Inflation is insane here, I shop the generic brands and cheapest stores and our bill is still going up. I’ve started buying blocks of cheese and making my own cheese sticks, I’ve also started making my own mini muffins for the kids and putting 3-4 to a tiny baggie and keeping them ready in the pantry. Those two things alone have helped a lot cut down cost!

Abby, I have heard that the new type dishwasher detergents works best if you leave some residue on the dishes. I see that it’s so time consuming for you to clean the dishes BEFORE you put them in the dishwasher so you might try putting them in the dishwasher with just major food removed. Just a suggestion - when hand washing dishes - buy a small plastic tub and fill it with hot soapy water. Put that in one half of your sink and use it to wash your dishes. Then rinse them in clean water all at once instead of continually running water while you wash. It will save money on your water bill.

One other idea with the laundry is having your oldest help you or fold his own laundry and put it away. It could be a chore for a small allowance. I finally had my older girls start doing their own laundry a few years when I felt like I was drowning in it 🤪 My younger boys also help with putting their clothes away! Laundry is exhausting work and it’s one of those chores that even the youngest can help with (matching socks etc).

Yes to the inflation comment! I used to spend $70-$80 on just two of us and now I’m pushing close to $100. I hate it!
