was that there was nothing; short of insulting my wife that anyone could say that ticked me off. I patrolled an area where many Canadian Citizens snow skied, got drunk, and acted stupid. They would often try to insult the President of the United States and would often ask, "what do you think about that?" I would usually tell them that any real American will insult, debase, and degrade our political leaders and advise them to be more original. As a Field Training Officer, I would tell my trainees to expect insults; it's part of the job and just ignore them.

Had everyone & everything I've ever loved talked about. When you can ignore it, or give it back; "You'd do that to my sister (mother/wife) you're more sick than I thought." They typically quit. Another good one is when they give an insult that's particularly clever/ funny, I would laugh at it. I can appreciate originality, cleverness, and a joke. Weird thing happened many years ago, nearly 20, when I ran into "that" cop in Escondido. The bar was crowded because of a local comedian doing his thing. The patio was worse after the show was over. I kind of circumvented the rules a bit to get from under the press of people. There is a little fence seperating the street from the bar patio, but since it was so packed I decided that standing on the outside of the fence next to my group was preferable. From time to time, I'd reach onto the table and take a sip of my sprite (I was DD that night), not paying much attention and enjoying a bit of extra elbow room. A cop walks up behind me a claps me on the shoulder. Not hard, but firm enough to make me jump. He asks for ID and pulls out his ticket book. I hand over my license, cause my uncle was a cop and I don't tend to give them a hard time. At least typically. "What's the problem?" "Writing you a ticket for public consumption." Now thinking I knew what the problem was I tell him, "Oh, I'm DD tonight. That's just a sprite. Feel free to breathelize me and everything." I then move to hand him the Sprite so he can check. He glances at it, then continues to write. "Can't have glass on the public street." Now, starting to be irritated, I flick the container, you can hear the thud of plastic. I cross my arms, "What else you got?" Now I will admit I was much larger than the officer, and when he put his book away and returned my license, I thought that was the end. 15 minutes go by. The show is over, and we're all getting ready to leave. My sister has come to pick up her husband. She has this 6-week old pug that was her Christmas present. Cop rolls up, this time in his squad car and another officer. I have no doubt he was sore about our earlier exchange. He comes up to me as I was talking to my sister. He notices the 6-week old puppy has gone and peed on the sidewalk at 12:00AM. He pulls out his ticket book and starts writing a ticket for an unleashed dog. The dog she only set down because he was peeing. The 6-week old pug puppy. Not a real public danger to anyone. He was doing it, I have no doubt, because he had to write someone associated with me for something. However, he abruptly decided to change that ticket into a warning as our party fully manifested around the two officers. Seven Marines. Seven fairly intoxicated Marines. Seven fairly intoxicated Marines that had decided personal space was subjective. Oh and me, who was sober and not a Marine, and my sister who also isn't a marine. (Oh and a pug) The ticket became a warning at that point. Being honest, we all decided that hanging out any longer might be waving the red flag in front of the bull. I sometimes think about that fiasco. No one was hurt. No one even made a conplaint. Nothing really happened. But when a guy like that can't let something go, I wonder how he became a cop, and what else he does to make sure he "wins."

Unfortunately after giving him it a cop pulled next to me, apparently firmillar with "Mike" , and began speaking to him which I ignored their conversation as I had some task to attend to while me my clothes were in the wash... suddenly "Mike" says " hey dude. He.wants to know your name?" .. and since I had done nothing wrong , had not even acknowledged the cop and was angled away from the cop and was facing "Mike" who was outside my car standing by my driver side head light.. I asked Mike "why does he want to know my name?' which apparently was an challenge to the cops " authoritity" , because that cop immediately got out of his car angered, yelling "when a cop asks you something blah blah blah" which I responded " you didn't ask me . You asked him" which he preceeded to yank me out of my car.... now I'm bearly 6 ft tall and the cop must have been only 5'8" so I knew now what his issue was . and it was a mistake to give this little man a badge and gun... .. As it were...I had no California drivers license ... and thoughi wasn't driving ..he made a promise to "get me"... and proceeded to go and park about 100 feet away ... so I finished my laundry....and he was still there.its about 3 pm... sun set a couple hours....and he was still parked there waiting for me.. I fell asleep in my car..woke up about 8pm..laundromat closed... finally the cop drove off..... Still , to waste all that time and public money .... just to...the term used by police is .... "humble" me to "respect there authority " ... is way too common occurrence donein every jurisdiction and should be eliminated since it empowers cops to abuse their authority as what happened to the truck driver... he got paid but little of anything will happen to the cop who obviously arrested him for no reason other then not kissing the cops butt ...any reprimand will be temporary (3 years at the most but probably only 1 year before it comes out of his record and is free to abuse it again

The Montgomery incident was because a week earlier, a white semi had stolen equipment off another job site across the county, and I had the bad luck of being parked on a job with a white semi with construction equipment on my trailer. The lead deputy there, after asking what I was doing and me answering "well I was sleeping until y'all woke me up", ended up being a really nice guy and really apologetic. After one exceptionally busy Saturday summer night we, the crew, were standing around in the parking lot chatting, waiting on someone's ride to arrive and decompressing. Only to have this local yokel flip his lights on and whip into the parking lot. He tried to tell me we had to leave. It took several exchanges before his backup showed up. They then turned their lights off and quietly left. Telling us the same thing "y'all need to move along" Keep in mind everyone, excluding myself in a shirt and tie, were wearing uniforms. There were no outside people present.

The sad part is that the officers and court, jail personnel bear no responsibility or accountability

Neither the jail employers nor the court should be held liable for a bad arrest. The man was released by the court with no bail as soon as he was brought there, and the jail's job is not to second-guess the arrest. (If they are aware of a particularly bad arrest, they should probably have a method of reporting it, but they aren't provided with the police reports, so they usually don't have the whole story for each person arrested.)

Maybe they need to have the ability to intervene, or take personal responsibility and see that true justice is done

The truck driver clearly acted within his rights, but I would have acted differently. I’m a retired Prosecutor and Judge and in the same circumstances I would have just politely answered the cop’s question. I don’t want some yahoo roughly arresting me, cuffing me, throwing me in the back of a dirty cop car, perp walked into jail, photographed, fingerprinted and put in a filthy jail cell with all sorts of unsavory creeps because I didn’t answer simple questions like, “What are you doing here?”. I don’t want to have to hire a lawyer and go thru all the “fun” of suing the police and police department and city, even if I can get $500,000. One third goes to the lawyer, plus any fees to file the charges and my freedom is worth much more to me than this. Also, if I was still working, I wouldn’t want to explain it all to my boss and explain why he has to pay a fee to get his truck out of impoundment. However I applaud the trucker for his bravery.

My uncle was a cop in our town/city then became a judge. He as so many stories how he hates having to go full force on someone he knows, but once the crime is done, you gotta answer for it in jail/court. He tried running for office but lost, i think it was b/c he was such a good cop and didnt fall in w/ the corrupt bad ones... b/c he had some wild stories about that of city police.

LEHTO, could you provide the attorney. It’s very difficult to find an attorney to take my case to sue the HPD. Folks are legitimately afraid of police retaliation. These guys are unbelievably corrupt. My complaint uncovered just that which was aired on the news here in Hawaii.

Neil Saavedra is a good guy. He is a weekend talk show host on KFI AM radio. His Sunday morning show is called “The Jesus Christ Show” where people call in and ask Bible questions. Neil plays the part (like an actor in a play) of Jesus, answering the questions. Neil is incredibly knowledgeable about the Bible. He is also a foodie and has a show on Saturday afternoon talking about food. Beyond that, Neil may also be KFI’s Director of Marketing.

Sometimes I think some young officers are as paranoid as a 10-year meth head that's been awake on a bender for 6 days. No matter what you say, you're a criminal. No matter what you are doing, you're up to no good. No matter what you answer to ANY of their stupid questions, you're disrespectful towards them PERSONALLY. No matter how you act, you want to harm them. These are the type of officers that NEED a yearly psych evaluation...some, maybe once a week!

True story Dad and I were on our roof putting on shingles. A cop pulls up on the street stops gets out and yells whatta you doing. Dad with hatchet 🪓 in hand says hang around a few minutes and maybe you'll figure it out. And back to work we went. Cop looks puzzled for about thirty seconds gets back in the car and drives away 😅

A motorcycle shop owner once hired me to fix up an old travel trailer he had bought. On a Saturday afternoon I was on the roof with a can of Henry's in one hand and and a putty knife in the other, while wearing a tool belt. Suddenly I heard, "you! What are you doing up there?" I looked around and there was a cop on either side of the trailer, each with his gun pointed directly at me. I replied, "what the **** does it look like I'm doing?" After I climbed down, they claimed they were responding to a silent burglary alarm from the shop. They asked for my I.D., and I refused to show it. They threatened to take me in and I told them, "fine, let's go. I got no plans for the night anyway...." Eventually a supervisor showed up, and when he asked why I wouldn't show them my ID I said, "why should I cooperate with a couple of idiots who pointed loaded guns at me for no good reason? The damn fools could've accidentally shot me." He thought it over for a minute and asked, "will you let me see your ID, if I don't show it to them?" It was getting dark and chilly by then, so I handed him my license. He glanced at it, handed it back and said, "you're free to go, sir. Have a nice evening." Of course, one reason I didn't want to show them my license was because I had an overdue traffic ticket, and thought there might be a bench warrant out on me. 🙂

Great video. I just realized a new benefit of all the videos showing police misbehavior. Juries are slowly, but surely, realizing that police are not the angels that they want us to believe they are.
