I am from and grew up in the Deep South (Florida, USA). Spanish moss is a very important part of my childhood. Currently I am in Tennessee, USA and am growing it as a houseplsnt. Spanish moss is my favorite of all plants. It is very romantic, it is useful, and it brings back some enchanting childhood memories for me.

Lol Florida is not the deep south. Deep south is a cultural term, not geographical. But I'm from Florida too, lived in savannah for a bit, and I totally agree - spanish moss is such a part of your life. You can't avoid it. I hung some in my shower for a couple months and sprayed it and it stayed beautiful and green. Eventually I got grossed out lol.

@@carolinebarley It was my understanding that there are some places and parts of Florida that are considered deep south, and that’s what I thought she was referring to. At any rate, I think Spanish Moss is gorgeous, and I’m more of a coastal person.

I grew up in Florida and Georgia and never once saw an ant in in. However, it can have a microscopic insect called a red bug or chigger living in it. They are awful things that burrow under the skin and itch like crazy. I would collect it on occasion to put around pots in a house, but always put it in a plastic bag and sprayed it with an indoor insecticide, leaving it for a few hours before using. Never had a problem then. I moved to Seattle in 1996 and always missed Spanish moss. I was so excited to find it in my local nursery recently and now have it happily living on the side of my plant stand by my sliding glass door, where it sways gently in the breeze.
