Just to clear it up, pro's on the track will usually use standard clipless pedals with cleats, most of the time with overshoes for aero reasons. However, because of the massive power some of these sprinters put out they often wear clipless pedals and cleats, overshoes, and then toe clips with straps to stop them ripping their feet out of the pedals mid sprint.

The only time I've experienced anything near this kind of recovery from what should have been a certain crash was when I was in a fairly slow corner and slipped on a patch of ice, my wheels lost traction and my bike instantly slid out from under me. Before I hit the cold hard ground the ice patch ended, both tires grabbed the road simultaneously and I happened to have just the right amount of momentum to bring me upright again. With a big wobble I managed to stay on the bike and continue on my way. It was a bit undignified and way more luck than skill but I was happy to freakishly escape a wipeout

@fergcyclesuk Definitely not. He stayed outside of the sprinter's lane, which is his duty in that situation. If you go over the video at 1:37-1:38, you can clearly see Sireau's front wheel exit the lane, he hits Bauge and loses control, and then smacks him again as he falls. Just a racing incident, but it's all Sireau.

Look like a bad fall but I've unfortunately had worse. I fell longboarding going 35mph, not as fast but I fell on to a very course road. The skin of my knee still doesn't have feeling. The last thing it felt was shearing pain that escalated to what I can imagine flames, it got really really hot but then as fast as it came on it was gone, presumably because I fried the nerves off. My knee directly after the fall was white and literally melted. Dripping. Now it is a small indent of scar tissue.

please respond to someone that commented on your comment so you can see why you're wrong and learn from it and post more intelligent comments in the future. First of all they are probably going 40mph. AND it is a fixed gear so to be conscious and keep pedaling after nearly being taken down is an accomplishment that - it is quite clearly safe to say - you will never experience, but can hopefully better understand and appreciate now.
