Justin "Tyler" McElroy seems to wildly misunderstand collectibles here and it's honestly pretty friggin funny.

Yeah I'm not sure how the disconnect between "804,000 made" and the much much smaller number of them that are still around today was made.

I'm almost 100% certain that the reason why those coins are worth so much money is because most have been lost to time, have been thrown away, the majority of people who have that coin don't even realize the coin is special or worth any money, etc. Not all 800,000 of those coins are on the market. The reason why they're worth so much money is not just because they're old but also because they're scarce. The coins aren't easy to obtain. They're a scavenger hunt. Beanie Babies are old but they're not hard to obtain, so they aren't worth much money.

So i put this in the description but basically what griffin missed while he was searching for a valuable coin to use in this bit is that there is a defect in a small percentage of these 800k coins called the "spitting horse": a line that looks like it's coming out of the horse's mouth. That version is worth 17k dollars, the rest are not, and coin collectors aren't sure how many have the defect. It's still one of those coins where you might have a super rare coin and you don't know it, you just need to chwck your quarters and see if A) any of them are delaware quarters and B) any of THOSE have a line coming out of the horse's mouth

Justin does have a point though, there is no way all 800k coins are worth that much

@@taakotuesday thank you! No one on earth would spend 13 trillion dollars to collect all these coins. Like, I get it, they're like pokemon; you gotta catch 'em all, but there is no way there's enough numismats for every one of these coins to be worth 16k.

Anyone can upload a MBMBAM clip to KZitem but it takes a real hero to do research for free so we can have cultural and historical context for the bit

Justin is right. Something is wrong here. It's his math. 804,000 multiplied by 17,250 is nowhere near even one trillion. It's 1.3869 times 10^10. About one billion using the so called "short" scale used in the United States. A milliard in the "long scale" more preferred in Europe. Either way that is a thousand thousand. Not the million million he seems to think it is. Mans added a bunch of extra zeros.
