Russia is (well, was) a food and resource exporter (oil, gas, rare metals). Nobody (with a bit of education) expects russians to go hungry or lack basic resources. If they do, it is because of bad management (much like the USSR). The sanction were aimed at military efforts first and foremost. The results are obvious for the second most powerful army in the world (aham...).

Thanks for this update and reality check on food supplies in Russia. I take it that prices in St Petersburg are about the same as in most other parts of Russia. Yes, prices for most groceries are similar to prices here in the UK. Basic items like eggs and potatoes are a lot cheaper than here but some luxury items like superior quality coffee are two or even three times as expensive. (Have been to Russia and I found that you could buy the best potatoes from the babushkas on the street). Your supermarket is well stocked with wholesome food and not a lot of trash. On the whole, it would seem that sanctions have caused much less austerity for Russians than people in the west might suppose. Believe it or not, I have just had an e-mail from the British Red Cross saying they need money to help British citizens who struggle with the cost of living.

You can't sanction a country which is resource rich, like Russia, US, Canada, Indonesia, or Australia. You CAN sanction China, the EU, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan etc., all very dependent on trade or finances. If you are a billionaire yet without food and oil, the country with food and oil can basically charge you anything. Russia is now the biggest wheat exporting country in the world, and they all kinds of oil and gas. America too, but Potato head Joe is a puppet for the Globalists, the guys who scheduled Ukraine war to line the pockets of the food and oil companies, and the defense industries. Why did the US pullout of Afghanistan in such a rush leaving behind $85 billion worth of arms? To arm the Taliban for future conflicts. More conflicts, more money to be made. Macron, Scholtz, Truss/Johnson are also Globalists puppets. You might think what they are doing, supporting the Ukrainus (ur cranium in ur anus) war is stupid, but they are doing exactly as they are told by their Globalist masters, WEF et al.

Russian salary is always tax-free. Taxes are deducted automatically from the employer. But the "average salary" is clearly too high. @@BorodaVictor Viktor, how is the average pension in Russia and at what age do women retire, please?
@BorodaVictor
Жыл бұрын
@@kavka123 Previously, the retirement age was 55 for women and 60 for men. In 2018, a new law was adopted and from 2019-2028 the retirement age will gradually increase to 60 for women and 65 for men. This greatly reduced Putin's popularity, as he came out in support of this law and called on citizens to "treat with understanding." Prior to that, he had said for many years that he would never raise the retirement age. The life of pensioners in Russia is hard. It's hard to talk about exact numbers. Your pension depends on many factors. It depends on the region, length of service, place of work and other things. The minimum pension is only 10k rubles, but I would be guided by the average figure - 15,000 ($250). Of course, this is the current situation. We are talking about people over 55-60 years old. They started working during the Soviet Union and they did not have private pension funds, and all their savings were stolen or depreciated. How do they survive on that kind of money? Not easy. Retirees have various benefits. They pay utility bills 2-3 times less. Free medicine. Not very good, but covers the minimum requirements. Medicines are provided free of charge. There are benefits for public transport, taxes and others. Many continue to work. Society in Russia has a slightly different structure than in the United States. Family ties are stronger and do not break off after children enter college. Parents support children for a very long time, and then children help their parents. Not always, but often. It can be some kind of household help if they live nearby. Children can make repairs, buy groceries, household appliances, and work in the garden. And parents can share their harvest or sit with their children. By the way, in Russia, older people are actively involved in raising their grandchildren, so the institution of babysitters is poorly developed.

Average Russians working a coffee shop, restaurant in saint petersburg makes 26,000 to 30,000 ruble a month which won't get you an apartment. So those prices based on income is 8 to 10 times higher than here. Off brand american soda for 2-3 litters in us equal to russian brands is 1.00 in america. 80 -99 rubles so much more expensive there. Coca cola 2 litter is up to 1.99-2.39 in gas stations a bottle, but i get it at costco for 1.39 per 2 litter for real coke. Meaning fake coke is 3.4 times mroe expensive there. Our house payment is $2351 a month, utilities about $500 and my food budget is $750 per month which is what our government considers thrifty and what a family of 3 would get on Food Stamps (government benefit for lower income people). Some of the prices I have paid this month for produce are: $.99 for two lemons, $1.98 for one red bell pepper, $.79 for one pound of bananas, $5 for one small container of cherry tomatoes. Produce in season is a little better but inflation has really increased food costs. I love to look at the products in Russian grocery stores because they are packaged so differently than the US.

Despite US and EU sanctions, life in Russia looks like it is carrying on, as usual, looks like prices for food in Russia look stable and some are quite cheap, as least compared to Europe and the UK where I live, in the UK the prices for food and other things has gone crazy, I blame our incompetent British government, I think the West is shooting itself in the foot again by decoupling from Russia, it will mean Russia is pivoting to Asia and integrating itself with Asia, which will mean the Western sanctions on Russia will be blunted, ineffective and totally backfire on the West in terms of higher living and energy cost, while Asia will continue to boom economically and Asia will benefit from cheap Russian oil and gas, and the West will continue to suffer and decline in global power and influence, The West will regret this by sanctioning Russia and see Russia as the enemy because this misguided Western policy the real winner will be China and Asia, the East will triumph over the West.

Personally I don`t think the primary goal of sanctions is to damage the availability of products in Supermarkets for the Russian Consumer. That is merely an outcome of the sanctions. The main goal of sanctions is to damage Putins ability to attack his neighbours again and again. In that respect they are sure to work, eventually and at some cost to the populations of the west. All major Russian Industries are currently reeling from Sanctions and even the military is turning to soviet era stocks of weapons and ammunition. Russia will eventually run out of its war chest (which was considerable) and its stocks of Chips and components. The Car industry in Russia is finished. The Airline Industry in Russia will decline every month. The Tech industry has imploded. Oil and Gas (by far Russia`s most important industries) is seeing its ability to profit fall off a cliff. @gunaborman1699 #1 if you think russia influenced the US elections and not comunist democrats working with thousands of news media sources and social networking sites you sir are a chump. You obviously don't understand how reliant countries have become on each other. Just like 99% of recessions in the last 20-30 years, China will have economic problems first, and then the rest of the world's economies will fall like dominoes. No country is isolated from the effects. As far as sanctions, I agree most sanctions aren't very effective. My original point was they have been cut off from sourcing advanced microchips necessary for manufacturing military components. Meaning no advanced guidance systems, no advanced avionics, no s4 s5, no su57, etc. Their only option is to reuse repurpose or scavange. Basically it sends them back to the 80s/90s technologically. People think a country can just start manufacturing these things on their own. The ultra pure silica for manufacturing sub 10 NM chips comes from the US. Kind of like with people looking at China as advanced manufacturing when they couldn't even manufacture the tip of a ball point pen until 2017. Certain sanctions will have much larger effects than others. With advanced microchips if you want them you buy them from 1 of 2 companies that are capable of making them. The US controls both of them.
