I really like this song, it might even be in my top ten. I love it more each time I hear it too. I give it an 8! Interesting because I gave it a 6.5 when I first heard it but have come to appreciate it more with each listen! Is my memory correct, didn't he originally put out an acoustic version of this?

Good critique, and I've been saying the same thing: this should have been full acoustic. I think Victor is probably pretty talented and just needed a little guidance in the production room to refine some of the instrumental ideas. I'm still somewhat inclined to enjoy it, though, if only because we don't get enough low voices like this in popular music.

It's crazy to me people say that. Those synth arpeggios were by far my favourite part of the song. And what's interesting is that the melodies of most songs, especially at Eurovision, sound off to me (or at least like they could be improved) in at least some parts, but this one sounded flawless. So it's funny how, out of all the songs there are, it's this one that sounds wrong to people. All in all, I actually like the song, and it's definitely in my top 10 this year. Having first heard this song, I thought most people would agree with me as it sounds pretty accessible and mainstream, but apparently not.
@americaneurofans
Жыл бұрын
@@maxkho00 Well, I don't want to overanalyze it. If people think it sounds good, then that's all that matters, really. But for the record, the things that were bothering me about it were those fat synth horn sounds undergirding the second verse and pre-chorus, and a sort of weird, plucky sound in the second chorus that my ear couldn't identify and felt incongruous. I'm certainly no expert on production, though. I just personally would have preferred a more acoustic approach, as I said, because I do like the vocal melody and think the song is otherwise pretty well written.

As time goes by more interesting i find from many aspects as song independently from the contest . First of all he wrote it at the age of 13 when he had a panic crisis that we have forget how strong is at the age of early youth.That is an important message for him he wants to share it like a gift and knowledge from his experience . Second the processure is unique more near to rock ballad of 90 's and becoming more alternative pop at the end.Then is his deep voice that reminds old rock n roll singrers .And most of all his energy that is of a very young man , a child of 16 that he believes that his truth is the one ! Not easy to be like from people ready for ...circus but hopefully can find enough to get through to the finally . Important also that stage director will be the director of Greek National Opera ! Thanks for your sincere, always lovely, reaction ! Its a honour

After watching your video I can appereciate the song more. I had loved the lyrics before but now it all comes together. The inner turmoil of a creative but deeply hurt soul that is struggling with the parts of his personality, on one hand his will to lead a colurful, happy life and on the other hand wanting to shout out his dark inner life but being restricted by depression or something. The voices battling it out inside of him are reflected in the musical choices. I'm overthinking, but I don't care ;)

I also thought the mixing in the backing track was a bit of a mishmash. It felt like they didn't want to make it sound generic so they mixed it up. However, I absolutely love lyrics "Hurt ones can't stand seeing others in pain..." It's a bit dark and depressing which if they went with music that matches the lyrics, it would sound very much like last year. I recon tweaks in the live performance can iron out the kinks in the music. Greece to me has been youthful but not totally immature. I prefer this to the other 'mid' entries so 7.5/10.

I am not going to lie - I know this song is getting a lot of hate online and the Eurovision fandom isn't super into it - but it sounds vaguely like a modern Christian pop song and I kind of like that. I agree with you that it should have stayed acoustic - which would have reinforced that 'worship song' vibe. I love that you referenced James Bay because I thought the same thing. I think this is impressive for a 16 year old but I don't know if it will qualify? I think he got a super lucky with his running order and the other countries voting in his semifinal (UK, Australia) to the point where he could probably still qualify. We will have to see.

Totally agree with you, just wanted to add something. Although I do believe that UK and Australia are somewhat more familiar to songs like this one and might give some points to it, I think that Victor got really lucky in getting ALL the main point givers of Greece in one semi. Of course Cyprus is a Tier 1, and then Albania, Armenia and San Marino are a close Tier 2. Even Romania usually is a good country to have in the semi..

Some eurofans act like this song killed their first born child, but I think it's fine. I don't necessarily like it, and it's not very competitive, but it's inoffensive at least. Out of the more radio ballad sounding songs this year (even though I wouldn't call this a ballad) I think it's the best one as at least it has some soul to it. The production is a bit clunky though, and I thought the clap bit at the end was quite generic and overused. I hadn't noticed the bass until you pointed out (granted I've listened to this song in full about once) but now that I've noticed it it's all I'm ever going to notice.

I'm quite mixed about this. On the one hand, consider that this kid is 16. He did it all by himself - at that age, I was close to tears after a maths o-level that went horribly wrong, forget writing something so deep and mature-sounding! However, I find it a bit unmemorable, sadly. If Greece didn't have a decent draw in the "weaker" semi, which also has a bunch of allies like Cyprus and his second country, Denmark, I'd say they were in trouble. I don't mind the song at all however, and I wish Nicos all the best for his future. Looks very promising indeed!

Well, looks like I do have beef and criticism for greek delegation 🤣The fact that Greece put into the contest a song written by a 14 years old kid with no professional help is insulting for those who think that in ESC must to compete the best of each country (which rarely happen, tho). And insulting for those who applied for greek internal selection, cause broadcaster had a choice beforehand, as others countries did (Blanka, Reiley). Nothing against the kid, but Greece lost all my respect in Eurovision.

I really wanted to like this, cause the melody is quite nice, and I've been going around unconciously singing on it from time to time. It's about sharing your culture. I see nothing from our culture in this song, so for me it's a big Όχι (No). Sorry eh ? :)
