this definitely deserves the title "hack". I've never thought of welding a nut and using an impact driver to drive it into the ground. This video is also a perfect advertisement to show how powerful impact drivers are!

that impact driver is a joke. Nothing behind it 110 V at best 1 hp A Proper DC geared Drive motor would kick its ass.

VERY interesting. What I like is that is the type of soil/gravel I have in my yard. All the other videos using a gas powered auger show them being used in nice sandy or loose soil. I need to penetrate that hard-packed gravel soil in my driveway. Thanks a bunch, you've given me hope that I can do this without spending $ 300 for a power auger. Now I need to figure out how to turn the anchor with a power drill or impact hammer. I don't weld - yet.

Great idea to use an air impact! Might want earplugs. I did something similar with a one-man gas powered post hole driller. Bit of rectangular tubing makes a socket for the end of the anchor.

My opinion, which everyone has one, I,myself might add a 2x4 2-3 ft. up each support with a longer ring bolt thru both, my opinion, looks like this should hold.👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸

Is that compacted gravel or just soil? (I'm planning on having 4 inches of compacted gravel; I'm wondering if your trick would make it through that.)

It’s gravel. But should work in any material. I now use a bigger impact. Goes much faster
