Thanks for another informative video! What will you be growing in the greenhouse over autumn / winter? How will you plan that season in the greenhouse? Thank you!

Thank you! Our greenhouse is quite shady so not our main winter growing area - but it will contain our overflow broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, asian greens and snow peas. We also use it to overwinter all our cold-sensitive plants. I'm not a huge planner - I tend to just go with the flow of the season and what seedlings I have on hand that are bursting out of their pots and need planting 😅💚

Very informative videos thank you. Have a few more varieties of seeds to add to my vast collection from your previous videos too. Just wondering which company you bought your greenhouse from and have you been happy with it?

Thanks Helen, glad the tutorial was helpful! We bought our greenhouse from Sproutwell Greenhouses. After comparing every brand on the market this came out on top for quality, durability and customisation. Very happy with it, has withstood many a Melbourne hailstorm and galeforce winds. You definitely get what you pay for with greenhouses 💚

I'm just starting out & get overwhelmed with where to begin & just how much of an area to start with on my 1000 sq block, I guess my concern is going nuts & then not being able to keep up with it! On a plot of your size, roughly how many hours on average per week is spent maintaining your garden? Though obviously it varies somewhat throughout the seasons. 🌱🌻

Is the cladding over framework glass or perspex.

I’m based in Melbourne and have a sproutwell greenhouse. What do you grow in autumn and winter in the greenhouse?

Our greenhouse is quite shady so not our main winter growing area - but it will contain our overflow broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, asian greens and snow peas. We also use it to overwinter all our cold-sensitive plants such as turmeric, chilli, galangal and stevia. We will use it mid-winter to start our spring/summer seedlings on our shelves and get a head start on summer 💚

What brand size type of greenhouse is it. What is the base? Concrete? Wood? Grass?
@MelbourneFoodforest
Жыл бұрын
Hi Sonya, thanks for the questions. We will do a separate video on how we chose and constructed our greenhouse. It's a polycarbonate greenhouse from Sproutwell. The base is unique as I wanted to use recycled but long-lasting materials, so we built a base of recycled bricks. 💚

What is the dimension of your greenhouse? We’re considering getting a greenhouse too. It started off bitterly cold and wet in melbourne, which definitely added to some hardships at least in my small garden early season.
@MelbourneFoodforest

Hi Ben our greenhouse is 5m x 2m. Go for the largest you can fit in your garden as it's never quite big enough! And yes extremely challenging conditions in Melbourne this year - cold for the first half of spring and summer and then ridiculously humid, and super dry as well. Not many decent rains. The greenhouse is really valuable in smoothing these irregular weather patterns, and might become more and more valuable over time as our climate becomes more erratic 💚

Thank you for your informative video. I am keen to see how you cool the greenhouse in summers? By the way, did you make the greenhouse by a kit, or did you design and build it on your own?
@MelbourneFoodforest

Thank you very much Yashar! I will have a separate video on cooling the greenhouse in summer. We built it ourselves and our greenhouse came as a kit from Sproutwell greenhouses 💚
