I bought one of these from the pet store I work at (we often take our work home with us lol) I totally didn't plan on getting another lizard but after watching him everyday he really grew on me. I'm really glad I bought him when I did, because after that they were never available again from the vendors we order from. And I've never seen them anywhere else! I feel so fortunate to have this friendly little guy!

There are SO few resources for this lizard, and I'm genuinely shocked they aren't more popular. I got a baby a few days ago and I'm absolutely in love. One question, how much do you think is appropriate to feed a baby? I've been feeding just a single one of the smallest crickets I have access to (1/4") every day, but I can't find any info about babies really.
@PetsinaPawd
4 жыл бұрын
You can feed them much more! They're pretty hungry as babies and need the nutrition to get growing. I'd reccomend feeding your baby as much as it will eat in 15 minutes every other day

Do screen or wooden enclosures work for these guys or only glass? Also do you know some good online care guides by any chance? Unfortunately not a lot of information out there :( Also amazing video! Possibly the best on gastrophis prasina I've seen so far!
@PetsinaPawd

Glass, wood, or pvc would all work. I wouldn't recommend screen as they don't hold humidity at all. I also don't have any care guides in mind. I was struggling with finding information in the beginning too which is why I made this video!

Keelies is also what I affectionately call them, as well as their scientific name :) The fact they aren't more popular is really confusing, I'm all about them now! Theyre friendly and interactive! Mine loves to be stroked, hang out with me outside his enclosure, he's always looking for things to explore and loves to eat! My buddy gets roaches, mealworms, darkling beetles, crickets, silkworms, and the once or twice a month snack of a bit of banana or cgd :) I have seen people feed them a bit of blueberry as well!

Great video! My guy loves roaches and crickets too as well as silk worms, mealworms, waxworms. I do offer CGD too and some kinds of fruits, kiwi definitely is appreciated and he will eat veggies too. Pretty much anything I put in the tank, he eats. My vivarium happens to be exactly the same dimensions as yours, would you stick to a pairing in that size or would 2 females and 1 male be ok? The vivarium is absolutely full of branches plants and cork tubes so there's lots of climbing space.

Thank you so much for making this video! I have a 4x2x2 foot arboreal enclosure that I want to use for these guys, but there is so little information out there, whether about them in captivity or in the wild. This is very helpful, as I've been trying to gather as much information as possible about them. If you don't mind answering a question I'd appreciate it. Mainly, I'm curious how plant-destructive they are. I have a couple of medium-sized orchids in my vivarium, but I could move them if necessary.
@PetsinaPawd
4 жыл бұрын
They're actually not very plant destructive! They're very lightweight lizards and mainly grip with their fingers vs. nails. I do notice that the pothos sometimes get VERY tiny cuts but the plants heal up themselves and I havent had them kill a plant yet! I think the only way they'd kill a plant is if the leaves were too weak to hold their weight, and thus fall off.

Of course! I'll link you my favorite enclosure brand (I have a video reviewing them). They do make a 18x18x36 but it is currently out of stock. You can wait for restock but they do have a cage with similar dimensions available and actually provides more room! amzn.to/2GYeCiS Zoomed also sells 18x18x36 but you might have to find that locally. I'm not a fan of mercury vapor bulbs in general so I'd recommend two separate bulbs. You'd also be able to get more precise temp and uv by going separate.

I have the zoomed 18x18x36 paludarium and I was wondering if you have a suggestion for an arboreal lizard that resembles a monitor like this lizard but is larger and more handleable
@PetsinaPawd
4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don't have anything in mind! Sadly, anything bigger than these guys would also need a bigger tank at which a 18x18x36 would be too small. Even the smallest of monitors would need something triple the size. The only animal I can think of for that is a Leachianus Gecko, which I keep mine in. Theyre a pretty large sized gecko but don't look much like a monitor unfortunetly and aren't the handling type. I'm sorry I can't be of help! To my knowledge nothing exists by what you describe.

Love the video! I got a prasina a few months ago and I don't want to hold it, I'm okay with holding reptiles, I just don't want to stress it. My nephew recently came over and he wants to hold it. I'm afraid it will bite him and then he'll throw it onto the ground, or it will run. May I have advice please? Thank you!
@PetsinaPawd
4 жыл бұрын
I will say if you haven't practiced handling your lizard consistently yet, it's not going to be easy to pick up and hand off to someone else. They can become easily handle-able but it does take practice. For example feeding them on your hand with tongs, and letting them come out and hang out on your arm without you grabbing at them. Even with practice they don't enjoy being held tightly, but moreso coming out and being on your hand on their own terms. I hope that helps! But again, I wouldn't allow anyone else to try holding your lizard without you getting a hang of it first.
