I can say I have never gone digging anywhere in my life that I didn't fill in my holes. It's a respectful habit that I wish more people had. Your finds are beautiful. I absolutely love the pet wood that has been agatized.

This makes me so happy to hear. It's great that you fill your holes. It just broke my heart to see how torn up that place was, kinda took me out of the mood to hunt, sadly. I'm glad that I found some yummy wood, but the next time I go there I'll probably just be on a mission to fill holes. Thanks for watching!

Thank you, Michelle! The travels are always fun and super easy on the eyes, that forest was incredible. That's what made the destruction so starkly contrasted. It is a privilage to be able to dig and our opportunity to lose if we don't take care. Thanks for coming along, as always, on the adventures and here's to more in the new year!

The green wood really is the prize you go there for. But I'm surprised at some of the other material. A friend showed me some incredible jasper from there and I'm usually just walking over the top of that sort of thing when there's something as special as green wood to find. Next time we go, I'm hoping to have enough time to really slow down and look in some places that are off the beaten and dug up path. Thanks for watching and cheers!

Thanks for sharing your adventure out to Hampton Butte. Couldn't agree with the commentary more. It was devastating to see firsthand what had happened out there. TBH, the scale of the destruction was not done by the hobby folks. There are folks going after that material as if it was their private property and its all about commercialism for them. Thanks again for the post. Hope you have a nice new years holiday!

Thanks, Shaughn! I agree that there are a lot of folks who go out there to dig for commercial reasons and don't really care to leave the site in good shape. I'm hoping that the campers and hobby folk may be able to sway the over all approach to digging there; just fill it in after. Thanks for watching and hope you have a great new years as well! Cheers!

It's such a lovely place, excepting the moon surface! In order to find the good stuff, you have to dig there. I'm sure you guys would love it if you went again, especially knowing to look for the great wood and some pretty fine jaspers too. I'm hoping to return in the spring to fill some holes and maybe dig a few lucky ones. Cheers!

Hiya Karen, that's a very beautiful place, too bad people don't take care of the land like the way they should. I've seen people dig really deep holes, and then just pick up what they want, and leave trash and other pieces of garbage. It's really disturbing how people take care of this beautiful blue marble we live on, but that's not how I was raised. I really enjoyed watching your video, awesome pieces of Petrified Wood, You found some beautiful stones. I hope you and yours have a awesome blessed day, and have a Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 and a Happy New Year. 😊 🎆 Cya! 😺🐟out!

Hey Catfish, it is an incredible place if you ever get a chance to come out this way, worth a visit! I agree, I really wish folks would be more respectful. I think I would have hounded harder if I wasn't so taken aback by the disaster scene that it was. It didn't feel right. That being said, I'm so pleased with the pieces that we did find. I can't wait to polish some to see how they do. Thanks again for watching and a very merry xmas and happy new year to you too!

Hi Karen, well if that is what some people have been casting aside it makes the mind race at the quality of the material that they did find. Those pieces that you have shown us cut are quite astonishing. Another good video and some remarkable content. I totally agree with you in regard to filling in a couple of the holes that are left behind, it’s not that hard when the disturbed soil is fresh to push or rake it back in the hole either. That is not a good advertisement for the hobby leaving the land like that, hopefully those now in the hobby are a little better at land care. Wishing you a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you and your family. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin

Heya, those were the throw aways except for the piece I dug at the end and perhaps the green one I cut with all the lovely striations of wood and inclusions of the casting. So yes, there's incredible stuff out there that you can only get if you dig. Therein lies the problem. I had trouble digging in because I was pretty disturbed by the whole destruction of the place. You're right, it's not a good advertisement and a really embarrassing way to leave a place that you otherwise love for what you get from it. I'm hoping to go again and I'd like to dig but I'll be filling more holes than diggin for sure. Happy xmas and a glorious new year to you! Cheers!

Yes, I'd love to ask the trees their opinion. It could very well have been the nuttiest thing they've seen in the 1000 or so years they've been hanging around. You should definitely visit Hampton when you get a chance to visit the west. I did dig a couple of small holes, that's how I found the big piece at the end. You don't need a permit and really have to dig to find anything substantial from what I understand. Big pieces come with much work/diggin, the green is worth that work, so special. We didn't really have much time there as we were on a longer hound trip with many more destinations. Next time hope for more, thanks for watching!

Awesome, Karen! I’m completely on page with your thoughts! The place is mesmerizing! To be in the same place as a seedling from 1,000 yrs ago 🤯🤩🤩. At the same time, I see sadness. The land is awful and has been completely disrespected. Why doesn’t the BLM or whoever, come and fill and level the areas ground for new growth or restoration? Put up signs to fill the holes when they are done! Seems much overdue. Your finds were outstanding 😳🥳🤩 Thanks for sharing! Stay Crystal 💫

Hey Maribeth! This place really is magical and a location I'd love go to again soon. The old growth forest is totally humbling, these trees are gnarled with time and majestic. I'm afraid instead of the BLM filling the holes, they'd be more inclined to closing the site. I hope folks will reverse the damage before that happens. Meanwhile, the wood and jasper is so incredible from there I can't wait to get to some polishing. I *almost made the 15 minute mark...I was trying...and of course we don't want to get bored either! Thanks again for watching and wishing you wonderful holidays!

I really enjoyed Hampton Butte. However, I cannot imagine it won't get shut down by BLM. There was not a stone unturned and I saw numerous ancient trees that had the roots exposed because they had been dug up by ""rock hounds". It was really disappointing. BLM should rightfully shut it down due to the complete disregard for those ancient trees.

Yeah, it was pretty shocking to see how torn up the place was. I think we can all do better than that for the forest. Don't have to stop collecting, just as Greg said, leave it better than when you arrived.
