I was there for this. 16 years later and it still makes me emotional… What a day that was!

No one in stadium including all the performers knew that Bono was going to improvise singing about places in New Orleans , he kept it to himself.

Agreed. I remember watching this live I am feeling. But I had never seen the interview Billie Joe did with Edge on ABC which aired before this. I just went and watch that and it’s incredible interview. It’s about 10 minutes. I’ve always liked both U2 and Green Day. But I never fully appreciated their connection musically and philanthropically. It’s good stuff.

Thanks to The Edge for making this happen. I was there too. This was a pregame Show, (Not Half Time), and about 10 minuets later, Rebirth Happened, Gleason's block kick.... the rest was history. Still makes me cry.....

this was part of the pregame, not halftime. the saints were literally coming. everyone watching had goosebumps like you wouldnt believe

This was pregame. Perhaps you mixed it up bc its the same building (4 years prior) where U2 played the greatest (in my humble opinion) Super Bowl halftime show right after 9/11. There may have been more musically exciting shows over the years(Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, etc. were all fantastic.). But when considering the 9/11 factor with the names scrolling down behind them and Bono opening his jacket with American flag, it is second to none spiritually/emotional. It still gives me goosebumps.

There is a house in New Orleans, they call the Rising Sun It's been the ruin of many a poor boy, and God, I know I'm one I cried to my daddy on the telephone, how long now? Until the clouds unroll and you come home, the line went But the shadows still remain since your descent, your descent I cried to my daddy on the telephone, how long now? Until the clouds unroll and you come home, the line went But the shadows still remain since your descent, your descent The saints are coming, the saints are coming I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply The saints are coming, the saints are coming I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply A drowning sorrow floods the deepest grief, how long now? Until the weather change condemns belief, how long now? When the night watchman lets in the thief What's wrong now? Ho, hey The saints are coming, the saints are coming I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply The saints are coming, the saints are coming I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply
