Not all rabbits are like this. Just most of them. It's like saying "All cats hate water". Obviously some cats are not like that. @111239467349280173082 that rabbit is NOT playing with the water !!! Firstly, id say its been sitting in the tub for sometime, as you can see it tried to jump out but the surface is too slippery for him to get a grip. Secondly, the rabbit was trying to get the water off his ears and face - hence the paws starting in a prayer like state and going toward his head, but each time he started to clean himself more water was coming, making him in a state of confusion... someone should probably point out that the rabbit wasn't wet until it slipped. and then after it got wet it had two options, to run from the water or to stay there. it chose the second. It had the option to touch the water and it took it. the person was not setting it down in a puddle or pouring water on its head. it chose. ta-da.

Yes, the person didn't do anything to bad at that point. But the bunny had water in it's nose due to the fall and tried to get it out. And was confused were to go... not a sign that it loves the water since it did not willingly get under the water again. It just sat beside it and accidentally put its paws in it again, while trying to clean the nose.

Yeah, it is not in the nose, since the bun is not sneezing. But it has a wet nose and tries to clean or dry it. At 0:39 it puts its nose directly under the water again, because it does not understand or sees the water jet (bunnies are short sighted). And something I noticed from my own bunnies a few days ago (at why it doesn't move away): my bunny misstepped while jumping on their house. he fell down (just a few cm) and he stayed there too instead of trying again or going somewhere else. It is a little shock moment when they fall and they stop moving around so they don't show weakness (that is a survival instinct against potential predators) and probably don't understand why they fell and won't risk it again. Bunnies are very clean animals. That means they hate it when something is different in their fur. This includes also being wet. When mine get wet somehow they always dry it immediately... so no, bunnies don't enjoy water in their fur.

can we all just agree that some rabbits don't like getting wet, and some do? and that all living things can have different preferences? and _no one_ should assume to immediately know everything about their pet? efit: 2 years later and once again folks starting internet drama bc they're bored in quarantine. here's some clarity: remember how I said "no one should assume everything about their pet"? as in you shouldn't assume _anything_ about your pet. you should be doing research and when presenting experimental choices like this do it in a way that is safe and healthy for the animal. No one should be dunking their animal in water or pouring it on them unless they need it for their health, like ferrets (that need medicated baths for their skin and ears!) and reptiles (for stuck shed.)

I'm just going to not wash my bunny then, since these animal activist RIOT over simple things. Two things to consider here folks. 1. The rabbit jumped out of the tub and tried to get out. The owner should've stepped in and removed it. That's completely plausible. 2. The rabbit literally HOPPED over to water, it made a decision of it's own free will to move in that direction towards the source of the problem. 3. Simply because a rabbit is dosmestic doesn't mean it does not possess the same instincts, the same wild streak as their outdoor cousins. There are breeds of rabbits with thicker fur coats that CAN handle water. 4. This would be different if the rabbit was completely submerged in water. It only got water on a bit of it's face. It's not going to die right then and there people. This is not animal abuse, this is people being not properly trained on how to handle their pets. Animal abuse is watching chickens getting their beaks torn off and necks stepped on. Horses getting their hooves chopped off for gelatin production, seals being shot or clubbed for their skin/fur. Rhino's being shot for their horns. That's animal abuse people. This is just an example of an owner who lacks actual rabbit education and needs to read up on guides on how to properly handle a rabbit. That's all. Stop screaming abuse at everything if you don't know the meaning of the word.

Sometimes yeah it is necessary to give your rabbit a bath. Sometimes they just get filthy if they play outside or got poo on their bums or something. lol The part that kills the rabbits is after the bath, where the owner doesn't properly dry them, leading to shock thus death. Rabbit fur is designed to repel water as best as it can. And you really aren't supposed to bathe them, however it's not something that is considered abuse. It'd be more abusive to just let him sit in his own shit than to help him get clean again. Just be sure to dry him/her thoroughly.

Why exactly would a bunny enjoy water in their fur? From a biological point of view? Wet fur makes their body temperature go down. Wild rabbits have a special coat that keeps water mostly out. They always clean their fur if something unusual is in there. Also if it is wet. It is dangerous for them to get water in their ears, water in their noses is also very uncomfortable. And excuse me for knowing a few things about house bunnies and wild rabbits, since I own those pets since over 20 years and are actively interested in animals and their behaviour and don't take my knowledge from humanized "cute" animal videos... if your bunny ignores the rain, fine, but I am sure it just loves to run outside no matter if its rainy or sunny. Just make sure it gets dried and warm afterwards. Or maybe don't let it soak completely if you don't want it to get sick.

When I hear people talking about how rabbits should never ever be wet I laugh. Why? Because rabbits have lived in the wild for a long time. Do you really think that a little water is going to kill them? While its true you should bathe your rabbits often (Only when necessary and dont put them in much water). Getting wet is not going to kill them if they are not overly stressed. I've owned a rabbit who on his rare bath days would start rolling in the water, and if you took him out of the bath and set him down he would immediately jump back in. He is a rare exception to rabbits liking water. But is he dead? no. Five years old and he is still so healthy and gets annual vet checks even. Just because you love animals doesnt mean you are an expert -_-
@Widdekuu91
9 жыл бұрын
They shouldn't get wet because they get very cold easily. Most people just 'let them dry' (or start blowdrying and cause burningwounds) You can't leave a wet bunny in it's cage to dry. Also, they wash themselves, so they can only be washed when absolutely neccessary. You compare this to the wild. Humans were living in the wild as well. Sure, several died every day, but some survived. Do you think a human, nowadays, could say the same? Hairless, beard-less with thin skin and very little instinct? I think they'd get infections and die within 3 days. (And don't start on 'Naked and Afraid' because when those people are on the verge of dying, they get help.) So you can't compare these bunnies to bunnies with bigger coats and experience in the wild-life. Also, your rabbit is 5 years old. Mine was 14 when he died. Just because you didn't kill your animal, doesn't mean you're an expert either.
@hroberts127
9 жыл бұрын
Yes I know that. However I also have worked with vets, studied veterinary medicine as well. I think you are misreading what I am saying as "its ok to get your rabbits wet" what Im saying is its not going to kill them to get them wet so long as you are responsible about it. Everything about pet ownership is responsibility and knowing the safest way to handle a situation. What Im laughing about is literally the people who say that you cannot get a drop of water on your rabbit or else it will stress them out and die.

OMG, how dare you get a bunny wet, didn't you know that rain drops detour just to avoid making rabbits wet. Seriously, sometimes rabbits have to be washed. I had a rabbit who water bottle sprung a leak two weeks ago and the resulting mess was nasty, so into the bath he went. Granted I washed him in a little basin so he wouldn't get hurt in case he jumped. Turns out he loved the water and didn't want to get out. As far as concerns of hypothermia, he got to snuggle in a fluffy warm towel until he was dry, and just to get everyone even more riled up, I live in interior Alaska and it was -40 out! chkngrl incorrect, sometimes? i had a rabbit and i never needed to and smelled better then clean cats did. never ever did i wash mine and yes i did truly checked and watched and smelled and observed and thought to see if he could use a bath and not once did i need to put him in that stress. a wild rabbit doesn't not wash for reasons. they are cleanest of all house pets. so a water bottle broke and got water on your rabbit so u put more water on him? why didn't you towel dry the water off from the water bottle? you don't merely towel dry a rabbit. the fur STAYS damp for hours. don't say it don't because i had one and he had long hair like this one in the video-you don't merely towel dry a wet rabbit-i had to use a dryer and a comb and it took HOURS. i saw how distressed he was from being handled and dried and damp after being in the water i had to hel speed up the process and he shunned me the next two days-if your wet from the water and you go outside or out the bathroom its cold right? but you can dry off quickly, newsflash the rabbit can't and then has to feel and brush of air as cold wind. so off topic here. mine recently passed at 9 years old from cancer but to make a point i am grieving hard and was mad at myself and kept asking the vet about possible what ifs and he who is rabbit savvy told me specifically again that i did a good job and i wish more rabbit owners would do so good for there rabbits as i have. he also said in person that he doesn't get older rabbits in often-at all. it was sad to have known that he was grateful to treat my 9 year old bunny. he says people just don't care-and this video and these responses and the lack of the (at least-atleast!!!) acknowledgement-mere acknowledgment of the bunnys distress is a reason why they don't/won't live long. because who cares if the bunny doesn't like it-he won't melt so lets make him do stuff he would rather not anyways. because its not their opinion that matters-its the persons. But God forbid we are put into some situation we don't like (cold water prank, etc) bunnies just don't stress the way we do-they can die from mere shell shock-it is important and it is enough said.

Videos about rabbits swimming, specifically pet rabbits tend to fare somewhat better in terms of feedback when the video was posted no later than the year 2014. Take this video for instance. The comments with the most likes tend to be the ones pointing out that no, not every rabbit hates swimming and that it is ridiculous to assume getting wet will kill or terrorize them 100% of the time. As videos of swimming rabbits have become more recent however, the opposite can be found. You are more likely to find *triggered* and I don't mean clinically triggered or PTSD related people the more recent you get. Older comments tend to exhibit less of this frenzy whereas putting these sorts of videos by order of newest comment first shows otherwise.

Rabbits are fine with an occasional bath. I have 2 bonded males-- a Netherlands Dwarf and a Holland Lop; both are white. Occasionally one of them has a potty incident and pees on loose hay instead of in their litter box and they get smelly feet and tummies. If they can't get the stink off by cleaning themselves in a day or two, into the kitchen sink they go! Both of mine like getting their feet wet, and in the 8 months I've had them, they've only needed cleaning assistance twice (the first time was after a digestive incident shortly after we got them). Vet has confirmed it's fine so long as we avoid their heads and ears, and ensure they are mostly dry before putting them back in their cage. Mine love the hair dryer set to low heat and do bunny binky jumps running back and forth under the air flow! Our cages are kept clean without bedding-- our rabbits would kick it into a corner and avoid the area when we offered it. They prefer a soft towel to snuggle together on, or they hang out in their litter box on the recycled paper pellets. For our two small rabbits (neither is more than 4 pounds), they are in a 2 level custom cage, 28x42x28 with a hidey house (used as a stair to the 2nd level), litter box, hay cage, and toys! The cage is on wheels so the pair spend most of their time out on our balcony to free roam during the day, and are closed in their cage at night. During colder nights/months they are brought indoors. They don't like being indoors because it's too warm and quiet, plus it's not possible to bunny proof any of our rooms, so they don't get as much exercise. Whoever says bunnies are meant to stay indoors clearly needs to acknowledge the fact that rabbits are wild creatures (even the domesticated ones) and can survive and thrive either indoors or outdoors if properly acclimated. Every bunny is unique and potentially has different preferences than the next.

D Heckathorn If someone cannot or does not want to or feel they should not have to rabbit proof a house for a rabbit then they don't deserve the rabbit inside. rabbits are wild indeed and ugh FREE? in the wild! a caged rabbit does not live a quality life style verses a rabbit like mine who had the whole house to himself. i would leave for hours and come back and he would be in his favorite spot because he didn't care about anything but getting more and more love and attention from me. so he was a good rabbit through good training and good love. and i enjoyed him more as well. outdoor CAGED rabbits can die from illnesses and other wild animals trying to get in and the rabbit may not bUT CAN die from shock from an attempted attack and the stress it brings. when u read a rabbits language and 1,000% cannot see any distress then you don't have a common personality. it is common and very common for rabbits NOT to like it. Im very well read into rabbits and read them very well and see this one would rather be petted. sometimes butt baths are required but then again if your feeding the animal proper foods and rations they will not have diarrhea. My vet told me to ease my guilt and pain for my 9 year old rabbit that he doesn't get old rabbits in a lot. why would he say that? he also looked looked forward to the biopsy since he had cancer to further his experiance (very good vet too very experienced in rabbits in general and very trust worthy) i had them for the entree time and i needed to know how bad the cancer was (off topic but important) to have a vet respectfully remind me that i did a very good job with my bunny was said for reasons, a vet would just lie or do they? experienced ones won't. my rabbit stopped and "occasional" bath and he was fine-when his butt got bad occasionally-i wiped him of and did some trimming and set him free and mUCH better and much EASIER-and TIME was saved and I didn't have wet towels to dry/clean because wet fur flew as well as pee from him being stressed out. he like the hair dryer but not worth the stress. he was done and over it 30 minutes into it all and wanted to to go to his cage where he was most comfortable-his cage had a 24/7 open door-he hung out in there or just littered in there-but that was his safe sot from me and his option. i would not force an animal to be in a cage when they are indeed trainable to behave the way they should. it doesn't much-but when they are they are and you don't worry about it anymore. If you read books and was informed-rabbits should not and do not need baths. not even occasionally. they shouldn't be caged and they should be outdoors. i can never believe someone when they say as if they were a rabbit that rabbits like to locked up especially out doors. because an occasional human likes to be locked up---and outdoors locked up. get outta here

Everyone is saying rabbits should never get wet, but I think a lot of people are forgetting something: rabbits dont hibernate in winter. When they forage for food they go out in the snow. When they return to their dens, they still have snow on them, and what does snow turn into when it melts? WATER!!! Who says this bunny isnt dirty and desperately needs a bath anyway? Relax people...

I had a rabbit who lived outside in our backyard with some fences, he got wet many times but went to hide under a dry spot most of the times after a while. He died when he was around 8 years old, not from being wet. He also loved snow. But I never saw him fully wet tho

I trained my bunny to drink from a waterbottle because he injured his leg so the vet said i had to make sure the splint didn't get wet, so that was the Vets Advice to get him to drink from a waterbottle, his foot is Fully Heald, however I like not having the bowl in his Enclosure because before he would jump into the water bowl with front paws first, making a huge mess of water, so I'm letting my bunny drink from his bottle aswell as I got him another called a water Dispenser so it's like a bowl, but the water flows down every time he takes a drink, the water just keeps flowing so I'm Happy I Taught and Potty Trained my Bunny, which makes me Happy not seeing him get wet like before, but Wow my Bunny Loves Water 🧐 so I don't know if that makes him a weird bunny 😊

Just curious. I live right smack in front of some forest literally there is my back yard then forest, Now, forest rabbits are not domesticated, and are not as delicate, or so it seems. Since they are wild bunnies, and the wild is much more harsh than in-doors. Year round I see rabbits in my back yard, and, front yard, and neighbors yard in the "Rain", snow, fog, heat, cold, its only the dead of winter that I see no rabbits. So, tell me, what makes a damn indoor rabbit melt from having water on it and a rabbit outside -- I see them frolicking around in the rain doing w/e???

Different fur: Thicker fur, more layers to fur coat and thicker skin. [Most] bunnies hate being wet, but what you see as a wet bunny may be a dry one if the water never got to the inner layer of fur closest to its skin. If its skin is dry, the bunny is totally cool with rain and whatnot. Also, bunnies are sensitive to catching colds which almost immediately kills them. Wild and outdoor bunnies have stronger immune systems. Kind of like Tarzan has a stronger immune system than you and me.

you can give bunnies a bath but not in hot or cold water do it in warm water don't fill the bath up too much but don't give them a bath often they clean themselves like cats and shouldn't get very dirty. after you give your bunny a bath make shure he/she won't get cold so rap him/her up in a blanket or towel and hold him/her and try to dry him/her and watch TV or do something sitting! I hope I helped! I do have a bunny and I have given him a bath before so I know what I'm talking about! :)

Rabbits dont die when they get wet! They die if you contact them with water so sudden! It seems they scare to death, especially when they dont see it coming. This animal is a natural prey so they are always on alert for predatory attacks and can get scared so easily, you can bath your rabbit but let it try to go into water itself, dont push it.

Rabbits can get wet, contrary to popular belief. Its just that its better to not put them in a bathtub full of water but a small bowl (or big one for big buns), so that their whole body isn't submerged as that could scare them. The point is that rabbits can't get water in their ears as that could lead to infection and should be carefully dried up to avoid hypothermia or shock. Though sometimes its good to get a bunny wet. Like a young bunny when they didn't eat their poop well and their bum is all dirty. But you only clean the bum, not the whole bunny as they do that very well themselves. Another time its good to make a bunny wet is in the summer. I do this thing with my rabbit that we take a clean washcloth and wrap it around a few small blocks of ice then put it by his cage (he's an indoor rabbit.) The ice eventually melts but its a great way to help the fluff ball cool down and he absolutely loves it.

It's true, you shouldn't really bathe your bunnies unless they are extremely dirty or have messy backsides (which can be a sign of a serious underlaying problem with your bun). Rabbits are very naturally clean animals, so need minimal attention save for brushing and checking their claws regularly.

Ems Tube, when a rabbit is "boxing" anything, it means that they are cleaning themselves. My rabbit rapidly moves her arms and then she rubs her face or body. So if you think you can come up in here like you are the boss then you are wrong. Please take your ignorance elsewhere!
