The first professional band so ever saw perform live was Cameo. It was on Easter Sunday, March 26, 1978 at the Omni in Atlanta. I was 13 years old. Parliament was the headliner, the Bar-Kays, were the special guest and Cameo was the opening act. I remember Gregory Johnson coming on stage and putting on his trademark top hat. To me “the Cameo Sound” was Gregory Johnson’s quirky keyboard sound. I was still a fan after he left but the void was felt.

Gregory "Doc" Johnson, the voice of funk funk...the top hat 🎩...the cape..."it's a crazy place." The wind has forever been at my back and Cameosis forever in my heart...Gregory B will always be Cameo, no matter what and those fellas mean so much to me...trying to ask a Cameo member or even a die hard Cameo junkie, that I proudly profess to be, what is their favorite Cameo song is like asking Bruce Bruce what is favorite meal, lol... But hey, ask me and I will tell you my five favorite all time Cameo jams are, in order: 1. You're A Winner 2. I Owe It All To You 3. Smile 4. Two Of Us 5. Attack Me With Your Love And the MOST underrated of em all, to me anyway is... STILL FEELS GOOD TO ME Now someone tell me I ain't a TRUE Cameo fan! Owww and ah-ah-ooh! ✌

Great indeed, brother Jenkins, I have respected your place in the music space since Rigor Mortis dropped, saw the 14 pc in college in 1980 at UConn, then at the Agora in the ATL in 1982, while living there. Bernard wright.5..patrice Rushen..and the keyboard player from the ...bring crazy funk.....what people don't realize about funk 🎹 is that you have to be eloquent on the keys and gritty..... ...I love Herbie Hancock and Bernie from parliament but they have the April curse like me I'm funky on keys but stiff....Jimmy jam is stiff on the keyboards...the brotha on keys from the group chic was funky and eloquently raw like my favorites....if I was going to make a band I would go George duke keyboards....wah wah Watson guitar 🎸...Lenny white drums....Marcus Miller bass...Shelia - e and butch Haynes percussion...tower 🗼 of power horns..and put maceo.. parker with them.....then I'm a go love unlimited orchestra strings...vocals Cheryl Lynn.....teddy pendergrass.....wlder from heatwave...and Patti LaBelle....the producers .. gamble and huff........👍

UE, FM, AW - 3 of my Faves! WAKWWA being the 4th. 31:24 - 31:54 really sums it up. What most of the younger gen would find hard to understand because of the advancement of recording sound. Back then young people, we played our instruments, combined with what was technologically superior at that time. Imagine this if you can. Back then, a real good aural recording would be what is equivalent to going from Standard Def to 4K Res....in our case it was aurally. That's when you knew people could really play...and play well. And Greg, you're right about "Rigor Mortis" - that truly set it off. It was the Band's playing combined with a good Sound Engineer....imo.

More Cameo core members in FOC than in Cameo. Change is inevitable. Members come and go over time. For me, I don’t pay money to see a group with only 1 or 2 original members or guys that actually performed on the hits. At some point, after so many key players leave, it’s. Different band.
