Bonjour Sara and Steve, I absolutely love the wallpaper, the design and the colors. The free wallpaper is really pretty, you got lucky with what they decided to give you. What a unique style for the sink, with the copper pot. The back terrace is going to be perfect for the summer, dinners, or just cocktails, or just sitting and collecting your thoughts after a long day. I love your forest, beautiful job Steve on the brambles. Love from N.Y.

Beautiful wallpaper in the bathroom. Molly seemed like a great help! I thought you said the wallpaper was from Vivienne from Chateau Love. What a gorgeous gift. Having the forest specialist come to the Chateau, to give you good ideas. I don't know how far away Nick is from you, but seeing what he has accomplished at Lalande and Dan's Chateau, might be a big idea! Trusting him implicitly, from the work I've seen him do at both places, seems like a good idea for advice. Fantastic vlog!

You have to get every black berry root out or it will regrow. Watch the soil closely afterward, when new sprouts appear you have to dig it out or use your new tool to cut them off. I dont know if there is any way to kill the roots. It spreads underground from the roots. You might want to train a few future vines onto a line of fencing to have berries and mow the rest. They do best in full sun. It may not produce berries til second year of new vines. Birds love the berries too.

Ivy on a crumbling wall is fine, when you’re going for atmospheric. If a bit of the wall crumbles further, as long as what it falls on isn’t a big loss, no problem. 🙂 If you haven’t dealt with brambles before, next you’ll have the “fun” of digging out the root system. They grow like subterranean ivy. So dig from the center of the patch outwards (I know, counterintuitive), to get as many of the branching roots as possible. You’ll still have missed bits pop up for a few years, but dig them out (remembering their tendency), as soon as you spot them, so they don’t get a chance to zip off further, happy to have all of that extra space and sun. I’m assuming that the tennis court is somewhere down below. It could have been a clay court. But grass and brambles don’t need deep soil, so a decade of rotting leaves could have covered just about anything. Good luck! And I look forward to seeing what you discover, without having to personally dig out a space that large. Maybe the soil can just be left on top, if it drains well enough - a no-dig solution (except for the bramble roots). Or depending on what it is, perhaps it can form the base of whatever you end up choosing for the area - a less-dig solution. 🙂 What a great idea to call in the local council person to check on permissions and advice! Starting on making the woods more resilient as time and $ allow is always a good route. A Quarry!!! Heh, I want to pull out some of the undergrowth and expose a bit! What an intriguing photo op site, artistic subject, etc. If I were you, I’d uncover enough so it still looks abandoned, but you can see it exists. If parts look like a crumbling castle, so much the better. And no big maintenance required - occasionally trim back what’s not wanted, and pop in a few woodsy re-seeding annuals or perennials, blooming at different times during the year, to catch the eye and provide several different views in a single space. 🙂 Great copper sink find! The bathroom definitely looks much better - less clinical, more elegant. The framed art is perfect! (If the shower doesn’t have great ventilation, check online for tips on keeping the moisture out of the frames so the ladies aren’t water-damaged.) How perfect that you received free wallpaper for this temporary improvement. 👍♥️ On tenterhooks for next week! (Love that weaving term.)

Very interesting seeing that forest, and learning about the quarry. Have you noticed any interesting wildflowers pop up there during Spring? I'd be tempted to try adding some of the beautiful ones I've seen in various parts of France that grow during the winter, such as cyclamens, wood anemones, snowdrops, etc. They take advantage of the light in winter from the deciduous trees. But, I haven't studied what's native in your particular part of France. Maybe one of the bluebell species would do well? I also liked seeing the chateau from the different vantage points. I wonder if a decorative bracket/brace would dress up that shelf in the bathroom, and possibly all painted. The main thing (to me) is that shelf looks so modern.
