Steve Gadd’s second video was $60. Lotta money in the 80’s

And so we should pay good money for this gold! I used to rent these vids from my local library as a kid because we were poor. But man did I savour these vids and watch over and over again. I feel a bit sorry for kids these days with so much content to scour through, much of which is not great, lots of which is amazing. I’m not sure who had it best really. Hopefully some young players stumble across this gem and watch it over and over 😄

Such a wonderful guy. I was teaching at Richmond Music Center in the 2000s and he did a clinic there. He was warming up in my studio and I talked with him for 30 minutes or so. After the clinic he gave me his bass drum head off the kit, with his face on it, and signed it. Such an awesome guy and drummer. Will never forget.

Gregg absolutely smoked on the first 3 David Lee Roth albums! There was no backing band as tight as the Eat 'Em & Smile era with Gregg on drums, Billy Sheehan on bass, Steve Vai on guitar and Brett Tuggle on keyboards. They gave DLR's solo career the kick in the ass it sorely needed!

Good composers borrow, great composers steal 35 years later and I still remember that like it was yesterday! I miss the 80s. Life seemed so much more real. All my memories are from the 80s. Around 92 was the last year I have any real recollection of. I remember this video so clearly, but have no idea what's happened since 2000. 25 years of confusion and little meaning Sorry for the life story. Greg rocks!

Even at this relatively young age, Greg was a monster player. Interesting to note, the opening solos pieces, at least to my ear, seemed stronly influenced by Copeland and Bozio. I'm not saying anything against Greg. Those were his pieces and composed and executed brilliently. It was just the drummer zygiest of that moment.

Sadly, the hair is among the reasons I didn't give him a second thought back when he was with DLR. Don't let it rob you of this incredible display from one of the most talented musicians out there. It has me re-evaluating my entire 56yrs. Lol
