Pretty impressed with how the assassin's trophy performed. Seems like the extra land never really punished us and It solved everything for us. I wonder if the card is just underestimated. Didnt believe in it especially as a 4 of at the beggining of the video but it's hard to argue against it now.
@tanta1519

It could be a factor of the decks construction. With 4 uro ramping out lands and several value engines keeping the action coming, exchanging the opponents squeeze pieces and game enders with basics (that they might not have) isn't a huge draw back.

Hey Chase, did you know the card Punishing Fire synergizes very well with the legendary planeswalker card Dack Fayden? You can use the land card Grove of the Burnwillows to "rebuy" your Punishing Fire to discard to Dack Fayden's first loyalty ability, netting yourself "card advantage. Had to get the meme in. Great to hear Stryfo again. :D

this deck is a perfect example of how to play control, and having the insight of a control player. you only affect the spells that "matter" until you have a strong way to turn the corner. and while you lose the "consistency" of 4 ponder to get loam and cling, they add a level of inevitability with dack that you otherwise wouldn't lack. a deck like this rewards you for tight play while having just enough of each axis to stay alive until it gets there. simply genius deckbuilding and i'm here for it

Even though it's a pity that the opponents were absent in 2 of you matches, it was still a real, visceral pleasure to watch a deck so well thought-trough and functioning so smoothly on so small margins. This is definitely one of my favorite decks. There aren’t many fair decks built around synergy anymore. And as much as I hate Bowmasters, I’ve been hoping to see it alongside Dack. Sad we never fired that laser, though. 2:29:10 *cries in Glimpse Elves* Honestly, Bowmasters isn’t nearly as bad as Ragavan, Arcanist, W6, or Oko, but I personally don’t think the bar for bans should be such hideously high levels of power. Legacy can tolerate Bowmasters, but I don’t think it or cards like it improve the format. Sure, anything new and different adds novelty, but novelty always fades, and I think afterwards we’ll be in a worse place. My opinion doesn’t matter, though. I’m just screaming into the void. 😅😐😕😭

Counterpoint to the bownasters discussion. It's not just a card that punishes unfair decks. It also punishes any deck that wants to play fair games with x/1 creatures. I.e. DnT, Goblins, Elves, etc

The ponder cuts were interesting. Curve should have been a consideration too, though. I'm not against cutting Impulses and Considers in my Standard mono blue Haughty Djinn deck if I don't have dead cards to cut. BUT I will only do that if I'm bringing in Spell Pierces, not top ends like 5 mana Flow of Knowledge
@beyond7hecurve
Жыл бұрын
You mostly shouldn't think of Ponder as a 1-drop for curve considerations. It doesn't advance your board or disrupt your opponent in any way. This deck's curve basically starts at 2. Its whole premise is to surrender early game tempo and eventually out-grind the opponent with redundant value engines. The same pattern doesn't apply to your standard example, where your goal is to make a threat early and protect that threat.
@derekcline950
Жыл бұрын
@beyond7hecurve oh no you misunderstand. Ponder and Brainstorm are lands. If your curve drops, you can cut Ponder because you need less lands.
@beyond7hecurve

@@beyond7hecurve Ponder and Brainstorm are part of your mana base, as Brian likes to often state. I'm not thinking of Ponder as a 1-drop for curve considerations. I'm saying curve considerations should affect whether you cut a land (e.g. ponder)

Legacy plays og duel lands which don't enter tapped so you can get them whenever and they are usable so getting them at the last possible moment hides information and let's you shuffle away a card you otherwise would have drawn which is great if you knew the card was bad or just not advancing your game state
