Songs like these when tuned down makes them powerful and honestly with this it makes it sadder

I think Whatsername is already at the very limit of Billie's vocal range, if you listen to live performances he kinda struggles with singing this song and I think that's why his voice sounds so weird here cause I don't think he's ever been this low on any other song (I'm not an expert so I might be completely wrong about his range)

This song is also painful for him to sing, like you can literally see how lifeless he looks when preforming it, which I think also messes with the vocal range

Storyteller's performance is the only flawless rendition of Whatsername.

His vocal range isn't the issue with the song. Whatsername is a very hard song for him to sing live because of what I assume to be personal business, considering it's literally about his ex. Songs like 21 Guns are much higher and he can do those no problem.

@@Potato-yd3hv i didn’t think it was an issue at the high end of the vocal range but rather the low end. I get the idea that the song is difficult for him to sing in an emotional sense and that it could somewhat effect the performance, but my opinion is that certain parts of whatsername require him to sing lower than he’s capable and that’s where I hear the struggle when I listen to live versions of the song.

@@CloudInfluence You may have a point, but it's not like it's he's singing in 2nd octave. I think the lowest note that he sings is a C#3 (which is still doable for tenors, albeit on the lower end), and I think Billie straddles the line between baritone and tenor.
